    Get yourself some Ether

I’ve been looking into this as a long term investment/gamble and quite fancy chucking a couple of hundred quid in initially just to see what happens. What’s the best way of doing it? via Coinbase? and what’s the crack with withdrawing any profit back into your bank account as regular GBP?

Me and a few mates recently completed a loop starting from Cow Green Reservoir following the Penine Way to High Cup Nick then down into Dufton then back to Cow Green. Was a good ride despite the gale force wind, about 23 mile and 3000ft climbing. The descent from High Cup to Dufton was great fun :)

I’ve got an Esse 125, large fire box with a big viewing window that never soots up with it’s airwash system unless you try to run it too low. Great stove, chucks out some heat too :)

I used Shiply to transport 50kg of Scuba diving gear from Sunderland to the highlands. Cost me £125, all I did was put the details into Shiply and let the quotes come in and passed the costs onto the buyer.

I’ve missed an interview at work today for an internal position as I didn’t see the invite email……. think I’ve blown my chances although it’s been rearranged for tomorrow!!

Patrol, the long travel bike that feels like a short travel bike, not sure that’s a good thing! but it does “pop”. It is a bit of a pig on the climbs mind. And yes, I have one too, and often question if it was the right decision.

I don’t think they climb that badly, my Patrol climbs way way better than my El Guapo ever did :)

But the OP is definitely describing a Patrol.

Come and race the Scottish Enduro Series. If that doesn’t get you good at riding in steep mud, then nothing will

Lol, I’m sure it will….. golfy is on the cards in the next couple of months but to be fair to Northumberland it is wet the majority of the time

i love riding the steeps when its wet – its a real test and generally as its a total shitfest the landings are soft and the crashes are comedy.

That’s true enough, took a tumble OTB at Thrunton on Saturday on a tight off camber corner that probably would have hurt had it been dry….. was comedy gold.

It’s all good advice everyone and I know the theory behind it all, its just it all starts going out the window when it becomes slippy slidy twitchy bum time haha.

Thanks all, a lot of it is definitely in my head and I do need to just relax a bit when it gets all sloppy and hopefully with that will come extra speed and a bit more stability.

Go faster. A Mary’s only clogging because you’re not going fast enough to shed the mud. I run a Mary up front and it’s great in horrible Scottish mud. Ridiculous grip and never once clogged up (and I’m not even that fast, just learned to keep the wheels spinning)

I knew this was going to be the first response haha. I’m guessing just man up a bit and commit myself more and hopefully it’ll all come good

Welcome to the Patrol club…… nice looking bike :)

My eldest clicked with his when he was about 3 after showing next to no interest beforehand. The problem I have now is (he’s 4) that he won’t give up the balance bike for a bike with pedals.

Just to add, I also got a valet and gift bag with Audi merchandise in it.

I have a Hunter slimline 5 arriving tomorrow, then to book the fitting.

Nice one, fingers crossed you get it fitted sooner rather than later :)

I’m 5’8 on a medium and I wouldn’t have wanted it any bigger if I’m honest. The reach wasn’t the issue for me, my inside leg is 30″ and I have my 125mm reverb in the seat tube as far as it’ll go.

We’ve got an Esse 125, it’s pretty wide and you can get some hefty logs in there. It throws out a fair bit of heat and if we leave the doors of the living room open can comfortably heat the majority of the house.

Hot Stepper is just brilliant. Vicious Valley into A470 is also good fun :)

That looks brilliant Bluearsedfly and I’m pleased you’re happy with it. You’re right in what you say about it being special. I’ve only rode mine a few times as of yet and I’m very very impressed with it. I’ve also got 175mm cranks and I can’t say I have been bothered by pedal strikes, having said that I had one of the dodgy El Guapo frames before hand that had the extra low bottom brackets which has probably helped. Also heard stories about how the alloy version was noisey because of the internal cable routing but it’s honestly as quiet as a mouse :)

Slightly off topic but are any of you Patrol owners 5’6″ish? What size frame are you riding? I am thinking of getting a 2016 medium frame that’s on sale but as ever I am on the cusp of sizes & there’s nowhere near to throw a leg over one to try out.

If it’s any use I’m 5’8 with a 30″ inside leg. I’m on a medium frame with a 380mm 125mm drop reverb…… the reverb is inserted as far as it will go and it feels bang on size wise. I think I may have struggled on a medium if my inside leg measurement was any shorter.

lol, cheers lads. Yeah leaves need clearing up and the decking could do with staining but I’m happy with it :)

Thanks it’s turned out much better than I expected if I’m honest. Slik were brilliant when it came to colour matching the frame, it’s a perfect match.

Some interesting reading in this thread. Just built up a 2017 Patrol and I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out. First ride this weekend :)

I don’t know about love but I want to take the new Production Privee Shan GT somewhere out of the way and have some rough and dirty fun. Maybe lust would evolve into love?

That’s just what I was going to suggest, lovely looking bike.

For what it’s worth, I have a Chameleon and it is the one bike I will never ever sell.

Do you own the land the footpath crosses? If so, you can apply to the Council for a temporary closure to carry out works. I’ve found the following on the web:

No unfortunately, just the land either side.

But, just thinking, do you actually mean a ‘public footpath’ (eg, a right of way) or is it a ‘footway’ (what people usually call the pavement) on a public highway? That would be different, I think.

It’s just the pavement that runs round our street but cuts through to an open area at the side of our house. Should probably just give the council a call and see what they say.

I’m in the exact same situation, just moved into a new house a few months back and it has a detached garage. I would like to run a cable but there’s a public footpath between the house and the garage. I’d like enough power to run power tools/pressure washers etc so solar isn’t an option but can’t see the council being too happy if I dig up the footpath to run a cable.

I’m guessing a generator is my best bet?

I’ve pre-ordered an alloy Patrol frame in the neon teal colour. Should be here sometime in august apparently :)

The carbon scout looks great though!

Thanks, think I’ll order 4 and see what they’re like. Can always try them out before fitting and send them back if they are no good.

I’m also after some storage ideas. cjr61, do you reckon I’ll get some downhill spec 2.5 Magic Mary’s in those hangers?

Currently dealing with mice myself. I first spotted one about a month back while watching tv one night as it boldly ran over the living room floor. So I bought loads (20+) snap traps. Placed them under the kitchen cupboards and at 90 degree angles to the skirting in various rooms. I think I wiped out the initial population fairly quickly and caught 6 or 7 within a couple of days. I have since caught about 3 more but much less frequently, I do think these may just be visitors and not resident. The house is an old terrace and I can’t see anywhere they could be getting in on the outside of our property which makes me think they may be coming in from next door which is a harder problem to solve. Doesn’t help matters that the loft space is shared by the neighbours on either side. On the plus side I’ve not seen any more mice or there droppings so I’m hoping I have the problem under control :)

There was a guy on ebay doing everything you need to refresh your El Guapo the last time I looked.

Cheers lads, will try shortening the chain tomorrow to see what effect it has.

Old free hub was fine, I’m using a medium cage mech, chain is the right way round and the whole set up has about 50 miles on it at best. So it’s definitely something in the setup.

All the parts including the chain are new, the indexing and chain length were then set up by the lbs when I was having issues initially. Seemed to work fine for a bit then it started to slip in the mid to higher range of the cassette that’s why I suspected the free hub. If I can’t sort it tomorrow it will be going in to be looked at ;)
