@scaredypants.. why frowny? im all up for supporting your lbs, but if you can get a bike no far off new condition for 1/2 the price, why not?

Go try some bikes at your LBS, then look at ebay etc and buy secondhand.. you can get a lot of bike for your money when it comes to roadbikes..and they generally dont see the same abuse as a mountain bike.

Organised one to les get/morzine over the winter period. flights worked out at £100 each, hired a gorgeous chalet for £90 each, 8 seater minivan hire for a week which was £60 each then liftpasses for the group which ranged from day pass’s at £20 each to the full 6 day port de soleil pass which was £180.. we stayed in a village called st jean d’aulps. had our pick of going to either les get, morzine or avoriaz every day, all within a 10min drive. And a great supermarket nearby for all our food & drink requirements.. 😀

Thanks for all the replies.. seems quite a common problem. Im not getting any discomfort when i ride the bike, but when im lifting and strangely when im walking. I work in a warehouse enviroment so i have been told by docs to do ‘light duties’ for a couple of weeks. Going to try one of the hernia supports that you can get ( horrible looking things!) but if it helps it’ll be worth it.. 🙂

Unfortunately no insurance, so it’ll nedd to be nhs, which unfortunately means it’ll be a long wait. Docs informed hospital so the ball is rolling..just didnt want to risk making it any worse by biking, boarding etc..

Yip its the one in the groin.. i first noticed it when lifting something heavy. I know its coming into winter and i wont be riding as much, but need my weekly fix! 🙁

sorry, meant to add that there 2012 bikes. the sram is an 11-32.. tiagra is a 11-28. not sure ‘how much’ of a difference there is when it comes to a really steep hill… 😕

just had a ride on a defy 1 and loved the geometry.. browsing the internet and spotted this.. never used sram apex kit before but seems like a great spec for only £100 more than a 2013 defy 1.. any peeps got one or could tell me how the apex kit is?

quite a few to consider, some which i’d never heard of but which i will be looking at. The norrona bitihorn dr1, OMM kamlieka, gorebike alp 2 and the endura stealth are the ones i’ll be looking at..leaning towards the OMM but some reviews questioned its longevity when wearing packs.. 😕

Liking the look of the OMM Kamlieka gear.. they do a nice jacket which looks as though it is helmet compatible..i am having the same dilemma..

ended up getting the helly hanson merino/lira mix top. expensive but a great bit of kit. I sweat a lot..and the top wicked it all away and left me dry inside and still warm. 😀
