I built mine on a whim, at the time I couldnt get a demo and jungle didnt have anything around. In the end I got mine from Chevin cycles in otley, cracking bunch!

I originally wanted the Hot Tamale (red) colour but I would have had a wait on my hands.

I built up a RIP 9 and had it for about 18 months. I had the 2010 frame in black. It was a cracking bike, relly fast and climbed really well. I found it very twitchy on the trails but it had a sharp head angle, I believe the 2011 and on frames have a slightly slacker angle.

I had 120mm talas forks on mine, a lot get away with 140mm forks and if I built another I would do that. I had the Stans Arch 29er rim and found they had a lot of flex, wish I had gone for the flow.

If you go for a tripple up front you would need to go for 42 tooth (middleburn) outer ring to stop chainsuck that you get with a 44.

A couple of pics of mine.

Cant remember my DT forks having a knock (some FOX ones I had did, Rebound apparently) but as for the red rebound knob, the red doesn’t stay on long although if it has come off the forks wont be virtually new and un-ridden. Mine came off but that was due to riding and using the button/knob.

It is possible though that it could have belonged to someone with OCD that wanted it polished. Is there any red on it at all?

I had the DT Swiss EXC 150 forks with carbon lowers on my Pace 506. I never had any issues with them, nice and stiff. The plushest forks I have owned.

I just bought a new one to replace my Giro Animas. It was old and had to go. Set at it with a pick axe and binned it.

WTF!!?!?!! your moaning because they send it probably the most fastest, secure, safest ways to do so

Recorded is not any of the above, it’s just 1st or 2nd class that gets a signature at the other end. Nothing stopping it going missing, you can’t track it. All it does is let the sender know it got there and was singed for.

Nothing stopping the post man thinking, **** this, sign it themselves and leave it on your step.

I still like them, but they are skimping on the armour plating!

Never had an issue with them, not bought a lot from them but the Hope X2’s I ordered turned up next day. Faultless.

I have been using my LBS for years, since they started up and to be fair I have had pretty good service there and in turn I have bought a lot of expensive gear there that I could have got cheaper online.

In the last couple of years they have grown as a business (good on em) but I have noticed that the chats and banter we had has pretty much fizzled out, even being point blank ignored at times. Took it on the chin, figured they were busy and didn’t expect them to down tools to chat all the time.

Couple of weeks back I went in there in the market for a new full sus. One of the assistants came over and we were discussing a very nice bike which I was just about to pull me wallet out for when an American sounding mature student comes in after a bike on the CTW scheme. I was instantly dropped for the customer who sounded like she had lots of money to shell out.

Anyway, at this point I was a bit miffed and walked out. He saw me walking out and tried to do a re-gain but it was too late. I went to another LBS and spent my 2K on another bike.

I am still considering whether to go back there or not.

Isla bikes are expensive but IMO well worth the money, if you book an appointment and go there you get cracking service.

My daughters on her second Isla bike now. They hold their value well second hand.

Got a Nabi tablet for girlfriends 7 year old at Xmas. Really good. Has a mum mode so you
can restrict internet for the little ones while you can look at whatever you like.

Got a Nabi for my 7 yr old daughter, its brilliant, I use it to get on the net too when shes getting her head down!

Try the Rocha John Rocha loose fit jeans at Debenhams, I have the same issue and they fit a treat.

As someone who has been riding 29er for a good few years, IMO 26 are the ones to go for in the long travel variety, much better on the technical stuff.

The mark up on things is obscene. I was looking at getting some Crank Bro’s Candy 2’s and the guy at the bike shop was showing me what was available in the catalogue they had. They bought them in for £30 and then the RRP was £70 😯

I have Niner’s Rigid RDO forks on my AIR 9, I love riding Rigid. It’s a bike that I can pick up, ride it and throw back in the shed without having to worry about anything but some lube here and there.

It’s all well and good hitting trails on a big hitting FS but you just ride over everything, rigids take me back to that time when I didn’t have suspension and you had to read the trail better. I also find it a lot more fun, I can go just as fast on that as my mates on their full sussers, granted at the end my eyeballs have been shaken loose in their sockets and the hands may hurt a bit but it’s worth it because you have worked for it.

It’s well worth trying, oh and I don’t have a beard!

I have Diecast models sent sometimes, its about 4.7% import tax and 20%VAT.

I should have added that the stuff I get sent I have paid import duty on (still get a good deal), I wouldn’t take the risk but a few I know do!

Not arsed what Starbucks and Amazon do TBH, I wish I could get away with paying tax!

You will need to watch you don’t get stung for Import tax coming back into the UK, it might not work out so cheap if you do.

If they send it to you and value it as a gift and £36 and below it will be free of import duty 😉

I have a lot sent to me from the US and have found that UPS is really good. usually about a 10 day turn round.

I had to man up and get the balls to cut my carbon steerer on my Niner rigids. Measured about 10 times and then went for it. Nice and slow with a hacksaw! Worked a treat!

I’ve found if you are going to do these thing’s it’s well worth spending a couple of quid on a saw guide (X Tools) and have a decent hacksaw in your toolbox. Although I like the idea above with the old stem!
