    Now testing the Charge up time but suspect it will take about 6 hours 30 minutes
    its real hard watching the red light dont know if I will stay awake

    OK times up
    it would seem my calcs are not too far out as the battery protection kicked in at 6 volts which is sound and what is to be expected as the cells dont like to go below 3 volts each .

    total runtime was 4 hours 38 minutes on the level three or Hi as I have called it

    so it would be fair to go for the other approx run times .

    I have Spoken to Smudge and he did just quote the Manufacturers blurb and he is going to email them and point out their wrong calculations .

    having said that they are still pretty good runtimes for the light output .
    one thing not to forget though is the runtimes will be quite a bit shorter when the temp drops to freezing and below and could be 20% less when the battery is very cold .

    time seems to have gone into slow motion
    2 hours in and battery at 7.3 volts

    Battery started at 8.4 volts. And one hour in its 7.7 volts

    Boost dimming is heat protection as there is no way a light this small can keep cool at the higher drive currents

    There the on paper lumens if you ran 3 amps through the leds and could keep them below 25 c
    wish I could find some of these super XMLs @ 1400 lumens but it seem the less you pay the more you get in the lupins

    trout
    Free Member

    As a rough guide, how would these number equate to lumen output?

    med = 0.960 amps = nearly 7 hours
    hi = 1.40 amps = 4 hrs 45 mins
    boost 1.85 amps = 3 hrs 30 mins

    Thats difficult to work out as there will be losses in the driver
    it would need a meter in between the driver and the leds to see what amps the leds were getting .

    But if they were getting the same amps as the power draw then approx lumens would be

    low about 300
    med about 800
    hi about 1000
    boost about 1400

    But they may be getting more amps while the battery is full and when it gets to about 6.6 volts when it reaches the same voltage as the leds this will be when it dims a little

    not yet got him any welding goggles

    might be my power supply is fibbing or my maths is way out
    so light went on at 16.00 on level 3 will report back when it goes out if I am still awake then

    Steve will have a look and report back .

    Nothing bad to report on opening it up .

    in the front it looks neat and a tidy oring seal to the front bezel
    plenty of thermal glue in evidence .

    in through the back door and the same oring seal so a good degree of damp proofing that end .
    very tight for space and everything looks tidy and well done

    the main weak spot on the bastids is the cable entry and one I was interested to see how waterproof and I was pleasantly surprised to see it had a good strain relief and an extra rubber seal too

    so it should be rainproof from the evidence I have seen though I wouldnt go swimming with it .

    It appears to be quite well made and I am struggling to find fault with it .

    I would do away with the ridiculous strobe mode ( at least it is separate from the main user interface) and put a switchable hi power red led on the rear as thisisnotaspoon suggests

    Power draw from a 7.4 volt supply is and approx runtimes
    low = 0.280 amps = 23 hours
    med = 0.960 amps = nearly 7 hours
    hi = 1.40 amps = 4 hrs 45 mins
    boost 1.85 amps = 3 hrs 30 mins

    the battery status changed to blue at 7 volts in the battery
    and to red at 6.4 volts
    started to flash at 5.7 volts I would expext the battery protection circuit to kick in and shut down the light .

    I did notice a drop in the light output when the red status kicked in and the meter backed this up with the amps .

    Update
    For the Maths on full it is drawing just under 2 amps so the three hour runtime should be doable

    Immediate problem sorted I have swapped the back brake with the one off the FS bike .

    Might be time to get a new one. As this one is pretty old now .

    Of the four brakes I have. 3 are Tech M4. And the bad one is an old Mono M4
    Be a good time to have all four matching

    Thanks Coatesy will do if stuck

    currently trying
    Have pumped the pistons out as far as I dare and given them a good clean
    and a smidge of brake fluid now trying the zip tie the lever back for a while and see it that improves it while I order some new seals .

    trout
    Free Member

    Possibly you have altered the hardness of the seals or the silicone allowed the pistons to creep through then the seals settled with the pistons too far out.

    Globalti that appears to be what is happening now its daylight and I can see the action close up the pistons are coming out and not returning
    and after a few pumps of the lever they are holding the disk quite hard
    so as an attempt to spin the wheel gets a quarter turn if that .

    It would appear I have buggered the seals good and proper . :cry:

    What we don’t hear about is the cheap ones that do fail or very rarely whether this is cos the users can’t be arsed
    I don’t know .

    But a few of my customers this year have come over from the cheap side due to failures
    One had four fail @ £25 each so lost £100

    The feedback does seem to be good as reading this thread you would be sure they are bullet proof .

    What no one has commented on is no one knows the quality of the cells in the cheapies batteries though I guess Smudge. Knows

    Yes my stuff is in the expensive side of lights but I can tell you it’s certainly not going to make me rich
    And sales are pretty down on last years by this time

    Also there is nothing changing in the led front that would keep me at the cutting edge they seem to have just about peaked with tiny improvements being announced but nothing amazing.

    Fortunately ther are still some folks with a bit of cash to spend and want something completely different to the run of the mill stuff Hence the Spider which is doing pretty good on the sales

    torro rosso will et him past and the back end teams will be easy pickings

    But then there’s. crash kid Roman kamikaze kid , and then he has to get past the faster cars at the front end and that won’t be easy as the Rb is not quick on the straights unless they can change top gear

    Might add a bit of spice to a boring venue .

    And Massa is not prone to letting folks past easy

    don’t remember owt about left hand thread .
    But do remember I had to use a stupid amount of force

    I made a clamp of wood to squash in the vice to hold the body and it was a struggle I nearly gave up

    I do have one in to replace the batteries in so will check after the F1 Quali this afternoon

    Donk Yes will do send in your hope and I will hop it up to this spec
    but it would mean a new battery

    First ride with it this morning with the Lumen hound

    and ran it for 10 minutes at Paddy speed without it dimming down though it was warm to touch and dimmed within 2 minutes of stopping

    if I was a worker at exposure or lupine ans most other light manufacturers I would also be a tad worried
    But are they manufacturers or just resellers of chinese lights that have come back and bitten them on the arse

    trout
    Free Member

    Yes it seems that Exposure use a very strong threadlok sealant
    Wear a pair of marigolds and get the hair dryer or even better hot air paint stripper
    Apply heat to ouch hot and the gloves will give you the grip to start the unscrewing
