I run 1×9 on my 700c commuter. 44 front ring (in middle position) on a mtb crankset with 11-32 cassette. For me it gives a wide enough range and the gaps aren’t a problem.

You can’t beat the surly chain tug. About £20 though.

Signed up for the pairs again. I’ve ‘raced’ it every year and to be honest I didn’t mind the course last year (easier to overtake) although the previous route is more fun. My team mate hated the other side of the A27 though and up A&E is wrong.

Bike – depends how i feel on the day

If you’re handy with a sewing machine (or know someone who is) this is a good guide on how to make your own

Right, nearest to the door and furthest from the radiator. In our old flat it was still the right but away from the door and near the radiator (but also the window that let in lots of cold air).

I’ve forgotten most things at least once. The most annoying though were forgetting a pump when I went the ‘long way’ and got a flat 7 miles from work/home and opening my bag to find I have no shirt, then sitting in a damp t-shirt at my desk.

It works really well. I know you don’t want an on-one but here’s my inbred 26 with 29er wheels and 700×32 tyres. There’s room for full guards too if you want.

When my wife was knocked off by a taxi we did a no win no fee claim through our home insurance. We did have a police and ambulance report though. We were only after costs for new bike and helmet (£400) but had to do an injury claim too fit the insurance to help.

Specialized Purgatory is a great front tyre. A very popular combo with the Ground Control on the back too.

I have a Dakota 20 and its great for that. Get a microSD and a free opensource map from talkytoaster and you’re sorted. It used aa batteries too which I find useful rather than having to charge it before going out. We also use ours for cycling, walking and geocaching.

I’ll struggle to keep to that coming down Bear Road in the morning, I should be ok going back up though.

I think that is outside the zone anyway. It runs from Sackville Road in the west to Freshfield Road inb the east and up to (but excluding) Old Shoreham Road. IMO it will not make any difference to how people drive round Brighton if there is no enforcement.

1990 Apollo Atomic (yellow & black). Must have been about a 20″ frame and I was 11! It lasted about 2 years before I broke it. Then I had a Carrera Katalyst with elevated frame. That lasted 2 years before it got stolen 🙁 I then had a Saracen Eiger which developed purple-itis and i had for a long time 🙂

The pomp actually comes with the road bb7’s so only needs the shifters, bars and tape to convert it. With some shopping around that could be under £200.

The 700c p2’s canti bosses will be too high for 26″ wheels and probably too short on the a/c (~400mm irc).

I believe they used to make the Road Rat in long & short versions for flatbars & dropbars respectively but only make the long version now.
