@argee no that’s what the insurance offered as a payout. Just the corrugated roof sheets were damaged. Out of 16 sheets, 3 were undamaged. Thing is the matereals needed for the job are fairly cheap. It’s labour that costs. Most expensive quote is £3500 but even I think thats a lot for what the job is. Matereals are £500 at the most.

I think I could do it myself if I had to but it would take me a week and probably look like shit but for someone who knows what they are doing it’s about a days work.

@spooky_b329 it the profile of fibre cement roofing sheets. Euro 5 is 5 inch profile and well 6 is 6 inch :-). I have spoken to a few suppliers and Euro 5 has been discontinued. They do have some stock but not in the length I need.

    @nixie
The insurance has come back and said to get quotes for the work but I feel I’m now doing their job. Should probably bill them for time that I have had to spend waitng in for quotes. Wonder how that would go down?

They have paid for a test to see if it’s asbestos though. Luckily not but Fibre cement does look like asbestos.

What I may do is say I’ll pay their supplier for materials up front and have it delivered to me then they can just come in an fit

He has come around and measured up. I said the insurance company were going to pay but only about £800. He seemed to know his stuff but is quite a bit below what a much bigger company has quoted. I guess that being only a 2 man unit helps to cut costs though.

    @nixie
The insurance company have been less than helpful. I’ve been argueing that 80% damage warrants a replacement. That even if they only did the 80% I would be happy to pay for the 20. Won’t have it. Have been a bit more willing to compromise since I asked for the recordings of the call as the customer service call was pretty below standard. I had to end it politely before I started swearing back.

Unfortunately it does say in the T&C that the can defer to a payout, but I am still fighting that. The problem is that the roof is Euro 5 which is now unavailable and only Euro 6 is so they can say that they cannot replace like for like.

It’s been a hassle just getting people to quote. They have come around and then nothing. Problem is the have about 38 references on the site but who knows how true they are. Quite a few didn’t give any reference but the all seem the same.

Not a huge amount but it is in the Thousands which I can’t afford to lose. When he came around he seemed very genuine but then all the best cons do. This was the reason I really wanted the insurance company to sort it. Can’t find any references online and it’s a fairly new company at Company House

This may be a stupid question and has been asked before but how or why does the standing charge go up as well? Surely just the price of the units you are using should be going up Not the standing charge as well?

I had a 2.0 2007 Expert. Bought it in 2010 for 8K. Bought with 27000 miles on it written off with 71000. Only had the 2 seats up front and half a bulkhead. A year ago WBAC valued it at £4.5, now valued at £2850.

Busy trying to replace it at the moment as I wrote it off in a head on. It was in really good condition. Insurance companies first offer was £800. Busy trying to negotiate a better offer.

Had a few very minor issues with a Pollution control light coming on but it would go out after a few restarts and only come on again if you were idling for a long time. Never got to the bottom of it. Never smoked or gave out any clue at MOT time. Only real problem was it needed a new power steering pump. Had 2 because the replacement failed again but luckily was in warranty. Just under £500 for part and labour. No rust. Oil and filter changes done every yeay by me. Really easy to work on.

Wish I still had it :-(

Got 3 dirt bikes in easily. My MTB I just wheel into the back and sweep the dirt out every now and again. I would thoroughly recommend them.

I used to be fit and healthy but now, well, less said the better.

    This happened DURING my lifetime!!!

Well you did do most of the damage yourself

No, most of it was done by the planet hitting me, hard.

    I know the feeling :-)

If it’s the same engine as the Expert there is a fuel primer bulb. Mine had a split in it and was sucking air giving the same symptoms. I patched it with a puncture patch with the intention of replacing it but the patch worked so well that I have left it.

I can see the clear fuel line and it had loads of bubbles in it. I didn’t realise at first that the air bubbles were not normal and spent a lot of time trying to fix it.

You could not see the split in the bulb as it was at the back but they disconnect easily. Not had the issue since

I have a grandson who has been diagnosed with ADHT. And also something else I don’t quite remember but basically is, if someone tells/asks him to do something he will do the opposite. He can be really really loving on one hand and totally destructive on the other. Often trying to hurt you and actually watching you closely to see the reaction.

I need some help/instruction with dealing with him as I simply don’t have the tools. i am old fashioned and really thought he was just a naughty boy. Not a bad boy. I have come to realise that he needs help and so do I to help him.

I often think we forget about the other people who come into contact with kids like this who have no experience and often no idea on how to help. I nearly always go away from interactions with him thinking I could have done that better.

Not sure I have explained it very well though

Maybe there is some kind of pandemic in the world at the moment meaning large numbers of staff being off sick at short notice? 🤷

Covid is over (according to our Government) but the shortage of staff who were laid off during Covid continues so may be a good idea to cut back on flights

Ha, I live on the route and you should see the dismay on the local Facebook page. You would swear it was the end of the world.

The only good thing they can see about it is at least some of the potholes will be repaired. :-)

Thanks Coconut. Going to try again. Not really made good progress on the other attempts but it has made me keep an eye on my weight which hasn’t gone up to as much as it was pre-Covid. So that’s a good thing

Orbea Rise h15. Good components for about £5400. Waiting for mine. It’s the alloy frame. Don’t trust myself with carbon as I have too many offs and as it’s an eBike I don’t think the little bit of extra weight matters.

My cousin lived there and moved because of constant harressment from a well known character that lived there. So it can happen anywhere.

I can try ask him what it was but he is not very good at replying to emails.

With prices set to shoot up again in April is there any chance of significant reductions later in the year? Don’t know if I should fix on one of the eye watering tariffs to avoid even more pant wetting bills further down the line?

May be worth getting a fix tarif with someone like octopus which doesn’t have a fee for terminating early. then if they come down you can change it.

Like previous comments above. They really split opinion. Especially amongst people who know someone who has them. I have a set of trailwides in version 1 29 flavour. As above I dinged them casing a jump onto the edge which was lined with a log. Probably would have dinged any other rim. Very small ding that I have to look for. I know a few people who have them and they all seem happy. I guess if you are going to be smashing through Rock Gardens at full speed then you will need a tougher rim but that goes for a lot of wheels out there.

Ridden a few Bike Parks and lots of rocky runs like Ard Rock and still running fine two years later. You get what you pay for. So far I have been happy with them. Would I buy them again, yes, no question and I believe V2 is slightly tougher.

I am biased as an owner but I do think they are a good balance of price, lightness and reliability.

I bought the Halfords Advanced 1600 I think. I also think you get a lifetime warranty the same as their tools,  as it’s the Advanced kit.
