Ah, bugger. So it would be treated as an import if it doesn’t go on the plane with me :(

I can imagine lots of things can pop a tubeless tyre off, especially ones that struggle to stay on rims.
If you are worried stick some tubes in.

Have your tyres popped off before ?

Life is short, stop messing about with things that don’t work for you. Go back to SPD’s and just enjoy the ride.

Focus on getting a car while the weather is rubbish.

Get one in the next week or so, then plan to go somewhere exciting in it with your bike.
No point riding at the moment, its cold wet and horrible.

I’ve been riding round there for years and years all winter, way before there was a proper trail. The trails are pretty good due to the Sandy content. Basically there will always be good dry bits. Only one part of the hill gets wet in the winter, so you can skip that and crack on round the rest of the place. In fact this year Ive ridden it 5 weeks in a row and not needed to clean the bike.

When you think about it you realise you have no impact whatsoever on the disaster happening or your chance of surviving it.

So logically you should just live for today, and possibly the weekend.

So, sod paying taxes for a future you wont enjoy, fire up the Wood burner, drive to far off trail centres in your fossil burring fast car and fly off to as many holidays as you can till your credit card stops working.

I did watch some Sci-Fi movie once where the chaps on the space station were the only ones left after a nuclear war back on earth.

    They survived for a while.

    +1 for Poly.

A great route and great grub at the feed stations the rest is a waste.

So if you don’t want to go, can you just turn up looking like a nutter and get sent home right away.

Its fair to suggest we should be civic minded and do our bit, but we should also expect to be treated efficiently, not have our time wasted and be compensated for our loss.

Given just about everyone’s experience I would be looking to be excused as fast as possible.

Anyone know how we can watch the DH and XCO stuff this year – now that Red Bull are not showing it ?

I used to work for businesses where not giving a **** did help.
But once I moved away from that to a business where everyone did their best, it was much better for me mentally. Going to work was nice, the rewards were not just the pay packet. Makes a massive difference.

So if you are in a place where you are frustrated and realise its not worth giving a ****, move on. Move on fast. You don’t want to waste your time, its precious. Even work time can be good.

Recycling is a bit misleading, its not like they will turn them into new helmets.
What would they end up being used as ?

Are they not mostly polystyrene, which cannot be recycled.

More is not being made of it because the News is reporting stuff it feels will raise its ratings.
    Queuing for the Queen
    Ukraine
    Politics
    Gas prices
We are all going to freeze this winter
    Mortgage rate rises

There is a limited amount of crap the News channels can churn out till ratings drop is a possible answer.
We seem to have forgotten all the other stories that were making headline previous to the current ones, in most cases those issue have not been resolved. But the news cycle has moved on.

Perhaps a drought is too low on the shocking News needed to raise ratings list its not being discussed.
Or perhaps all the leaks have actually filled in all the underground reserves :)

When I spoke to them in person, they said they are not big enough to buy enough components to get a discount from suppliers. When you are Trek big you get a discount on forks and stuff.

Good or bad geometry, you still need to pedal it uphill.

The price of top spec bikes is pretty daft. I’ve just bought a motorcycle for less than that !

That’s a lot of money. If its just while you stop on route somewhere, then Id just thread a thick cable through the whole lot and pass it round under the car, or through the windows. Cheap and sorted. Its visible so it will put anyone off.

That alarm thing you are looking at is not visible, so it wont put anyone off. So it wont stop the scrotes or the opportunist.

PS, I’m happy to have your money and bikes to pass on to a charity.

Having it behind a paywall is going to end up with fewer viewers, so less coverage for sponsors and riders. How will the coverage improve if its not funded by an energy drink.

People new to the sport wont see it, or if they catch some some of it I don’t think they will pay for it. Most people are used to consuming this stuff for free already.

I worry that the lack of income / viewers will result in the teams spending less, or being asked to pay more to race, the race venues will be charged more.

Sure Red Bull could have been better, but it was free, so its pretty hard to moan about it.

Give up, you will either force them to wear one while you watch, or put them off riding a bike.

So he tested positive for Zeranol, which as pointed out above, is not allowed in EU beef production. Seems like he will find it hard to come up with a reason its in his body “accidentally” then.

Whatever the outcome, this will just add to the general feeling that to win at this level you have to beat the cheaters. So to do that you have to cheat.

He pulled out of two races recently, I wonder if that’s because he know he was “over the limit”.

Its probably only a crime when its advertised for sale, so I reckon anyone you report it to will be unable to do anything with the information.

A good community copper would hopefully take the info and go and check out the rest of the cars legality in the spirit of community policing. But fat chance of that happening.

Its odd how we all would hate buying a clocked car, but lots of posters think you are odd for suggesting that you report it. In some societies your behaviour is normal and expected. British people are odd about this sort of thing.

Personally if I see or suspect a crime I’m all for telling the police. I’ve rung up to inform them of a suspected fly tipper – I reckon they did nothing about it, the crap was left in the layby when I went past later that day.

So carry on with your snooping, just don’t tell anyone you do that as a hobby. But do come back to let us know what the police think of your snooping.

Multi21 – I read it as the g force achieved in the stop, so the higher number means higher g force and the highest numbers in the worst conditions were with no ABS. But I could be wrong.

These bikes had a more modern version of ABS than my KTM. So they were better, but sometimes having software not allow the wheel to stop on a loose surface will not help.

That video was interesting. Basically as a good / advanced rider he was able to stop with NO ABS better than with ABS on the worst off road surface. By a margin of 17%.

K, no. But when I raced motorcycle enduros I would feel the grip and basically moderate the lever/pedal action so it went from lock to open / skid to not skid. Like min ABS.

After years of riding / competing you could do this pretty well. Sure, it would go wrong sometimes, as it does on a mountain bike.

That was fine on the various off road motorbikes I had/currently have. They are lighter competition machines (Honda XR400, CRM250, KX250, KTM525, Montessa 250, Bultaco 250) so you can do that sort of the same as you can on your mountain bike.

But is a different story on my KTM 990 Adventure bike, which weighs over 200kg.

I’ve experimented off road with my KTM motorcycle (which has off-road tyre fitted), tried it on gravel/dirt/crap with the ABS on and with it turned off.

Switched On, the bike failed to stop. Switched Off, it stopped, just like a mountain bike currently does off road.

Tjagain – I meant offroad bikes. My KTM Adventure has ABS, but you turn it off when off road as it cant cope off road. Basically it fails to stop the bike and keeps the wheel turning. Its faster to actually lock up and skid a bit when off road. Thats why they fit a switch to let you deactivate it.

I dont think there are any off road motorbikes with ABS as it doesn’t work off road. Im talking about things like motocross bikes, trials bikes, that sort. Not like my adventure bike or the BMW version, those are great with ABS on the road, you turn it off when off road.

So given they dont work on off road motorbikes, how will they work on mountain bikes ?

So, can anyone name an off-road motorcycle that uses ABS ?
Motocross, Enduro, Trials, plain old Greenlaning. I dont think any of them use it. On road, sure. Off road not.

Off road it wont work properly. I have ABS on my KTM motorbike – great and effective on the road, off road it does not work. As such KTM have a button that turns it off for off road use.

We are British, we love news about the weather.

It may seem like Doom Mongering now, but the tarmac will melt when it gets hot enough. Then the roadies will turning to mountain bikers for advice while the car drivers are all stuck.

Think potholes are bad, wait till most of the roads have melted.

Gwynn does seem to be back on it. Either the track is an outlier and it just suits him and the bike, or they have finally got the bike sorted. Probably the latter as Dakota has also been up there recently.

On the subject of Rob – I actually asked him outright at Fort Bill if he was going to be employed by Red Bull next year. He said “No”. After I commented along the lines of how the coverage wont be the same without him he replied saying the internet will explode and a week later they will all have forgotten it.

Really not sure who would be good to do his job. Hopefully they pick someone who actually knows what they are talking about and someone with character.
