Oh, and tell Matt that purple and green is not a good look

Quite possibly the shock stroke reducer has come loose inside the shock

Fox float fluid is a lot thicker than the rs stuff so maybe not

Spotted a very stealthy black one under Dirt’s Steve Jones earlier this week, looks very nice.

A couple of the local boys have tried Jake at Sprung and all said good things

I’ve just ordered a Madison addict for the same purpose, can be had for £90 if you shop around.

The problem with the XL frames is the height of the seat tower and head tube. I’m 5’10” and rode a large with the stem slammed. Standover is fine but the front might be a bit high and it would be close with getting a dropper on there.

It’s not great, if I was buying again I’d splash the extra on a reverb. It does the job though, especially on a winter hardtail

I’m surprised Alex and Big H haven’t spotted this thread. Both have the new stache and love them

I’d double check to make sure I haven’t got my wires crossed, but pretty it’s this weekend

I’ve got the 29er version, I like it. As for the 650 one (if that’s what you’re looking at) then no idea. Sorry!

I will say that the Nukeproof dropper isn’t great if it’s one of the ones you’re looking at as I’ve got one on my hardtail. It’s a loooong post so needs lots of it in the frame and it’s painfully slow to return

I paid well under 1k for my vitus escarpe from crc if they’ve got any left.

Edit the stumpy evo is a great bike too, but you’re still limited on shocks

No idea on peaks conditions but hasn’t CYB got an enduro on this weekend? Not sure if it’ll all be open

Trails will be busy, I’d say the biggest problem will be getting a brew in the cafe as it’s painfully slow service most of the time.

I’ve got an older maxx d and diabolo, both 3/4 years old and work perfectly. I’m often out 2 or 3 times a week too. The Mrs has the new versions, both much brighter with similar burn times. Not 100% convinced on the new touch pad instead of a button on the maxx d, the old style button is much easier to use. Although, if you put it on automatic you don’t need to use it much.

The handle bar brackets are a touch fragile, I’ve broken 4 I think but that’s over about 6 years

Billy’s has now been cleared top and bottom. Dead end down is blocked, Rhys’ has has the boar through it, Bridget’s is clearish but will be a bog. Top of bunker is trashed, not sure about the top of the ridge. Bottom of both are ok. Widowmaker is blocked (I think). 3s up and black are clear. Stuff on the redbrook side is unaffected at the moment

A fair chunk of the Staunton stuff isn’t running due to FC work at the moment

I’ve read most of those… Some mentioned are very tenuous from what I can remember. Skip “from a buick 8”, not great and doesn’t add anything. “the mist” is a great short story, but unrelated so I wouldn’t buy the collection just for it.

Cheers Gary, doesn’t look like they’re being swamped with entries!

Postierich, where did you see how many have entered? I’m tempted to enter but not if I’m the only one!

Just built up a large to replace my stumpjumper evo. Ive not ridden it yet as I’ve been riding my hardtail in the mud but it’s a touch longer than the stumpy so not too short. It does feel a bit heavier. There’s very little information on them

Pretty sure it’s a pf30, mine is although it’s the 2014 model which I’m sure is the same. I used a wheels manufacturing adapter so I could run sram gxp cranks. They do one that fits Shimano cranks as well. If not all manufacturers make cranks for pf30 bottom brackets

Alex, isn’t the stock answer just to get Mat to do it?

As for what can go wrong, I’m building up a new frame next week so I’ll let you know then!

What stato said up there. To get the cranks off you don’t need to touch the outer cap, just undo the inner bolt

Local trails are currently bogs. I was still going to head out but the heavy rain from the moment I got home put an end to that

I had this happen with mine. They eventually went back to Fisher and were replaced under warranty

I’m not sure if the standard fox air spacers fit, Loco added one to mine but I think it’s a modified one.

I think my monarch plus came with 3 fitted and no spares.

It’s not the best, but options are limited for the stumpjumper (and camber I’d guess). More aftermarket options are available for the enduro but no-one seems interested the shorter travel specialized bikes. I did look around for a custom built fox, but it’s an expensive option unless you can find a cheap shock to have converted

I’ve swapped to a monarch plus on my stumpy evo from the basic fox. It’s a big improvement performance wise but not perfect. I’m under 13 stone but needed to fit all 6 bands to get enough support. Plus the first one developed visible wear on the shaft in the first couple of weeks, virtually no lubrication in it. Eventually replaced under warranty. The replacement is currently back at Fisher, as when I did it’s first seal change I found the ribs that held one of the seals in place was so bent I couldn’t fit the new seal. Third time lucky I hope

You should be able to fit a direct mount chain ring, just remove the spider by undoing the 3 bolts on the back of it. The direct mount ring then bolts on in its place. As for offset, I’ve no idea.

Oh, and narrow / wide rings have even numbers of teeth

29 lardman. Swampthings are an awesome tyre but not in 29. I’d forgotten about the hillbilly, isn’t it fantastically heavy though? I’ll have a look…. 1030g, that’s 100g heavier than a magic mary!

I’d like to avoid a 2 inch tyre if I can, plenty of rocks as well as mud around here.

Cheers. A mate runs a mm and shorty on his bike, and the difference is quarter of an inch measured on the same rim. Still probably too tight. I ran a storm last year, ok but needed high pressures due to the local rocks and roots and to stop them rolling on the rim. I’ll have a look at the beaver, if not it’ll probably be another storm

Dirt had a review in the mag a while back, seemed to like it.
