We don’t want mixed sex toilets.

And I pointed this out early, about mens poor hygene.

keep women only facilities and introduce gender neutral ones

and keep men-only facilities then – I object to gender favouritism.

What if men don’t feel comfortable in gender-neutral tiolets – why do they have to ‘suck it up’ but women don’t.

“Equality” doesn’t mean doing the same for everyone, especially when needs are different between demographics, it’s doing what is fair. Should there be sanitary towel bins in the gents?

It does mean doing the same thing – the clue is in the letters “equal” which appear in “equality” but don’t appear in “fair”. And fair in whose opinion ?

You do realise, don’t you, that this isn’t as simple as a hairy-arsed bloke waking up one morning and thinking “I think I’ll be a woman today”?

except that this does happen :

    https://www.christian.org.uk/news/male-prisoners-self-identifying-as-trans-for-perks/

    https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/oct/11/karen-white-how-manipulative-and-controlling-offender-attacked-again-transgender-prison

Some women don’t even feel comfortable in women-only toilets – surely anyone with a partner has witnessed occasions where they have arrived home ‘bursting’ because they didn’t want to use any public toilets that they felt weren’t clean enough, but were actually of a reasonable standard?

So foreign users can still stream via TuneIn whereas license fee payers can’t ?

The whole thing is ridiculous – the sooner the BBC lose the license fee the better. The argument that they produce better quality programming than others is long past it’s sell by date now

Without question the cleanest places were pet food factories. The whiney animal activists were the ones who could get you closed down the fastest.

Have you any contact details – could do with some to go and hassle the company that gave my cats TB ?

    Spoiler alert…

Just followed a link about something else, and found that Joker is causing quite a stir in the US, what with possible mass shooting threat , etc…

Hopefully it will cause a reaction of the scale of ‘mee-too’ where people realise that the way society acts does an awful lot towards forming these dissassocated characters.

It wasn’t him that orchestrated the abuse as a kid, the muggings from the kids on the street, the ridicule and failed mugging from the jerks in the tube, the orchestrated public humiliation from Robert De Niro, that turned him into what he eventually became.

‘Reap what you Sow’ on a societal level.

They will be stopping VHF and DAB broadcasts soon as you can’t collect data on the users from it.

    And Freeview for that matter.

The BBC gets more and more pathetic.

See my post earlier with the URLs to the high quality streams, perhaps you can do something with those ? My Roon can tune in to them.

If you have women only toilets then you must have men only toilets – equality doesn’t run in just one direction.

Just do away with urinals and only have traps everywhere – so all toilets are ‘gender-neutral’ – what’s the problem?

There’s no doubt that my cats don’t kill any birds :-)

British Shorthairs are the most popular pedigree cat breed in the UK and they are an ‘indoor’ cat, even if they are let out they don’t normally roam – mainly as their owners don’t trust their ‘street smarts’ enough, plus they are quite nickable.

The percentage of the bird population that suffer from BSHs must be close to 0%.

    TurnerGuy

It’s a pub – very few men are going to need a “sitting down” toilet,

have you noticed how much those urinals ‘splash’ back at you ?

And I’ve got a pretty desperate bladder with low flow rate so for a normal person they must return back to the bar well ‘covered in piss’.

Combined with the fact that a very high percentage of men don’t bother to wash their hands and therefore the door handle to get out of the toilet is also ‘covered in piss and fecal matter’ then gender neutral toilets sound like a pretty unattractive option for non ‘males’

Just tried driving whilst looking at the nearside kerb a distance in front of me and it’s no problem and no issue with bright lights – just try it.

Is it worth gathering the kids around for a ‘team’ talk – you get them to describe their world as they see it and what problems they are having, etc, and then you go last?

See if it changes anything once they realise what the situation is really like?

but grabbing a wet muddy/road filth covered front wheel and balancing on your foot isn’t idea.

Don’t think I ever grabbed the front wheel, only ever the fork.

I used to do the fold by reaching over the bike and grabbing the frame with the saddle behid my shoulder for stabilty and lifting the bike, and then folding everything whilst it was lifted. Saw it on a video where someone was trying to fold/unfold as fast as possible, but can’t find it now.

As I would lift the bike that way to carry it up and down stairs at the railway station, it all seemed natural, and less bitty than the fold/unfolds above.

Birdy is stiffer as there is no hinge.

    Fold is fast.

Get the sport stem, not the comfort one which is too much amsterdam-bike like. Less stable in traffic.

With big apple tyres on the birdy it rides pretty much like a normal bike, and fast. Also more stable.

the brompton is a clown bike compared.

If you find the ride tiring though have you considered conveting to an ebike – like the Sparticle kit. As it is a converson you don’t need to make it pedelec and can even just use the throttle and not peddle. A very good option if cycling in London so you minimise breathing the nasty air.

    https://www.electricbikesales.co.uk/3879/builder/2020-sparticle-electric-brompton-conversion-system.aspx

still rides a little funny but not as bad.

at night drive whilst looking at the nearside curb, not straight ahead.

    Dad taught me that.

Then you don’t get blinded by oncoming cars that kill your night vision.

Also as an army cadet I was told that, when looking out at night, rely on your peripheral vision to see moving things as the centre of the eye is better for colers and not so good with black/white, and the peripheral is better for black/white, and it does work. Especially for moving things.

It’s probably disingenuous to suggest that cats aren’t a factor though.

as previously said, mine aren’t close to being a factor in declining bird populations.

Of more concern is the environmental impact of the clay cat litter I use – which is probably strip mined in the USA and then shipped over here, and then swells up loads when they pee in it so is a big, heavy mass to dump in the landfill – and the source of the meat they eat – which used to be venison (before they caught TB) and will probably be rabbit (from France I think) and ox, and maybe venison again from a better supplier.

the brexit decision needs to be completely divorced from a GE – there needs to be a referendum first or the issue will be completely clouded by political affiliations.

In fact A50 just needs to be revoked until a workable NI border solution has been agreed with the Irish (not anyone else…).

Then, if such a solution can be found (…) have that 2nd referendum with options to 1. leave so no EU body has any control (courts/etc), 2. remain, 3. customs union/eea/whatever, 4. anything else, and apply PR to the vote – like most political elections are at university.

On the 3 or 4 occasions one of mine has got out of the garden he has basically sat on the other side of the fence meowing to come back, and I have to put a piece of latticework over the fence for him to use as a ladder to get back up the fence.

Another time he managed to thrown himself out of an upstairs window and I found him the next morning cowering under the car with badly strained leg.

The other one jumped out the bathroom window a few weeks ago and then proceeded to just meow for hours until I rescued her from a sloped roof that ends about 8ft above the ground (and 50% grass at that).

The only risk to birds they present is if a bird could die laughing at their incompetance.

Both British Short Hairs – one a blue and one lilac.

you can’t change the bitrate – I complained and they said :

“it defaults at the “Best all-rounder” quality which has a great balance of both audio quality and disk space.”

    and

“At the moment, there aren’t any plans to include higher quality downloads on the app. We reviewed the usage data and found that only a very small number of users opted to use the higher quality downloads on the iPlayer Radio app, so the option won’t be included on BBC Sounds. ”

that sounds like an incredibly laszy response – the files to download are produced and available and there is prototype code in iplayer radio to half-inch.

It is possible to get them using the get_iplayer program, as highlighted above. But how long that bitrate will be available is another matter.

When it goes so does my TV license subscription…

I tried that ‘great’ download quality and it is unlistenable with headphones – very poor.

Sad to watch the BBC in a race to the bottom when it used to lead the world for standards…

Are cats part of the eco-system of birds natural predetors in this day-and-age ?

Would stopping cats killing birds result in a butterfly-flaps-his-wings type chaos apocalypse of bird over population.

I’ve seen “The Birds” and I don’t fancy that – I think an overpopulation of cats would be easier to deal with.

Turnerguy – corbyn refused to share a platform with tories

typically mature approach – he is just a student politician that has managed to keep that gig going for his whole career.

he said they just viewed the EU as Neo Liberal club for rich nations…

The EU is full on neo-Liberal, it’s about as far from Socialism as you can get.

it is – I am surprised there is so much support for it here. Seems hypocritical to me.

I’m staggered that anyone is unaware of Corbyn/McDonnel/Abbot/Skinners’s views on the EU, they’ve been spouting this stuff for 40 years.

yep, it is like all the people supporting Armstrong for so long.

I bought one of the Rab Pertex + based jackets and it seems a bit sweaty compared to previous goretex activeshell and paclight jackets I have had.

I’m 99% confident there wouldn’t be any spousal maintenance as she’s a high earner too…

spousal maintenance could be her paying it to you if you have the kids to look after.

trade some of that for more money now so you can give the kids better conditions, and maybe trade some access as well

If you’ve got the kids then that should squew the settlement in your favour as you need to house them rather than just yourself.

Or there might be some maintenance aspect of it that you can trade for more equity now.

A reasonable partner would recognise the need for the split to favor the kids, although when it’s not amicable reason goes out the window.

You can buy solicitor consultation from wikivorce as well.

Try get_iplayer if you want to download stuff? Not sure what bit rate it uses.

    get_iplayer worked.

It looks like a big, nasty shell script and there are numerous command line options, but on Windows there is a basic GUI interface and if you modify the search options it shows the command being executed int he command window – if you want to automate it.

Downloads default to the highest quality.

So downloaded and used itunes to put them on the ipad which was easy as they are .m4a files.

Can also put the downloads on the NAS for use on the main hifi.

So a great solution until the BBC spot that there is no point producing the high quality files as BBC Sounds can’t use them.

    Thanks for the tip.

Thanks, no kids or real complications, all amicable

Also no kids, sort of amicable, etc.

I used wikivorce.com as recommended above.

Cost about a grand in the end, including court fees.

I used the wikivorce financial settlement consultation service first :

    https://www.wikivorce.com/divorce/Legal-Advice-On-Financial-Settlement.html

where you fill in a spreadsheet with both your assets on (I had a house, she had a flat, savings, pension, etc) and years together, and then you get a phone call consultation followed by a written report/advice.

The filling in of the spreadsheet of assets together and receiving the report makes the whole process quite transparent and then you can use the report, which was produced by a 3rd party and therefore hopefully seen as unbiased by your partner, as the basis of the forthcoming financial settlement.

If you agree any adjustments you are going to make, like trading your pension for more percentage of the house for example, before the consultation and mention them during it, and if it is fair then the solicitor will include this in the report.

You can also contract the solicitors services more at a fee if you need more advice.

Then I used their managed divorce service.

I put on the divorce document in the bit that now requires you to have mediation that this consultation and report was the mediation.

I did go to actual mediation but it seemed pretty useless and a waste of time to me, particularly if you are amicable. They will not advise you if the split you and your partner come up with will be seen as ‘fair’ by a judge, so you risk coming up with something that could get thrown out.

It’s better to just let a 3rd party like the wikivorce solicitors come up with an unbiased starting point and confirm whether your adjustments look fair.

I am not sure if no-blame divorces are a thing yet, but their solicitor also advised one side admitting to adultery as it doesn’t affect the settlement but speeds it all up. If you are amicable it is going to be difficult to come up with 5 reasons for incompatibility and the financial uncertainty of a lengthy seperation period really sucks – as the 50/50 split (or whatever) is based on your financial state at the end of the seperation period, not the start (which is why many people stop their pension payments during the seperation). In fact the uncertainty will add a lot to any feelings of depression.

Remember to keep exercising and not mope around letting feelings of depression build up. And don’t let yourself get angry about it, just suck it up and maintain your mental health ready for any future relationship.

Sadly, I agree with Binners, yesterday’s fun will result in voters thinking “can we trust them if they get to form a government”,

you meant a few more votors, because a lot of people, including labour votors, think like that now.
