Sorry for a hijack, but the on one smorgasbord is on offer for £12.50ish… 2 quick questions, are they tubeless ready and is it worth a swap from the spesh eskars I’m running at the moment?

Spesh deviant is fairly well ventilated for a full face, I like mine

Been runing switch hubs on stans rims. Mine were tensioned fine, they’ve been re-done now but after 2 years riding I think that’s ok. bearing quality seems to vary from what’s said on here, both of mine are on their second set but the rear is now pretty shot again. Mind you, it has been a little wet lately…

The only problem I had was the freehub exploded last summer, sheared into 3 pieces around where the pawls sit resulting in a walk home. All replaced FOC but a pain at the time.

5.10 Karvers here, although I’m not sure if you can still get them? Sealskins underneath as well. 5.10 also do a fairly weatherproof boot, it’s marketed as something for digging in (I think) but it’s got a bike sole on it. Mate has a pair, and while they do look very frankenboot they do keep his feet warm and dry.

Edit – they’re called the Diddie Schneider. Also the Karver’s are still listed, which is strange as the UK importers told me they’d been discontinued…

Scott – might do, not sure yet

I find no difference at all in my speed over the ground/what I can ride, if im riding my full suss over my hardtail.

Yeah, you’re just slow everywhere Scott :D

Long Mynd should be good, pretty much always dry under wheel as well!

The rampage looks very dh, would it be too hot to race in?

I’ll look into the rampage as well then. Anyone know about the bell sanction?

I’d looked at the urge, I’m sure someone said it was too small even in the largest size. I’ll try one in blazing bikes next time I’m passing though. The troy lee is a bit overkill for riding enduro isn’t it?

    Anyone?

I ride flats there, but that’s cos I ride flats everywhere! If you’re not used to them don’t change for the day, as keeping your feet on them is a challenge at times over the rougher sections. As stated above, there are only 2 drops of note and they’re on GBU and I’ve seen both of them go on a trail bike. We do the dh runs as a night ride and it’s all good. There are also some mellower trails off to the right hand side of the hill (from the top) which are great on a trail bike and tend to be much quieter

I’ll be riding later this afternoon around a snowy Bringewood, can’t wait.

What tyres for riding in snow?

The geax datura wouldn’t be a bad buy, tubeless (well, some are) well grippy in the mud and have a tough sidewall. Not expensive either from on one.

Cheers Hobster, I’ll drop them a line.

Slippers in winter, flip flops in summer. Job done :-)

I’d be interested in heading out round there again if anyone’s riding, I work in hereford but haven’t ridden there in years. It would make a change from the mud around Ludlow where I usually ride, at least I’d get to ride some different mud! As said above, most of westwoods (including all the dh runs as far as I could see) have now gone.

Lost my dad October 27th, 3 days after my birthday. At the outlaws today, first family Christmas without him tomorrow. It’s gonna be a strange day

Blazing Bikes at marshbrook were done over not that long ago as well. I hope Pearce and Epic cycles have checked their security…

Freeminers (old FODCA) holds up well. Verderers will be wet, there’s one traverse which is really muddy at the mo but the rest is fine.

I’m at work… Made it out on the bike last night, which looks like it was a good move as it’s lashing down here  (Hereford / South Shropshire)
Will be on the mulled cider and then in the pub tonight though :D

I may be being thick, but has a Zee mech got the capacity for a wide range 10 speed cassette? I’ve just trashed an xt one and need a replacement, if it works it’ll be perfect…

I was 40 at end of October, and the world didn’t end. I do look at things differently, but as my dad died 3 days later that might also explain it. :(
most of my friends over 40 reckon it makes no odds, so knock yourself out with whatever takes your fancy. Or knock one out if that does

Doro make some good ones, usually hearing aid compatable too. Cobolt systems do one with big buttons and a programmable emergency button for £50- https://secure.vvhosting.co.uk/cobolt/store/eric_viewItem.asp?idProduct=353

Edit – what he said above

It’s holding up pretty well, rode there last week. Some of the climbs / linking sections are pretty muddy but the best bits are riding fine. You can easily link some of the dh runs into the xc route as well. Eastridge is good fun as well while you’re in the area, not sure what state it’s in tho

Who needs advertising with reviews like these? I don’t think any other brands manage. Friends kids have islabikes and all love ’em. The owners are also my neighbors and bloody fast on a bike…

Swampthings are great, if a little slow. Nowhere has em tho, unless you want 2.5 dual ply supertacky. And if you want to ride those uphill, you’re a) incredibly fit and I salute you, or b) you’re a muppet and you’ll die before you get to the top of the first hill. Not tubeless either. trail rakers are again slow, but tubeless versions are available. Superb in proper mud and steep stuuf, a bit nervous on roots and rocks though. I’m now running a Geax datura from on one and first impressions are very good. Not light but look pretty tough and coped well with a mix of trail surfaces.

E13 make a nice dm top guide, got one on my stumpy.can’t remember what its called tho which isn’t helpful….

Running 1*10 for a while,xt shadow plus rear mech and e13 top guide only. No dropped chain so far,and I have been trying :D the biggest difference was probably using a dedicated single front ring (hope) instead of a ramped one.

Cheers for the advice one and all, I’ll have a browse and look. Ideally something cheap as it won’t be used once I get home! The country does look stunning, 28 degrees and sunny at the mo…

HTC one x with 900 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mg data (or sommat), £31 0n Vodaphone, but got £90 odd cash back effectively bringing it down to £26 pm with free phone. Did it with Phones 4 U tho.

Tried my local dealer, apparently Spesh aren’t selling them as a spare. The only way you can get one is as a replacement if you break yours. I got the Bionicon one instead.

No problems with my KS remote. It got a bit sticky but I changed the cable in about 10 minutes. I’ve ridden one without the remote, and found I didn’t use it as much as I didn’t want to take my hands off the bars! I’ve also watched a mate have a comedy crash through trying to drop a post using a saddle mounted lever. Most amusing (for me). Bizarely he’s testing the new KS in Dirt this month…

I’ll second the comment above. They’re great lights, but I’d rather have a helmet mounted light if I had only one light. A diabolo and piggy back battery would be my choice for a single unit. I’ve got an old MaxxD and a Diabolo for the lid and both are brilliant, but I’d rather do without the MaxxD than the Diabolo. How about getting a cheaper bar light and backing it up with a Joystick?
