Should have mentioned that I want something with buttons. I’m fed up of having a phone that requires both hands and my full attention to use.

The R32 has the same suspension geometry & arms as an S3 or TT 4WD. The Leon Cupra R got the front half of it.

Basically you get better suspension geometry on an R32 (longer front suspension arms, different front hub carrier, independent rear suspension rather than torsion beam), so you can go round corners faster.

4motions might get the rear half of the setup, or something derived from the old Golf Syncro semi trailing arm system. Netherless, ultimately it’s the front suspension that provides the lion’s share of cornering grip in a Golf.

Still got the 8880 supercar in bits in a carrier bag! Tempted to put it back together.

Got most of the bits of 8862 Digger too, but it wasn’t that cool in practice – really needed a powered air pump.

If you doubt the above about custard get some and stir it quickly, now get some cornflour slowly mix in a little water until you have no lumps now stir it quickly.

Custard powder is just cornflour and colouring IIRC.

There’s a journal article where they mention the density of custard if you Google – it’s over 1g/cm^3, so custard’s denser than water.

    It’s also thicker.

I really don’t comprehend how Islam has transmogrified into a race.

As I understand it, being Jews are an ethnic group as well as a religion. If you stop practising Judaism, you’re still Jewish.

If you’re a Muslim, it’s a different situation – there’s no ethnic group to it, in fact, it’s fair to say it’s racially inclusive – a guy in Iran IIRC was on trial recently for having an afro, which was deemed to be a decadent African-American import. The ruling went in his favour on the basis that there are a large number of African-American muslims.

The charge is “Inciting Racial hatred”. That doesn’t mean that what they actually did was racist, but presumably, a Moslem might see that video and decide they hate the British as a result.

If that is the position taken, then it would set an odd precedent.

As far as I’m aware, Islam is a religion, not a race, so from the text above, no.

On the other hand, they might have been burning the Koran and using racist language at the same time…

Honestly, in a B&B or self catering accommodation, so many get the basics wrong.

    Enough radiators to dry kit.
    Enough heat.
    A powerful shower.
I’ve no interest in hoiking sleeping bags about or making up a bed.

Some kind of service whereby you could have the fridge stocked would be wicked. Some places do “gourmet” packages, but to be honest, I’m not that bothered about spending £50 on champers and fancy cheese. It would just be nice to be able to arrive somewhere and there be a few beers, a loaf of bread, bacon and eggs etc. Particularly if it’s the sort of place people will tour to.

Or at the very least, the numbers of all the local takeaways 😆

Too many black bits, and the graphics are gash. And the frame’s too small, so the stem ends up a bit over-long, the same with the seatpost. I think even if the colour scheme were lovely, it’d still look wrong purely from a proportions point of view.

I’d say having bats fly where you’re riding isn’t really an issue eh?

I’m not suggesting that a large number of bats are flying around giving people rabies, but that it’s worth knowing that if you do get bitten, you need to get a rabies jab, because you cannot wait for symptoms.

Several years ago, a licensed bat worker (LBW) in Scotland, as detailed in the links posted by someone else above.

The key thing to bear in mind is that LBWs are as a rule vaccinated against rabies, are well aware of the risks, understand a decent amount of bat ecology and behaviour and only ever handle bats whilst wearing gloves, so the risk is massively reduced for them. The vast majority of cases of a bat being handled will be by a bat worker, and even then, handling bats is seen as a last resort due to animal welfare issues.

Joe Public who’s got a bat caught in his lid vent is a very different matter – there’s a far greater risk of being bitten.

Very little chance of rabies being an issue to anyone if they don’t handle bats.

I used to do bat related things for a living. Daubentons are the species known to carry rabies, but they mainly feed over water, rather than foraging in woodland.

In any case, you shouldn’t handle bats unless absolutely necessary (risk of rabies and it’s against the law to mither them), and if you’re bitten, you MUST get a rabies jab as soon as possible, even if you are already vaccinated against rabies.

As soon as you’re showing symptoms of rabies, it’s too late, you’re a dead man.

Would the UK be hit tactically by a couple hundred warheads or would be just be wiped out completely?

I don’t think anyone ever bothered with getting things to the “VAPOURISE EVERYTHING!!!!” stage.

Major cities, military bases and industrial areas would be hit, on the basis that the country’s effectively put out of action by that point. Everyone else can die slowly.

Very pragmatic, these military planners 😐 . Same reason they use 5.56 calibre these days – the older calibres would go straight through people on a fairly regular basis, often killing outright. 5.56 tends to bounce around in the torso, so you end up with more badly injured casualties. Casualties are a good thing, as you’ve then got 2 more men tending to the casualty, plus even more men operating and providing logistics for a field hospital, or he has to be ignored and that saps morale.

There was an interesting documentary with Robert McNamara on a few years back. He was an expert at the appliance of science to killing – he was on about how Japanese houses are made of wood, and his plans to use incendiary bombs wiped out more than the atomic bombs did…

Cost me £85 in total (including two spare 18650s and charger) but well worth it IMO. I reckon it’ll last many years.

I’d end up losing it 😆

IMO forget council – so many council houses have been sold that in most areas there is a huge shortage of council accommodation especially decent stuff. You will be a low priority and may never get to teh top of the list.

TJ, that’s a load of horseshit. The guy’s got kids and an income below the national average (and almost certainly way below Cambridge’s average). It costs nothing to have a go.

I’ve just twigged who you are. Get a decent lawyer and get some money off her. You might not think it’s right at the moment, but you need to do the best for yourself, and by extension, your kids.

Council list and right to buy are my initial thoughts on what your strategy should be. You have kids so you get pushed a little way up the list. You can be pushed right to the top if you’re willing to make yourself technically homeless, but this will entail staying in some form of temporary accommodation.

Council rents are below market rate in my opinion, and when you right to buy you get a discount on the basis of how long you’ve been renting it, so the rent isn’t “dead money” as such. If you improve the house and can evidence that, it can also further reduce the purchase price to you (ie, if you move into a slightly scuzzy place and do it up).

As the price is fairly low on right to buy, you can save for a deposit, and with a low price may also be able to aim for a short mortgage, which saves you a lot of money in interest.

The other option is to find a way of earning more, but it’s shite out there at the moment. I’m looking at the potential to be earning less after doing a pretty sought after Master’s degree than I was before it!

if anyone actually needed that much bhp.

Piss off with your high horse.

Do we need bikes imported from Taiwan that cost a bomb? Do we need several sets of tyres each? Do we need to stick bikes in the back of cars and take them to places where the riding’s better? Do we need central heating? Do we need supermarkets and refridgerated food? Couldn’t we all just live the life of Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall and live off dock leaves and placentas? Do any of us really need cars? Couldn’t most of us telecommute, and everyone except tradesmen be restricted to kei cars?

Mat’s a smug git on occasion, but he is correct in that BMW do spectacularly well at producing cars with good fuel consumption (and therefore emissions) and performance.

So long as we live in a market economy, people like him will be buying 335Ds and telling us all about how great the car is 😆

    130g/km CO2.

The sole purpose of the car is its emissions. There’s a fear that we’re moving towards regulating for the average CO2 emissions of either the entire vehicle fleet in the EU, or the average emissions of manufacturers ranges.

That’s why you’re seeing 2WD Range Rovers, and things like the Aston Martin Cygnet. The manufacturers want to move and get the marketing in place before they’re shoved.

What was the name of the dreaming labrador in Neighbours?

An actor appeared in both the Sopranos (as the owner of a sporting goods store) and Terminator 2. What character did he play in Terminator 2? (Switch this question round to make it much harder!)

    What’s Tony Soprano’s wife called?

What does Hank Hill from King of the Hill do for a living? (easy)

What does Boomhauer do from King of the Hill for a living? (hard!)

Who is the only remaining Coronation Street character who was in the original programme?

What’s the waiter called in Benidorm? (It’s not potato!)

Who was the third presenter of Top Gear alongside Clarkson and Hammond before James May?

What is the name of Larry David’s agent in Curb your enthusiasm?

    What is Bergerac’s first name?

The light was probably attracting insects, which in turn were attracting bats.

I doubt they were getting confused as they can see (contrary to the saying) and they can modify their echolocation to increase the level of detail to very high levels.

A lot of students will move every 12 months or so. Most phone providers lock you into a 12 month contract.

Personally, I’d see if dongles are a decent price / rate, as paying for everything then trying to divvy up the bills is a pain in the arse. Particularly if you’re forgetful.

I suspect what “Big Society” actually means is expansion of the “Third Sector” as an arm’s length operation of the state. But that sounds suspiciously like something Labour would do, so it’s got another name. 😉

Do you think in a parallel universe there is a car forum where members obsess about mountain bikes?

There are fairly regular threads about mountain bikes on the forum of a owner’s club I visit…

    tron

    Do they?

Most are so broadly worded as to preclude you from working at all. Even if they aren’t, the major competitors are likely to be the major employers in the sector.

The only time anyone manages to make that kind of thing stick is when the leaver has done something daft, and taken a copy of the contact list. Then you’re pinching the company’s data, and it’s a different matter.

    Stop poking the lefties. 😆

Almost every economist who’s ever written anything worth reading addresses efficiency and welfare. It’s a fairly recent thing for people to be saying “This bloke is really rich. That’s dead good for you poor folk that is.”

The broad socialist planned economy VS capitalism arguments are dead and buried. It’s only really sensible arguing about how we manage the capitalist system, until someone has some radical new ideas.

For what it’s worth, free trade and globalisation would probably be denounced by a lot of people on here, because it’s generally supported by the evil right, but to me it looks to me very much like a system that’s making us poorer in order to make the very poor in the developing world richer.
