I read somewhere (maybe on here) that you can try putting a sheet of baking foil on a carpeted stair, sit on that, then measure the imprint to get the width of your sit bones.

Pain is telling you something, don’t ignore it.  Hope you get sorted out – doesn’t sound like much fun to me.

Thanks – that’s rather what I’d hoped.  Presumably in the case of a building warrant it’d need testing before it all gets signed off.

    Ah, i may have misunderstood.

Is this any use: 1-gang to 2-gang converter?

    edit to make link linky

I’ll be heading through Gleneagles on my way to Oban on Monday Morning (28th).  I need to be there for 09.30 so you should be in time for the ferry if that’s any use?  PM if that’s of use.

edit – yeah, like wot they said

joint taping compound can be sanded with a big sponge scourer which keeps the dust down if you are doing it.

Back up a tick, £7 for an inner tube?

Otherwise, no, I don’t count, as I fear I may come to a similar conclusion.  Splitting capital and revenue would help make the running costs seem more palatable though!

yes, I suppose technically illegal unless you ‘have good reason’ – which I think OP does – IANAL etc.

You think heinnie’s bad, try here: https://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/

For camping with cubs, I’d suggest an Opinel on the grounds of simplicity, sharpness and minimal outlay in case of loss.  Edit:  Mora if you want fixed rather than folding.

For a treat for yourself there’s a whole set of options, legalities covered by the first and last bullet points below.

“Examples of good reasons to carry a knife or weapon in public can include:

    • taking knives you use at work to and from work
    • taking it to a gallery or museum to be exhibited
    • if it’ll be used for theatre, film, television, historical reenactment or religious purposes, for example the kirpan some Sikhs carry
    • if it’ll be used in a demonstration or to teach someone how to use it”

Some nice “bushcraft” knives about, but don’t quite meet what I think you meant in the OP. That’s more scout level in my view.

Oh the comment about pizza oven reminds me.  Get a cheap pizza stone on amazon, bung it on top of the grill, set to nuclear.  By the time you’ve arranged your artisan cheeses it’s ready to go.

    Good advice above on regulators.

spend a bit more on the weber, can’t imagine you’ll regret it.  weve got one of the Q ones, I think the numbers relate to size, and maybe whether its got legs or not.  Just watch cos some take wee cartridges, rather than a big bottle

Who gives a shit about what its called. You’ll have finished your steak before the charcoal lot are ready to cook.

It’s so you can fit them the right way round – sinister and dexter.

So far as I’ve been able to tell the Terra Nova Laser, Wild Country Zephyros, Force 10 Helium and Vango Zenith are essentially the same tent.  TN and WC are the same firm really, likewise F10/Vango, so the difference in price is really weight and materials.

Certainly for the helium (and I strongly suspect the others) the main pole goes in a sleeve round the outside, so while officially an outer first pitch, they actually go up in one.  I am not sure, but I think there might be subtle differences in the lengths of the end poles (48cm on helium) if getting them in a frame bag is important?

As for best, well I dunno, but I suspect that by the time you’ve got tarp and bivvy gear you are looking at more or less the same weight and bulk of a tent.  It’s all about choices.

does mav12’s linked adapter allow filling from larger threaded canisters, or just from the butane cylinder type?  It’s a lot more appealing than 25 quid!

Think I’d be putting it in writing/formally to the agency if you haven’t already.  They’ll be the ones that instructed the work, aren’t they?  Be clear about the resolution you require, and a timetable for completing it.  I can’t see that they have any wriggle room at all (but Edinburgh agent…)

    I quite like viewranger.

In the desktop/web app, mine has an option for route generation (top right, just below where you choose which style of map to use).  I find that opencycle map is fairly useful for route planning, and the rout generation means you can click at intervals and it fills in all the fiddly bits for you.

Turn by turn would be good, but probably mainly for road use – I doscovered too late that my new phone lacks a compass – if you’ve got one theres a nifty look where you are going app that ive forgotten the name of.

At the risk of a slight hijack, does anyone know if its possible to use the OS download links (that comewith paper maps) in view ranger, or do I have to buy through them?

KC001 and their (quecha) trainers here too.  The pedals are a good size for kids feet actually, although the pins aren’t that grippy.

    Golf with a roof box?

Every few years I ask myself the same thing, and then buy another golf. A4 estate perhaps?

911 and a freight forwarding service?

Octy estate is the official answer on here isn’t it?

Sorry elshamino I missed that question previously – I’ve not weighed mine.  Unhelpfully its inbetween my road bike and my mountain bike.  The stock wheels aren’t especially light though, so would possibly consider that as an early upgrade if I went down that route.

Some weights were noted in the other thread – which also discusses use as a commuter if that’s any help.

Blazin-saddles – thanks that’s pretty much the same weight as the zephyros by the look of things, but from what I can gather perhaps a little snug (the name suggests one person, or a very close friend?).

Good point on the pitch stevious – that helvellyn starts to get a bit heavy though.  That MSR looks nice (and my wallet would be lighter too!) – is that pole arrangement as complicated as it looks?

edit: i should have said, preference would be 2 kg or under really.

Just bought Vango Icarus 500 delux tents for the cubs.  I think that would tick off many of the obvious options noted above.  The poles and fabric are a bit thicker than the cheapos, so should last.  There’s a tension band thing to support it in the wind.  Headroom good, and two ‘bedrooms’ if that’s beneficial.  280 at Go Outdoors, topcashback etc.

The same tent seems to be sold as slightly different things so each chain can claim ‘exclusive to’.

Otherwise, the simple answer is to pick the decathlon one you like the best.

Trap/day shelter suggestion is a good one – with a bit of care and maybe an extra pole you could possibly rig a tarp as a porch extension.

At the other end of the scale we’ve used a vango beta 350xl successfully with the kids on a few trips.  Lower and smaller, but enough space to get out of the rain if you need to.

There’s loads to see (or there was, I went years ago).  Quite fancy going back now.

^ Chief’s right you know. That there is a bona fide child seat mounting bracket, Bobike make something like it, but I can’t now recall the exact model.

Popular in the Netherlands (the reference to rudder made me snigger).  It has the dual purpose of preventing future requirements for the seat that was just removed!

edit: Ha! no sooner posted than remembered, but I find smashit’s beaten me to it.
