firstly let me apologise for the blatant sexist thread i posted, i appreciate there are men who sew (G.B Sewing bee proves that) and ladies read this forum – i beg your pardon..

ok, after 3hrs productive surfing at work, budget is £450, needs to be bombproof as her current aging brother has provided sterling service. Anyone used PFAFF machines, good reviews for many of the models.

thanks convert for the link, i’ll ring them tomorrow. I cant ask the wife what bells and whistles she needs as it would give the game away, she’s tried a more modern machine with the various stitches and other gadgets and was impressed. she uses her current machine regularly as she makes her own clothes and clothes for the kiddies so whatever i go for wont be gathering dust and me wishing i’d spend the money on a set of king R45’s

    cheers all

dont think angels has been updates as i was not too impressed with the quality, if it has, the previous incarnation must have been Shi$e

ok, bought ‘angels’ yesterday and tried it out with and early morning session in the garage. All i can say is you guys must be right wimps if you think its hard……well thats what i’m gonna tell my club mates in reality i hadn’t sweated that much since my last visit to Space in ibiza in 1997. Its brought a new dimension to my turbo sessions and makes you work past your normal level. I was going to opt for a fancy tacx VR machine but think this will do and so much cheaper :)

spent 2 weeks, of a 4 week trip, around the alps last year (based in bourg) amazing place. i managed to bag quite a few of the classic mountains without upsetting the family by doing the following:

prep the wife in advance “darling this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, its something ive wanted to do since i was a wee boy”

Get out early – i left to do croix de fer at 5.30am. You miss the traffic (which is fairly light anyway), miss the midday heat and get back to help with the kiddies breakie.

take them up the hills – after i’d ticked them off we all piled into the campervan and drove to the tops, they loved Alpe d’huez as we could all do a wee walk out from the top. there is shed loads to do for families

buy your wife something – mine had always wanted a ‘cow skin’ rug, cost me a small fortune but i got her one as we were leaving.

finally, dont be too daunted by the hills, if your are reasonably fit and pace yourself all should be well. i actually found that once in you get in the mindset they hill were not that bad.

    enjoy

got the troy lee’s and immediately sent them back. Word of warning to folk, these do appear to size up big, i used the Troy lee size chart which put me at a med, but when they came they were too big. Nice pads though, got a small on the way :)
