I’d like to take this on as well but being 48 going on 12 and gave up smoking two years ago I’m worried about the time between timed sections. Is there like an average speed you need to go between the timed stages ie. 10mph.

will a short & medium cage both do the same job regardless of cassette size?

Thanks for the replies STEers..I was basically thinking of a shorter cage so that its tucked out of the way a bit more. I don’t or haven’t really suffered from chain slap etc up till now but I plan to do more aggressive riding ie. Snowdon this year as well as a couple of trails in Wales & the lakes etc. Didn’t really want to encounter a problem when its too late to do anything about it like when I’m halfway down a mountain. Fit and forget piece of mind has to be worth its weight in gold or not?

Suggestions? Stick with what I got + a chain-device possibly?

    Wet rocks, roots etc.?

Worth the £30/ pair or are they just OK for a £15 tyre?

My CB Joplin has nominal side to side movement. Doesn’t bother me at all.

andyl.. it was the tmars I’d seen @ 200mm max height..didn’t subtract the 90mm it drops down to…making 110mm.

JoeG..its a pain in the arse ( ?? ) that it really limits frame choice. I’m after a steel hardtail to take 150mm forks with short or adjustable chainstays, low bb..Stanton to expensive ( for me ) so will Probs go for a NS Surge. Looked at Dialled etc. One of the manufacturers even quoted updated geometry but stl had a 27.2 seat-tube.

Seems like its a toss up between the Top peak Mountain morph & The Alloy drive from Lezyne.

Thanks peeps..looks like the price will decide between the two…

    Shirley’s dead?? Omg.

    tymbian

Why not? It’s the cafe belonging to Shirley surely.

Shirley’s would be short for Shirley is ie. Shirley’s going to the pub.

Unless you’re a professor of English ..in that case I’ll admit defeat. ( the apostrophe in you’re and I’ll replace omitted letters )

The Answer bars are nice so are the Renthal. I’ve had both. No noticeable difference in stiffness. Sold the Renthal to buy the Answer..up to you. I like, and will always buy & support, British but wont tolerate OTT prices for a Britsh product. Get the Answer as they’re a bargain and buy some nice pads..sorted.

Get a small pry-bar ( 20 cms long approx ) and hammer the smaller clawed end under the nail-head and lift enough so as to get out with claw-hammer if the bar won’t do it.

Sorry, didn’t realise that would be classed as trolling as wasn’t aimed at 9ne person in particular. Apologies.
But glad to see a darksider ( albeit a part-timer ) agreeing with me.

I agree with the tandem posts..when I took my mtb to a local cycling club for a ride out one Sunday ( not realising I’d , not only be the only non lycra clad person there but the only one without dropped bars )i thought I’d be ok keeping up with the group as there was an old couple there on a tandem. How fast were they?!! Wtf.
Had to laugh..I didn’t stand a hope in hell.

Did someone say roadies are friendly…?
Imo 90% are arrogant tossers. Only 1 in 10 will nod or acknowledge me when I’m on my mtb. Is it cause I’m wearing baggies or that our pastimes are so vastly different. B**tards ride 3 or 4 abreast , and when eventually they begrudgingly move to single file you can’t overtake incase there’s a pothole that they must, without warning, swerve around because their fragile wheels/ lycra clad bodies won’t take the ‘thump’.

    For an idea of scale the posts are 9″ x 9″ ( 225 x 225 ) at 18′ ( 5.48m ) centers.

Also the 2m height rule only applies to structures ie. Walls, fences, greenhouses, sheds etc. There is no ruling as to how high plants/ shrubs / trees etc. are allowed to be.

I’m to understand that a party wall has shared ownership. The wall you’re talking about is your neighbours therefore you should ask them. Also there is no law stating that you should give your neighbor the ‘ good side ‘ its just courteous. I erected a fence between feuding neighbors and the paying client insisted I give the shit side to the neighbor.

I’d love a Stanton too but can almost buy 2 Surges for the same. That’s what I mean by ‘ paying a premium ‘.. is the Reynolds tubing 100% better ( twice as good, stronger, flexier etc )?

Sorry to re open this thread but I’m after said Slackline frame for these reasons…
    – I really liking the Long travel hardtail thing..
    – prefer the give/ flex of steel
    – Like the Blue Pig x but the adjustable Drop-outs of the Sovereign ( hence the stanton for it’s short rear )

doesn’t seem to be many options out there that fit the bill. I like the Sovereign but it’s easier to buy hens teeth. Like the Pig x but worried about the long rear not being as flickable/ manual..able

Thanks but I’m goin to keep it real with some steel. The C456 didn’t get good reviews on Bikeradar.. I also should of put in the title ‘ Frame only ‘… Where the **** is the Edit button?

I want to do Snowdon this year as well. I thought it was up ranger down Llanberis but I’m still doing my homework on this one. How many routes off Snowdon are there? As a side Q..is it possible to cycle from Snowdon to Antur Stiniog?

That pebble is along the right lines. It would need ruggedizing/ Mountainbike proofing though. Oh , I must have forgot to put that a man must be able to wear it.

The sov will be slack with a 150 fork.

They both get rave reviews about how they handle the trails. Is it that the pig x is more downhill orientated?

[quote Why are you interested in these two specifically? They’re fairly different.

I thought they were fairly the same. ie long travel Hardtail. I’ve bopiled it down to these on reviews alone.. nobody hass a bad word to say about either…

Why have you kept the Sov over of all the frames you mentioned?

I love it…really great frame and very well made. I personally found the soul to noodley, i could really feel the rear end twisting around…bfe and alptitude were both lovely and very similar to the sov and the blue pig was also great but felt very different to ride. In fact the blue pig is the only frame ive ridden that felt totally different to any other frame ive had from the first ride. I loved it

How does it ( the Sov ) compare to the other frames you’ve mentioned.. ( they are all on my shortlist ) is the Sov a harsher ride than the Pig?

Suck it and see is Probs the best way to do it but I unfortunately don’t have bucket loads of cash to spare being a father of 5. I currently ride a Savage Raptor jump frame which I picked up new for £30 from my lbs. This was to tie me over until I could decide on a final build. I ran it with Manitou circus Expert 100mm forks which were soon changed to some coiled Zocchi 55s wound down to approx 145mm. Coming from a full bounce I’m after a bit of squish hence looking for a steel frame. To be honest an XL sized Faction ( I’m 5’10 ) with short stem should be ok on the ups due to cockpit room.
