I just got one of these X2 lights just to see what all the fuss is about

will be giving it a going over in the next few days but first impression
is its not that bright compared to what 2 XMLs can deliver

It got hot very hot on full and did not dim down at all I had to switch it off when it was too hot .

the battery weighs quite a bit less than a similar battery 7.4 volt 4.4 amp hour pack from Smudge so would explain the low runtimes some are reporting .

some comparison beam shots to follow soon

To put that in perspective here is a beam shot at 280 metres for a 7000 lumen lamp I built with special Aspherical lenses

    here is google earths measurements

    and here is the beamshot

My understanding is the battery is 7.4 v
so you stand a good chance of hurting it with 11.1 v

yes the cheaper driver boards do not have any reverse polarity protection
so again a good chance of destruction
you need a multimeter and check polarity of the battery .

XPG leds and Regina reflectors are the weapons of choice

    Photos here

    AY-Upgrade

The older ones dont have a driver just a current limiting resister inside which sometimes burns out and is a sod to get at .

the new XPG-2 brightest ones are about £4 each

This has probably come about because since june you now need a permit for the keighley waste transfer site so folks from out of the area dont take their waste there .
you need to take your council tax bill in when you apply to prove you are a resident.

Email me for payment details and address to send it to
got a bit of a backlog at the moment for some strange reason 8O
be about 1/3 days from me getting the lights to turn them around

yes the Hid can be done and used to be a popular housing for the diy ers

however it is quite a time taking conversion so making it a bit costly
I can though do the bits in to some housings I have left over from the Dominator run which would make my job a lot easier and cheaper for you .
    Mail me for more details

Probably not worth the full monty as big battery and charger would add about £90

Cant say in actual numbers but its a big improvement
yes I look after my workmanship and parts fitted
cant warranty stock battery and charger

Do you do upgrades for the Hope Vision 4?
    Thanks

Yes can do them no problem
extra £15 over the V2 using its stock battery

or can make it a real monster and with a 15 volt battery an english lumen count of 3600 on full
    or chinese lumens 8000

Spoke to the post office owner this morning, he said that they all had to go on a dangerous items course, and that any li-ion batteries have to be actually connected to the lights or whatever they are powering.

    Like yes thats clever
hi-powered led light connected to the battery in a bubblewrapped parcel
light accidentally switches on and heats up way past safe and sets the parcel alight .
    Very safe .

Who is delivering all these cheap chinese lights to the users?

    Hi Gavin

Just searched the emails was it this one in August

    Hi Chris
i was wondering if you can help, i loaned a mate my Mini and when he has had it he has burst the cable on my battery:( ( i have removed the extra sealing and can see where the cable has been damaged) so was wondering if you could replace the cable and then re dip the battery?
Also wondering if any of the newer led’s could be fitted to improve its output?
Let me know what you can do and how much etc.

Just put in an order for some XPG-S2 leds so will be able to upgrade it in a couple of weeks
and should be able to do the battery at the same time though be careful to label the package up properly with a Li ion label like this one with your phone number on

    Reggie
if your battery is still giving you good runtimes then it should be good for the new leds and driver you may lose 20 mins on full after but lower powers will also be brighter than the stock on its full

yes the threshold can be adjusted easily by your self with a few clicks and presses.

But it is there to protect the leds and driver from overheat so I would not go above 70c ( I think it could be set at 50 or 60 early ones I set to 50 later to 60 )

though they can take some abuse as this Lib proves

got hot enough to boil beer and melted the lenses onto the leds but still kept working :-)

Tomaso Bastids sorry to hear bout your loss can lend you a light if you have a bike to ride .

Yes I am in the workshop today doing 5 of the vision 2 s
so yes still doing them .

though you do need to know if the battery is still good as it then becomes quite expensive if a new one is needed .

40 years of driving with no crashes but still learning to drive
as you see something new all the time .
a few close shaves mind .

there seems to be a perception that you can insult a mans wife , Kill his first born , but you cant criticize his driving .

We have a few long drives each year to go biking and who ever is driving is quite happy for the other 4 to look out for stuff and mention if anything happens in front rather than be scared to say owt .

Hope IMHO lost the plot years ago and just kept plodding along with the old tech .
had they seen the light when I started popping 2 MXLs into their Vision 2 lights they had an easy path to a great lightset .
see the similarities to the modern Chinese twin XML stuff

The R8 is over complex , overpriced to sell shedloads they need to go keep it simple and small also the R4 was an underpowered cock up

Just maybe with the volatile nature of Li ions Smudge doesn’t want folks soldering his packs together and the possible bad effects it could have on the user .

I have known Mark as a friend and battery supplier for years and Batteries are his livelihood so he will have an excellent reason for removing a product from his lineup

PW you do the guy a disservice
and by the way Royal mail will no longer take just Lithium batteries and if they find them in a package will dispose of them I know this from bitter experience

I am guessing you mean Fermenting in the keg to carbonate
May be a leak and all the CO2 has escaped
you could try adding another 70 grams of sugar for a 2nd 2nd ferment
mate had this happen and it worked a treat he did put a new washer on the keg
