my office varies hugely from day to day
Flooring installer most homes are spotless but then we get the filthy gits .

doing Bathroom floors can be bad if lots of males live in house .
and you would not believe what some kitchens are like .

then we get the replace carpets in the bedrooms of old folks homes 8O

some figures from a recent SMASH ( Single malt and single hop ) 23 ltrs
    or about 40 pints

5 kilos of Marris Otter malt if bought from a homebrew shop would have been £1.60 per KG = £8
100 grams of East kent golding hops £3.00
    Nottingham yeast £2.50
    total £13.50
    or £0.33 per pint

But if you can get a few mates interested and do group buys this is what it cost me
    5 kilos MO @ £0.72 per kg = £3.60
    100 gms EKG hops @ £1 = £1
    Nottingham yeast = £2.5
    total = £7.10
    or .18p per pint

plus energy costs I use Propane for the boil and reckon on about £2 per brew

if on a water meter then get a 12v solar pump and use water from a rainwater butt and recirculate it through the chiller .

though you do get about 25 litrs of hot water which I use for the washing up after so using the heat 2 times.

It was only meant to be 11% but ended up at that though not yet got an ending gravity.

cheapest way for fermenting temp control is a large builders bucket and a fishtank heater surround the fermenter with water and set the thermostat on the fishtank heater and leave somewhere that is not too hot

second way is a insulated cupboard and a 50 watt greenhouse heater controled by a STC digital controller

    STC 1000

Then a more complex way is a fridge with heater and STC 1000 to heat and cool if needed

My friend once asked to borrow my lump hammer
    Why I asked
To smash my cast iron bath up on the forth floor .
so I says if we get it down can we have it
he says yes but no damage to the stairwell on the way down .
the bath in question is a clawfoot and a rather nice wedgewood paint job .
so three of us get it down his stairs and into the back yard
then off to get the van .
we were gone 10 mins and some bastid nicked it while we were away

Most fitters wont take it for some stupid reason.

Because it costs him to tip it and he also needs a waste licence
thus putting up the fitting charge to the customer .

householder can take it for free to the waste centre

Here is my experience on a Fatty
arrived march last year with 1×10 and was told by a few folks that you dont need a granny ring .
so rode it until end of august with not too many issues until a group ride in swaledale and really struggled on the ups
This was 1 week before I was due to take it to the Pyrenees so had a panic purchase of a double front and shifter and fitted just in time .

The granny does not get a lot of use but it sure is nice to have it .

I too have a Puffin on the way and will be fitting the single chainset from the fatty and hopefully one of those 42 rear sprockets

Not going to get into a slanging match here but assuming a single run of say 3 metres of units that would be a saving of 1.5 sq metres of wood
lets say £40 per sq mts so £60 saved

40 sq mtrs is quite a large kitchen so I am guessing there will be more kitchen units than that .

I dont have cash to chuck away so there would be no expensive flooring under my units .
Yes a piece of cake to fit when the room is empty then along comes the kitchen fitter and drops his hammer on the new floor or drags a unit into position , Ooops sorry I have just buggered your nice new floor

Been there seen it happen more times than it should .

I can give you a quote for fitting only or for some nice woods and fitting .

As DD says engineered be better in a kitchen specially if you are doing the brewing in there also .
Just done a nice unfinished engineered oak floor and oiled with osmo oil
    looked great
