Also, the bloke around here who runs AS motorcycles runs a series 3 land rover with transit Di engine fitted, that also ran like a dog on supermarket fuel.
If a nail like a Di won’t run on that crap, what chance does a modern high performance engine have?

Geoff, until I experienced it I wouldn’t believe it either.
    Same with diesel, i
I got an all singing all dancing 16 valve rhr Hdi 6speed car for the mrs, and couldn’t work out why the turbo went west… Found the dpf blocked to hell so I’ve banned her from Tesco diesel.. Cars at 250000 or so now with no breakdowns since

I think that would rule out bad juice then..
Looks like the tanks coming off and a good look for perished hoses or chafed wires is next on the list, do you have a temporary test fuel tank?

Try not using supermarket juice. Try Texaco or Tom Ashton for superunleaded cured mine. If I left supermarket unleaded in mine for more than 4 week without a top up, the fuel went bad

Ground face uppermost with case hardening to the valve tip 😉 It “floats” on the layer of oil under the face of the bucket. I did a mates DW8 around 3 year ago in Feb, tolerances are all still spot on

Agreed, THM, my sense of self preservation would kick in well before putting myself in that kind of danger, but id be on the extreme of not riding in the City center.
But, some folk choose to cycle commute in the City for whatever personal and practical reason.
And these people deserve protection from larger vehicles, both via infrastructure and legislation

Where the bus ain’t indicating to go left, and it’s route is probably well known?
Sorry if it’s not that you’re alluding too, but I’m on a phone screen while entertaining a 3 year old, so normal STW level of activity here

In a berlingo B9 van, they go in fine, fully built up, in a B9 estate, I couldn’t say but in the earlier shape M59 one of the split back seats went up to store 1 29er wheels on, or 2 29rs with front wheels off

And I’d be cheering on Cycling UK just as loudly if Caroline Lucas had done the dooring, but I kinda doubt she’d have just **** hoffski with nowt but the shake of a hand…

Thm you talk total tosh at times, what Cycling UK have here is a high profile case that is well enough positioned to help change attitudes and even legislature.
Let’s face it, the problem here is a combination of attitudes and road infrastructure

I aint arguing, fella, it’s just always been my opinion that when I climb behind the wheel, i’m in control of a machine that has the potential to harm or even kill another person, and no matter how it happens if it does, I’ll not have set out that morning with those express intentions. That even extends to getting out at the end of the journey. And also in the back of my mind is that one day, I WILL slip up…

Driving a vehicle is a serious business and attitudes must change to start treating it as such.
The driver is in charge, and that means he is also responsible for his passengers too

It’s about time driving lessons hammered home the point that a car is a 1700kg killing machine that the driver is responsible for, and the only time most people will be in trouble with the law is when in control of one of these death machines

And nice victim blaming, Hora, it’s up to first the driver& secondly the passengers to make certain its safe to egress a vehicle. It stands if that was a pedestrian or a cyclist.

British Cycling are pushing for the prosecution, you know, to try and send out a message that aims to protect all of us.

    8.4v I seem to recall
Split the packs down in to “2 series” by whatever parallel you can, for capacity?
12 odd volts of your packs at present sound like 3 cells in series

Mine cost me about £4 for solder, a Jst balance cable, and a few wraps of self amalgamating tape, batteries were salvaged from a Dewalt 18v battery pack, tested batteries and the closest matched to make in to a 2s2p pack.
Alternatively there is a UK shipping eBay seller does them for about £12 but don’t have all the safety bells and whistles like my homebuild

Why not buy a new battery for the solarstorm or do as I and many others have and build your own waterproof balance charged battery packs?

The cafe staff cocking off down the jobcentre comments bring up some intriguing thoughts.

The jobcentre isn’t what it used to be, it’s not where you go to find work anymore, but where you face punishment for being out of work. They are forcing folk under threat of destitution to take any job, suitable for the individuals or not.
Another thought, what is the payscale for these workers? If it’s minimum wage combined with the jobcentre / benefits agency attitude, it could be a reason for the long faces. (I’ve a bit of experience with this, the mrs was a head cheese at Poundworld until dealing with what the jobcentre constantly sent over even when there were no vacancies on top of other corporate bulldust nearly sent her doolally.I encouraged her to quit and take a paycut, best move ever, we’re skint but happy )

I aint done Gisburn since October just before the clocks went back, but I always dialled in a full day midweek, a quick loop of the lower of the 8 up to either hope or bottoms, bringing me to the cafe at around 11am to lunch time, and it’s always been open, another loop and drop in for a coffee before heading back to the van.
I couldn’t say about weekends as I never ride, but I’m sure it’s open as the dig team trail fairies speak of free brews from there

I can’t be bothered to cite examples of his failings but suffice to say he delivered a shockingly bad session and should be embarrassed of his £145 price tag.

No, please do be arsed, I doubt I would ever book a coaching session so far south of me, but I do like to know who’s out there and if they are worth the travel or not

I sling the bike and gear in the back of the van, and if I get a quiet period, I shut the doors at work, and hoof off somewhere without going home first. I know once I’m home the self imposed emotional blackmailing would kick in and I wouldn’t want to leave!

Has anyone thought to let Rowan Sorrel about this thread?
My take, there’s plenty enough freemans Sorrel/ back on track designed trails dotted around the countryside if the locals at BPW make spending your money there distasteful.
And as for coaching, ain’t there some mind controlling riding god not a million miles away just over the border, who also built his own trail?
I know if I was nearer, Jedi would be the boy lightening my wallet
