Finally got hold of them. There are places:) just got to order something called a ‘cheque book’

Yep.. built up a mountain bike with a friend.. was just worried about bottom bracket and the fact it is carbon (which sounds ever so more delicate than steel)

Thurman!.. yes.. i’ll take you up on that offer… very kind. Will shout you some beer tokens :)

anyone build it up themselves? I’ve just ordered it on the cycle to work scheme but ‘doing the spannering myself’ just wondered if i’ve made a massive error and should take it to a bike shop instead

Been with them twice now and highly recommend them. Great trails and they can definitely cater to any need (we did a really gnarly uplift day that was very technical)

Mine – still a work in progress (need to install fridge etc)

Echo what else has been said : best thing i’ve ever bought. Recently bought a bike rack and came in very useful for mayhem.

Excellent.. Thanks stewrogers.. most helpful.. will get the tape measure out

sorry slight hijack, stewrogers> what is your arm length and handlebar width? I’m about to buy a planet x sl pro carbon (think i’m going to go 42cm handlebar) and struggling with what length stem to go for

How is it best to measure shoulder width? From the knobbly bits on the top of my shoulder the width is 38cm but if i measure from the outside of my shoulder it’s 48cm. If i hold the tape measure to 44cm it feels about right?!

a few selling for over £1000 on ebay!

So let me get this straight. The London mint office that have sent all the PR news shots around saying they will page £50 for every 20p {www.undated20p.com ) have nothing to do with the royal mint then?!

I’ve seen some of these go for over £2000 on ebay.

My mum has just told me she’s found one :P

really sorry to hear that. My dad was diagnosed with mesothelioma (the rarer stomach form) in September 2008. Like you this news devastated the whole family. It’s been an up and down roller coaster ever since but we’ve all tried to stay strong and be there for him.

Echo thoughts about Macmillian. They have given us tremendous help over the past year.

All i can do is echo what everyone else has said here. Try to keep strong and spend quality time with him.

Going to try an old Racing Ralph

Don’t forget they changed the racing ralph and it’s now much better (for a front tyre)

winter i always use nobby nic front and summer RR on the front and rear (used this for mayhem and worked well)

same as snowslave. Bought a set when on one 1st brought them in. Pretty much used them every week since then.. no problems

Realising that MTB makes you very very good on hills.

I found this too. Went for my 1st road ride with a couple of people from a bristol cycling club. Got to some fairly steep hills and they started getting out of the saddle and I just cruised past them sitting down!

then again.. i like hills :-)

    I didn’t know this :D

James May is a presenter on BBC’s Top Gear alongside Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond. He worked at Autocar magazine until he was sacked for inserting a hidden message in one issue, which read: “So you think it’s really good, yeah?

there was some excellent heckling from the guy with the loud hailer near the grass climb up the old area field-to a guy pushing his bike with a broken rear mech-

That’ll most probably be sheldona. that was the ashtonmtb camp

Anyone know the guy taking photos in one of the woods? As you came out of the twisty tree section after the 1st climb he had a sign saying something like ‘muddy bum.co.uk’ but i can’t remember the exact address

Just got them back from a full service. Outcome

    * Seals dry, no oil

The knocking was caused from the u turn. Tftuned explain the same problem

There’s play in the travel adjust helix. A small amount of play is necessary because if it was tight you wouldn’t be able to turn it, however this can cause a knock. During service, we reduce this as much as possible but it can never be completely eliminated.

He greased it all up and it seems fine now

All ready for Mayhem now :-)

I also got mine through roger about a month ago. Very very pleased. Run them with nobby nic/racing ralph. Running around 25 – 30psi

Noticeably faster against the hope xc/717 build before (+ don’t have to mess around with stupid rim strips that use to bind to the tyre)

whacked sealant in a pumped the tyre. Piece of P*ss! not had any problems with them

Sorry cheers PeterPoddy.. how is is it to DIY if it’s dry seals?

Yep.. checked headset.. tightened and it’s not that.

It seems more up and down play i fhtta makes sense.. If I test it by hitting the wheel on the ground I can feel it ‘clunk’ a very real noticeable audible clunk (sort of topping out)

Noticed it loosing neg pressure after every ride

I wouldn’t go for anything heavy though – some of those climbs are absolute monsters.. we’re talking climbs of 2-3 hours! :)

yep.. a couple of the rides were better for my hardtail so chose that. I’d never ridden a FS before so hired 1 for 2 days to see what it was all about (plus the owner mentioned he thought i’d enjoy it more)

    trickydisco

I’ve been with them twice. 1st time i had a hard tail and rode it 3 days and hired a stumpy for the other 2 (major grin factor having never ridden a FS)

Took out my superlight the year after and loved it. The guide (Ian) the 1st year rode a marin quake and the 2nd year (nick) rode a santa cruz chameleon.

I think mark (guide at cerro macho) rides a stumpy and chameleon

Skim read nicks 1st post and though it said ‘spare girlfriend’ :)

Basically take everything you have. Also take a set of nice 1.5 mud tyres (that’s what i’m doing this year.. bloody 2.25 nobby nics were sh*te in the serious mud)

yep. Run 2.25 on the front for year now with no problems (tubeless) run RR on the rear (although can’t get a the 2.1 to inflate on my ztr355 rim!)

There’s the superlight tech info set up page

or look at the TF tune shock set up guide (under sag and how to measure it)

That’s a bit worrying. I’ve just ordered a set of hope pro3/ztr355’s. Presumably it’ll be covered under hope warranty?

that’s funny. I’m interested in the boardman carbon road bike. Spoke to the guy about it and said I suppose a test ride is out of the question? He told me no, I Just had to arrange a time with the young roadie that worked there and i could take it out for a 2 hour test ride around bristol.. Spot on!
