I’m building up a carbon tallboy Ltc.. I do the odd trail centre- but most of my riding is big day outs like torridon, skye etc.

@roverpig. That looks like what I want to do.. I take it I just need to get a hold of a double and use the inner ring?

I’ve got the basic go pro and it’s great. Footage is crystal clear and if you don’t have it running all day I battery charge will do you the day. I’ve used it boarding and biking..

I’ve got the chance of a spesh camber comp carbon for 1800.. or santa cruz tallboy Ltc frame with pikes, reverb headset, stem.. For 1700.. haven’t ridden either which isn’t ideal. The spesh is new which is better whereas obviously I wouldn’t have a warranty with the santa cruz..

I started a similar thread to yourself not long ago about 29ers. I’m 6ft 2″ , but all legs and arms.. I’m looking at having to buy an XL to get something with a decent sized toptube . I had considered the 129 but the clearance issue put me off and 3k is a bit pricey for the SCR. I’m leaning towards a tallboy or an orbea occam Tr..

I use dogtag. 1 years cover for multiple trips (m.biking, winter sports etc) £100.. that covers you worldwide.

Looked good. But out of stock and for a carbon 29er nearly 14.5kg..

Did my accreditation at the hoy velodrome, only cost about £65 to complete. As ianc says you can do the drop in and it’s fairly cheap. Great fun and the bikes are reasonably cheap to purchase in comparison to anything else and they’ll last!

@the fopster. Was it the tr m30 you were thinking about? What model strive did you opt for?

That 29er looks seriously impressive. 150mm pikes on a 29er would be interesting!

Having a go on a tallboy next weekend and then a shot on the orbea the week after. Got a chance of a trek fuel ex9.8 for about 1.9k. It’s a trek though…

@teamslug.. I’m 6 2″ with a 34 inseam.. and looong arms. Was thinking about the xl. The tr m30 looks good value at the top of my budget at 3k. Looks lovely in the orange. Just need to try and find somewhere that does demo’s.im from Scotland but would travel.

Im thinking about going for the specialised butcher control tubeless.. i can get a hold of a pair for £45.. they seem to get good feedback from users. Was contemplating the maxxis but they seem really heavy. cheers for the input folks. 🙂

@gfrew88.. that’s what I’m leaning towards. There just out of my price range for a new one. I’ve seen a used one that I could afford, but obviously no warranty with it and I’m not sure I’d like a carbon bike with no warranty

Wow.. lot of replies! I had enquired about a banshee phantom but wasn’t sure about the look of it. It ticked the box’s in all other respects apart from maybe the weight. There’s a lot of good suggestions there guys and gives me plenty food for thought. Not really a fan of specialised bikes but they keep coming recommended so they must be good..

Want it to do a bit of everything.. I ride trail centres and torridon, skye, devils staircase etc..not really interested in enduro stuff..

Budget would probably be absolute max 3k (it would have to be a used tallboy probably )

I was thinking about one of these.. just wondered what weight they were coming in at.. noticed they were bringing out the 130 in carbon..

Just dropped SierraMTB a mail.. seems a really good deal. £365 for there package plus £180 for flights including bike seems a great price for a week!

Looked into madeira but unfortunately I can’t get a direct flight from Scotland.. no one runs any trips in Morocco in Dec. . Thinking Spain somewhere.. where would be best chance of decent weather and good trails..?

Looked at the freeride madeira last night. . Looks really good. Not sure whether it might be a bit too gnar for me! I’m not into mega steep rocky sketchy stuff..

That’s good to know that the Ltc’s don’t seem to be affected as I’m looking at purchasing a used one. Can’t quite afford a new one unfortunately..

yeh, That’s what spurred me to ask the question. I’m just wondering if they still used the same manufacturing process in the Ltc with regards to the lower linkage?

I was scouring the Internet and came across this thread from a few years ago on STW.

“Looks like the 2013/14 Bronson / Solo / Tallboy Carbon2 now have square inserts as opposed to the circular ones in the lower link mount, time will tell I suppose as to whether cracks form but the square shape should prevent this.”

Just wondering if all Ltc’s came with square inserts??

Thanks for all the input folks. I’m 6ft 2″. It’s an xl I’m looking at. Most of my stuff is natural stuff I ride. Skye, torridon etc. Don’t do anything too gnarly..

    Think carbon is 5lb.. I’m looking at a 5010 full build. It’s a 2014 though..
