64 yo – mid 50s for RHR but my max HR is 203 – has always been above 200, at least for last past 30yrs since started using a HRM. Would say I was fit for my age, exercise 6 days a week on bike or turbo.

So painful for you to have to have this happen on top of all the other crap you’ve had to deal with. Please look after yourself and try to stay strong for the other kids. Thoughts are with you at this truly awful time.

What WP theme is your site based on? If it’s a commercial one rather than homegrown you should’ve able to access the developers forum and find another company that can add the functionality you want. For example, I use a version of this one albeit without e-commerce enabledEnvision Shop Theme And I know that I could find somebody to add WooCommerce to it for a small amount of money or use the supplied documentation to DIY.

As others have recommended go to your insurance company and file a claim. I delayed until 3 weeks after my accident until I realised the other parties insurance wasn’t offering a fair settlement.

Especially with Covid it will avoid any hassle sorting out repairs. As Rich-s says you will be asked to sign a full and final settle,DMT letter which means you have no come back. Whilst you may think it’s cosmetic it may not be or getting it fixed may require more parts than you think.

Not going to be easy to figure out as the way monitoring tools like Solarwinds work is to install an agent on every piece of h/w with some form of operating system – pc, laptop, server, firewall, router….. so they get to see everything on the devices and even the network traffic. Typically if it’s encrypted traffic thru the network they will still get to see it unencrypted because an agent sits on the endpoint the traffic is being routed to/from. Also the agent is normally excluded from any virus checking as it’s loaded as one of the first things when a device gets started up. So an agent can then execute whatever programs it wants on a device include sending any stuff out from a device to another remote destination, I.e. the hackers.

Why are you claiming on their policy? Claim on your own and they will eventually claim from the other insurer whatever the costs are to sort it out, also won’t affect your ncd. I recently went thru trying to claim off the other party’s insurer and they tried the beyond economic repair ploy. Went to my insurance and they got their authorised garage to contact me. Sent a couple of photos and they said repairable. Garage then came to collect car and insurers provided me with a hire car which was also delivered to me. I would guess the repair and car hire for a week came out at 50% more than the other party offered.

Like some suspect I’ve been a bit blasé over the years. The belted Galloways on NT land in the Surrey Hills are docile and well used to human traffic but definitely curious

Thank goodness I’m not the only one with a higher MHR than the 220-age formula. Regularly get to 195 on Zwift and I’m 64. One thing I’m pleased about is that with Covid and WFH I’ve been on my bike and turbo a lot more. This has helped me lost quite. A bit of weight but also noticed that my resting heart rate has dropped down to 53-54 (according to my Fitbit!) So more keen to exercise regularly rather than try to hit my peak heart rate all the time.

This has been a really timely thread for me and very informative. The wife who hasn’t worked for the last 10 years has said she’d be happy for me to retire. At the moment though I’m in a job that I enjoy and it’s well paid plus WFH during Covid has made it even easier. So not quite ready to hang up my shingle. Fortunately I made a decision a long time ago to invest in Personal Pensions, funnily enough driven by the fact that at the bank I started working for a lot of the time served guys were counting the days until they could retire but worried about how much money they had invested as the pension wasn’t quite enough for their planned lifestyle.

What brought things home for me was when my father passed away 3 years ago, he was financially well off and had planned to do loads of travelling when he retired but ill health in the form of vascular dementia got in the way. As my grandmother also suffered from this I’m concerned that it might also get me in the end and it’s not a nice thought. So in some ways he left it too late to enjoy retirement and I don’t want to do the same.

Like a lot of others on here I know I won’t get bored, I’ll find something to do. So the plan now is to take things 6 months at a time and decide when I should pack it in. It’s feels a bit like planning for an extended holiday as me and the wife are looking at doing some long distance travelling for the first year, but Covid has stopped that. One thing I will definitely do is spend more time skiing and go to the alps for the full season rather than just a week. So I’ll be back on here asking for recommendations about where to stay in the French alps for a 3 month stint. Also would like to spend the Summer cycling so sounds like I’m talking myself into moving there for a year :).

Interestingly not many on here seem to be looking at downsizing or moving to another part of the country/abroad. That’s something I’m toying with but not yet decided on, don’t need the money particularly but a 4 bed house with a very large garden will get too much for us in 10 years. So can’t work out whether to move when I retire or put it off. The latter seems like a lost opportunity. For me this is likely to be one of the tougher decisions to make.

One thing I don’t intend doing is taking up golf which a few of my mates have done – seems to be a way of whiling away the time rather than something that I would find a challenge and therefore enjoy. So I’m glad I bought myself an eBike this year as this has meant I can go for longer rides and also tackle stuff that even when I was 30 I couldn’t get up. So looking at getting a campervan and bumming around for a while visiting places I always wanted to go to and having some extended cycling trips.

Robbo – Thanks for organising the event. Really enjoyed it and that’s the most Watts I’ve put out on Zwift, was definitely at my limit.

Broke mine more years ago than I care to remember. Had a plate in in but as the break was towards the outside which has a poor blood supply it’s not healed. So mine’s a permanent break, non-union heal – not in any pain or discomfort and no loss of strength.

Had an Orbi for 18 months and it packed up this past week, while it was working it was great. So after going though a load of reviews and rather than fork out another £300 went with a TP Link Deco M9 plus and it seems to be as good and about £100 cheaper.

Got the e-150 and started riding it over the past two weeks. Fantastic bike, handles really well. Upgraded from a Whyte t-130 so was already a fan of the brand. Only changes from stock version were:
Hillbilly tyres and LBS changed the setup to tubeless.
    Bars shortened by 20mm

Just hoping that I don’t have a problem with the gear cable that is routed below the motor which seems to have been an issue for some other riders.

Still getting used to using it as it sometimes feels like I’m cheating – love the fact that I can now go up slopes that I found (and my mates to be fair) impossible before. Haven’t had to use the Turbo mode yet.

Similar to Dowsett, worth looking at Zwift Insider and Kevin Bouchard and Ted King do an A Cat race. Interesting take on the tactics they use, especially on use of drafting and being at the front at the start of the race.

Broke mine more than 15 years ago – I think the medical term for it is non-union heal. Had it plated but didn’t help, so after 3 months the plate came out. Not had any pain or felt restricted movement. My consultant said that the blood supply to the collarbone isn’t always a good one, especially if the break occurs towards the outer side.

So I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Not sure there is a difference in the specifications for the joystick but the price is higher. For some of the other 2019 lights, like the Race MK13 and Toro MK10 the light output stays the same but the charge time is reduced by up to 55%. Again like the joystick the price seems to have jumped up by 10%-20% but maybe that’s because they’re new and not being discounted by retailers yet.

Not used them, but have recently used http://www.WatchDoctor.co.uk to service and repair my Omega. Reasonable prices and good turn around via Royal Mail. Went to their workshop to collect and was impressed – a proper business. They also do Tag.

Polly’s B&B in Hathersage is really nice. Polly has 3 bedrooms so has the space if she’s not fully booked. Does a really mean breakfast and is really used to catering for cyclists.

I put a set of open source compatible OS style maps from John Thorn at http://www.the-thorns.org.uk/mapping/ on my Garmin edge. Really nice to use and better than what was installed. I think it was around £20 with free updates  for a short period, cover the whole of the UK. Contact him via the email link on the web page to tell him what you want.

I broke mine quite a few years ago. Had a plate put in and removed after 3 months as it was meant to temporary to help stabilise the bone to allow it to grow together.  Didn’t work, apparently the further towards the arm lessens the chance of it being successful as the blood supply is poorer.

So mines still broken, called a non-union heal. Doesn’t give me any problems and can’t say I’ve noticed any restricted movement or loss of strength.

Just got an Atera Strada Sport and really impressed. Came with both 7 & 11 pin connectors. Folds up and fits nicely in the boot. Plenty of room to open the boot when the bikes are loaded but does also swing down if you need more room. Very secure and solid when loaded. Only shock for me was the cost of getting a tow bar fitted – as much as the bike rack!

Married to a Mauritian and go back every 2-3 years and normally take a package holiday. Most of the 4-5* hotels are very good. Depending on what time of year you may influence which side of the island you want to go to – East and South can be breezy which is great in their Summer but not as nice August/September. Choose a hotel that has more than one restaurant as most have a buffet style main restaurant every night.

Mauritius doesn’t have a lot to see away from the beaches apart from Port Louis the capital with it’s market.

Went in November and we stayed at Lux Le Morne and highly recommend it and will certainly go back there.
Also stayed at Touessrok, Royal Palm, The Residence, Beachcomber Troux aux Biches(area very popular with wealthy Mauritians), Paradis, Paradise Cove but thought Lux Le Morne was the best.

Places to avoid staying in – Grand Baie. Tends to be noisy but has some OK shops and most of the big game fishing boats go out from here.

If feeling adventurous you could try and get a week in La Reunion which is a French dependency 30 minutes flight time from Mauritius. Has great hiking in the mountains and also some awesome bike trails – singletrack paradise.
Or want a really quiet week go to Rodrigues part of Mauritius about 30 minutes flight in a prop plane. Great snorkelling but very arid landscape. My wife says Rodrigues is like Mauritius was before the tourists invaded it.

If the chairman has dementia he may have signed a power of attorney to get somebody else to act on his behalf. I would check with either his family or the company lawyer as this may enable you to use this as a reason to contact those not not directly involved in the day to day running and get them to start becoming more active and hold the MD to account. Also if the chairman hasn’t appointed somebody to act on his behalf then as a director you should be insisting that this is done to protect the company.

Don’t know what work you do but if it’s not working from the farm I would make a rule that outside of the office no work talk. This way it enables you to get some work/life balance but probably more importantly keeps your missus on side.

If you do get to talk to the planning officer ask him/her for advice about a local architect/developer who could help you overturn the decision. I know my local planning officer was happy to recommend a couple of companies that were likley to be successful with an application based upon plans previously submitted.

As FunkyMonkey and others have advised the Dewalt ones are good and based on the old Elu design. I would avoid eBay secondhand Dewalt unless it’s had very light use as they tend to have been used and abused heavily by professional tradespeople. If you can get an old Elu then again if it’s been used lightly it would make a good choice, but they tend to be sought after and prices can be quite high.

Trend are expensive and will be out of your budget(not quite as pricey as a Festool one) but for what you want the Dewalt, Elu or as FunkyMonkey says the Triton TRA001 is ideal for router table use. The good thing about the Triton is you can adjust it from above the table rather than having to fiddle underneath the table.

    @Kilo

You are looking at the BoxHill issue from a very narrow perspective – your ride on a Sunday morning.

There are significantly more cyclists in the area over the whole of the week-end than there used to be before the Olympics. Combined with the number of sportives that now include Box Hill as part of their route this has led to a lot more issues. For example, across Surrey the number of cyclist KSIs (killed or seriously injured) has doubled in 4 years. Some of this is no doubt attributable to the council not repairing roads but quite a bit is probably down to increased number of riders. A good example of the issues is that despite having cyclepaths along the A24 dual carriageway between Dorking and Leatherhead there are still quite a lot of riders who want to cycle on the road along side cars going at 50-60mph.

JL don’t really stock much Gaggia stuff. Don’t know why, but when I asked about getting a Gaggia Baby they weren’t interested in ordering anything special in. That’s despite Philips now owning Gaggia.

Remember that unbranded ones may not offer the same protection for your eyes as some of the branded makes, e.g. Acuvue have UV blocking filters built into them. Might just be marketing bullsh*t but worth considering especially of you are going to wear the all day every day.
