Worked for last 25+ years in the voluntary sector, all small charitable orgs not the big national ones who i think provide decent pensions Early on realised that I needed to find a way to finance my retirement. Started paying into a pension scheme, paid into it for many years until the statements showed that my projected annual pension was little over 1kpa. Stopped paying and decided to put the little money we had into property. Never wanted to be a BTL landlord, just thought it would be another way of providing an income either from rental income or sale of the properties. It now looks that that plan has gone belly up too. The value of the houses have dropped considerably, so bang goes any cash I might have accumulated. In the meantime finding good tenants is becoming a nightmare. TBH at times I feel that I might as well have not bothered trying to do anything.

Life in the voluntary sector, sorry the 3rd sector, is full of the same crap we have heard from our chums in the public & private sector.

Quick wins – Do stuff quick so it looks like we are good.
Low hanging fruit – Do the easy stuff first
Heads up – Some sort of porn instruction

No mention of glue sniffers yet. Early one morning, just getting light, two glue sniffers stumbling along the path behind Lumley castle. Both out of it clutching thier glue bags.

Heres a link to an artice in the Guardian.
Its basiclly a scheme thats supposed to target yr11 school leavers. Problem is they dont want to do it, for obvious reasons.
Ten ‘pilot’ schemes to run this summer delivered by mostly tory supporting organisations. Tenders for next year have already been requested. Its a croc…….

Youve got to do the Tremalzo. Cycle from Riva del Garda to the top its then 20+ miles of amazing single track back to Riva. If you dont want to cycle up theres a LBS in Riva that does lifts to the top.

Hope he does a better show than Blondie last friday. I dont think she understood what DID’s is about. Although I did like the bit where she said ‘why would I need the Bible’ or something like that.

You can not get much grimmer than some of the places I have been to in Belarus. The towns near Chernobly were very, very grim.

A member of staff I had walked Bryan Ferrys mother to get the bus from Worswick Street, Newcastle. Bryan wanted to go to night club and needed some to look after his mum. (early 1970’s). Anyone else remember Worswick Street bus station?

    Zed, http:
    You must go here,

    //www.viator.com/tours/Berlin/Sachsenhausen-Concentration-Camp-Memorial-Walking-Tour/d488-3817CAMP?pref=02&aid=g1230

Go by train from the city centre. Its a harrowing, unforgetable day out. I visited the camp in the late 1980’s and was shown around by one of the ex inmates. I remember that he could name some of the SS guards in the pictures that were on the walls. He told us the story that one of the guards was caught living in Berlin in 1983.

I’d look for somewhere west of Carlisle. 10+ miles takes you around the Wigton area. Keep out of Wigton, there are some great villages nearby and the prices are ok in comparison to the National Park. Nelson Tomlinson secondary school (its in Wigton) is very good, its worth living in the catchment area. You have easy access to the northern fells which are ace for mtb / road biking. I moved over 2 years ago from the NE, wish i did it years ago.

So I recon I’ll get a better set of spare winter road wheels by using my old (but good condition) hubs on a new set of rims. Say £45 for the rims, £30 to build them?

Come to think of it Ive also got front wheel with a nice old hope hub thats still running silky smooth. Its got a ceramic rim thats worn out too. Need to find out the costs of fitting the rim.

Mr Mullin spoke at the Youth Parliament a couple of times. Funny thing is, the youth parliament elected the only Tory Yoof in the city to be its spoke person. Oh how we laughed……

I seem to remember Sunderland spent thousands of pounds ‘setting up’ a youth parliament. Be interesting to hear what it has to say.
