When i was 14 in the 80s, i persuaded my Dad to buy me a tee shirt from Surrey Skates whoch said ‘i love girls with big tits’ with a Sam Fox esque lady on the front.

You just have to love them unconstitutionally. They just have to tolerate you.

If its any consolation they are genetically pre disposed to this type of behaviour and will return to normal later.

Just try not to shout even though its the hardest thing in the world to fo.

My Chinese carbon 29er that i built as an adventure / self supported bikepacking rig. King rear hub, full dynamo set us, jones loops, thomson and xtr finishing kit. So light, stiff, fast. Best bike ever and saw me achieve a heap of goals during a golden period in my life.

Sold as thought it would sit ideal here in Oz as all i would need was my gravel bike.

How wrong can you be? Everytime i see the pic on my wall with it in i feel sad.

    sonos fan here. 5 1’s and a 5.

With the kids getting seriously into music, the abulity to be able to split and pair the system so easily is a great function.

Really like the ability to add mixckoud and other internet based plaftorms.

Shame you cant stream youtube though

    Another former Sheffielder here.

From South Yorkshire to South Australia a few years ago now.

Muss the place actually though very much landed on my feet here. Great house with a pool and 10m and a clear line of sight to one of Australia’s top 10 beaches. 1000s of km of gravel, beach amd bbq life. Its clean and quiet and idyllic.

Howevwr, i miss the uk still and really miss the ease of access to Europe. if the venture i am perusing comes off in nexr year then i can see us splitting time 50/50 between hsre and Sheffield again, perhaps Hathersage.

I dont know if there is one perfect place but that makes life interesting!

England doesnt really have enough easy access ‘gravel’ to really justify it so if its your only bike you will ultimately have to compromise.

I moved to South Australia a few years back. Sold all my bikes and just kept the tripster v1 with two 700cc wheelsets. Literally 1000s of kms of proper bona fida gravel roads that i can acess from my door plus easy access to other parts of the country with even more. Thing is the gravel is so gravelly in places that mtb tyres are more appropriate.

Even with all this, having a gravel bike as your only ride is still a compromise. i feel that i now need a hardtail xc plus a gravel bike. However, as i dont have the cash for both i am moving to a platform (Bokeh) which will allow me switch between 3 wheel sets. 32c slick, 40c gravel kings and 2 inch 650b Pythons.

I now firmly believe that there isnt a one bike solution although bikes like the v2 tripster, bokeh, v4 warbird etc are getting close

Planning on doing this in March.

Mikey, will be taking the mason bokeh with 2 inch 650b tyres on it. Underbiked or should that be ok??

    The ride is 30km though!

    tripsterpete

So  you are saying that if I ride 60km I cannot feasibly achieve an average of 30kph??

    tripsterpete

What speed for the last 20km??

    tripsterpete

But surely he can still average 30kph over 30km even if he was longer than an hour.

For example if you travelled for 60km in 2 hours your average is 30kph. If you travel 15km in 30mins your average is 30kph

So if he did the last 20km st, say 100kph what would be the overall average??

Slug has broken the first rule of tradersclub which is dont draw awareness to yourself!

That said, a bit of an insight into trading from a former trader (breaking even more tradersclub rules!)

I traded for about 3 years, about 8 or 9 years ago. Specialized in whole bike splits. I started out to help me get a super bling bike up and running for as little cash as possible. However, it then changed to being out of necessity  (2x kids in nursery at the same time meant that there was a potential 800quid black hole at the end of the month). It could be profitable in terms of final return but it was anything but easy money.

Identifying a bike (typically ebay or pinkbike), negotiating a price for it, transferring the cash to an unknown if too far away to collect, waiting for it to be delivered, unboxing, checking that everything was in order, adjusting expectations if not, stripping, cleaning, pics, adverts, boxing up, taking to the post office (usually a daily or 3x weekly event) etc. Everyday between sending out a lump of cash until you saw it return was nerve-wracking. Plus with bike splits you had upwards of a dozen parts to sell, that’s a dozen adverts, a dozen parts to haggle with potential buyers over and a dozen buyers expectations to be met. So you may make several hundred back but if you worked out how much time was actually involved it was broderline worth it.

There were about ten or so hard core traders back then. Most of them knew each other of of each other (I actually met with several). You knew them as you would be frequently bidding or haggling against them for the bikes that were obvious winners.

However, that said, you could turn over a bike a fortnight relatively easily. It was around the time of the financial crisis when it funnily enough got easier as more and more people wanted good quality second hand parts at a time when more people were selling good quality full bikes.

I must have sold to well over a thousand people, 99.9% of which were happy. As long as you were very detailed in your description and pics then it was all ok. If selling on here I would check the buyers history and, if a long term user with lots of posts etc, I would even offer to send out ahead of payment in order to show good will. If there was ever any problems it was just easier to either get the part returned or give a partial refund in order to stay off the radar.

I stopped for several reasons. Firstly the kids left nursery and went to school proper. Secondly it was just too much consistent stress. Two encounters with vocal big hitters made it difficult for a while but more over, I was spending too much time doing that than riding my bike or hanging out with friends and family.

As for tax, I was always self assessment and had a friend who was an accountant who helped for the price of some bling kit and a beer. It is surprising what you can claim against. I just didn’t dare look at the final numbers!

My tuppence worth on ‘traders’: 1) if done properly then they can actually provide a good service. Bikes and their upkeep can be / is an expensive hobby and for some buying second hand will mean the difference between continuing to ride or not riding for a while. 2) Its anything but ‘free’ money and you have to be all over it in order to keep it moving forward. 3) Not being in the ‘spirit’ of this site is a different argument altogether. However, my experience was typically that as long as somebody felt that they had got a good deal (usually after a bit of haggling), it arrived in a reasonable time and was as described then they really didn’t care (and the ones that did bother to check your history knew EXACTLY who you were!).

However, always be honest and accurate with descriptions. If someone is less than happy with their purchase then be quick in sorting our a successful conclusion as its a PITA to rectify after somebody opens a thread like this.

Love my Navara and couldn’t live without a pick up (or ute as they are referred to in these parts).

Its clunky and uncomfortable in the back after a few hours but the flexibility they offer in carrying capacity is worth it.

Thinking of going Ranger next year for more comfort though!

    Decrimonalise it.

Grant states licenses to legislated cultivators.

Ensure that THC is better balanced with CBD

Allow oil form to be sold to further distance it from tobacco

Sell it cheaper than it is currently on the street. Easy to do.

    Tax it.

Reminds me of a story from my college days back in the very early 90s.

A note in the register summonses me to the Principles office. A very tall fiery lady.

Upon entry to her office ,and despite my protestations that there must have been a mistake, she proceeded to read me the riot act about being seen smoking weed in the college grounds and that I was to be suspended after speaking with my parents later that day.

All day spent crapping myself as my old man was not the type to let that go.

Afternoon came, again summonsed to the Principles office to meet my doom.

Another chap was sat in their looking ashen. Turns out he shared my very uncommon name (christian, middle and surname) and was the guy seen, not me!

Needed a spliff and lie down after that, I can tell you!!

    I am 6’2 and ride a 57cm. V1

I wish the top tube was longer but with no 59cm I didn’t want to go the whole hog and jump to the 61.

110mm redshift shock stem up from with salsa cowchippers. Rides very well.

That said I am considering a Mason Bokeh ti so may end up selling this frame and forks soon!

A friend and I rode it in 6 days. Travelled ultra light, wild camped and arrived in nice in the same clothes we left st malo in.

    Its superb.

We did make a few changes and there are a couple of places I would bypass but generally it was wonderful.

Cycling in continental Europe (and funnily enough, Wales) are two of the only things that would make me move back to the uk at the moment!!

Would do it again in a heart beat but even if I could my fitness wouldn’tet me do it that quick again!!!

    Enjoy. You lucky b*****d!!!!

Still have left calf and outside of left foot numbness at times. Sloght pelvic lift on RHS too

I ride still but have reduced power on left side. Have started Pilates and that is starting to help.

You may just have to learn to live around it

The biggest problem is the weight I have put on caused by periods of inactivity- it’ a bugger to shift when you get older!!!

I was given one of the redshift sports stems which has about 15 to 20mm of play in them.

Really rate it and I live in a place with literally thousands of miles of real gravel roads.

It just takes that buzz out of the front end with the additional compliance it haves.

Basically it like running tyres ultra ultra low but with the added benefit of not banging your rims on the dirt.

Inexpensive solution which does enough to make worth trying at least
