The simple fact is that had that young man been successful, the world would be a safer and more sane place today

I suspect the opposite is true

IMO the problem with MMT is that it requires really detailed analysis for what inflationary pressures might arise from particular spending plans, and identify ways to reduce those.  Economists (and therefore governments) aren’t very good at that because economics isn’t a science.

As I understand it, tho Biden has overwhelmingly got enough delegates to be nominated at the convention, if he stands aside now, those delegates could then vote for anyone else

Nevada will not allow a replacement candidate on the ballot

But he’s not yet the official democrat candidate is he?  They haven’t had the convention to formalise it….or have they?

The in-laws were very hurt apparently by the shares and posts from our friends they saw about brexit voters being stupid. The gammon accusations etc.

As a result of the above I’d say he’s probably felt rejected from a large section of society, that he’d now label as woke. He’s be completely unable to tell you what woke meant but it’s a slur to counteract gammon I guess

Which possibly explains an awful lot of the Reform vote

Probably been asked before, but anyone else watched the “Brawn: the impossible formula”?

I’ve just got a “free” Disney account and found it there…apart from Keanu being pointlessly in it, it’s interesting to see the inside story.

Stamp duty should be completely abolished to encourage movement.

    Capital gains on primary residences.

I think these two would cancel each other out

Council tax should double on second homes, treble on third homes etc.

Councils in Wales already at least double council tax on second/third homes

In Canada* they’ve introduced an empty homes tax, which is 3% of the property value, per annum.  To avoid paying it, you have to have long term renters (short term is banned).

    * might be BC only not all of Canada

I do like that C4 seem to have replaced Horner with James Vowles as their tame team principal

Picking people with genuine experience in the areas and enabling them to contribute rather than positions for mates and those that will further your own political needs.

how can anything about the hush money case be seen as an official act of a president

As I understand it, it’s something to do with some of the evidence the prosecutor used in the trial, which came from when he was in office.  The argument is that evidence shouldn’t have been included cos of immunity, and if it hadn’t, he’d have been found not guilty.

Well, that is ridiculous…Norris got past Max off track, and gave the place back immediately….Max gets past Norris off track and petulantly complains about being pushed off (which he wasn’t), keeps the place and subsequently crashes into Norris.  If he’d immediately given the place back, he couldn’t have ruined Lando’s race.  And all Max gets is a meaningless in-game penalty.

I must admit, I thought Max had matured over the last season or two, but today he’s shown that he can’t handle the pressure of being challenged and has to resort to cheating.

I’m looking forward to the highlights but the guys on BBC feed seemed unanimous that the collision was Max’s fault.

Ta – I do not know Plaid policies.  I assume similar to the SNP

Yeah but bizarrely no mention of independence in the manifesto launch, apparently (again, happy to be corrected)

leaflets stating that according to latest polling

But the leaflet clearly states when the poll was done, and that may well have been when the print was ordered.  What do you want them to do….bin a load of leaflets cos a later poll has shown a change?

none of the English parties are aiming at those things apart from maybe Greens

I don’t think the Greens are for undoing Brexit (happy to be corrected).

    Plaid Cymru are tho 😁

I suppose I could vote Green.  What are you going to do about it?

I’m a member of the political party I support.  If I wanted to, I could be much more involved locally and try to influence the party’s policies from within.   It might not have much impact, but at least I’d be trying.

Or I could just whine on a niche internet forum.

There’s barely anything good coming out of this campaign.  What a terrible state of affairs the UK is in.

We seem to have forgotten about inequality, housing, jobs, climate and infrastructure.

Well done MPs of all sides for not offering up solutions to pressing problems.

So what are you going to do about it (other than whine on a niche internet forum)?

Neither would be rape under UK law as withdrawing consent after the act is simply not a UK legal position.

Tj I really don’t understand why you think this is defence?  It didn’t happen in the UK, so that is completely irrelevant

I am convinced Ageism is a thing.

Clearly it is with attitudes like this:

they often are particularly poor on stuff we would consider to be absolute basics in 2024 – IT etc.

Many (most?) people in their 50s/60s will have used IT for 30 plus years

Because they’re the third largest party in the UK

Really? As a percentage of UK voters?

Anyway, Sunak was awful in that debate and the vast majority of the audience clearly couldn’t stand him.

Why do the SNP get a platform on this national debate on the BBC, given they’re irrelevance to the vast majority of the population?

Yes because road and in particular GTs aren’t a team sport like football where Man City win, it its a team sport where the team works to ensure one guy wins and that’s probably the guy with the big ego.

But his teammates have to want to support him….

I’m really enjoying it…like Drive to Survive, I find it really interesting to see what goes on in the background.

But Tom Pidcock….clearly such a talented bike rider, but such an ego.  He must be a nightmare to manage.  I know f all about it, but can he ever win a grand tour if he doesn’t recognise that it’s a team sport (unlike cyclocross or cross country mtb)?

I’ve had bouts of palpitations (and was particularly bad this time last year).  I’ve had an ablation to fix AF and I was concerned that the AF was back.  I got lucky and spoke to a GP in my surgery who was interested in palpitations and arrhythmias in general cos he was a fellow sufferer.  Anyway, he recommended looking on YouTube for Dr Sanjay Gupta at York Cardiology.  He’s produced a bunch of vids about it.

It won’t cure you but it may ease your concerns while you wait for tests etc

His new Italian host literally recoiled in horror when he went to greet her

    No, she didn’t.

If you watch the video, she’s leaning back laughing at something he said to her.  The still taken from the video is out of context, and the Guardian’s headline is misleading to say the least.
