Dropping into 2nd feed station my front brake completely seized – unable to move front wheel. Pads worn down to metal. normally i would have a spare pair of pads but thankfully had omitted to carry them with me ‘forcing’ me to opt-out. Managed to free-up wheel but took the shot-cut back to finish. Some guy had just ended up in the bush below that drop-off. Thankfully not too badly hurt, it seemed.
Despite that, great course. would love to do it in the dry. Met some great people.

We did the same last year. We air-freighted bikes amongst other things. The more you send the relatively cheaper it becomes. We used Qantas air freight. It wasn’t prohibitively expensive. Arrived home within a week or so of us arriving home. No problems with customs. Can’t remember exact cost but way more convenient than boat.

i am size 11, wide feet and have a pair of Sidi Dominators – wide fitting.

They have been extremely comfortable from the outset and are still in very good condition after two heavy years of wear. i love them and would highly recommend them.

i bought them form CRC and initailly they sent the wrong size and changed it with no problems.

I suppose all feet are different but these certainly seem to cater for those with wide feet.
    cheers.

friendly bunch. very effective work-outs. I’ve been going since beginning of Jan and have noticed a difference in my stamina.

Have you used new cables – inners and outers. Sometimes if they’re dirty they will fail to shift smoothly from one cog to the next

Like coffeeking – heights – for the same reason. I have this almost overwhelming urge. It’s like ‘what if i were to take leave of my senses and just throw myself off…’

Flying…it’s the knowledge of almost certain, imminent death shhould things go drastically wrong.

Big things in deep water – lock gates etc…no idea why!!

This use to happen a lot to me in Australia – you know how competitive Aussies are! At first it irritated me; but then you simply see it as a friendly game. Also, there was a sense of ‘turn-taking’. So that they’d ovetake and you’d benefit. It did improve my fitness during my time there.

Incidentally – where’s best to look for stolen bikes – ebay?, anywhere else?

Do local bike shops (I’m thinking of Bristol Bike Workshop) take up ‘offers’ of old bikes to sell?

    cheers

    PS – yes, North Bristol!!

good quality mag – great features and photos and fewer adverts and less ‘adolescent’ than the others. More 6Music than radio 1!

I had a 2002 Kona Kula frame which developed hair-line cracks at the joints. I had bought it from Evans, mail order but as i live in Bristol i arranged to go direct to Paligap (Avonmouth). They were really helpful and sorted me out with a new frame within a day or two. No quibbling and really nice guys. So, if you live anywhere near Bristol i would be tempted to contact paligap directly but even if you deal with your LBS i would be reassured of a good outcome.

    best wishes

    I’m 188cm (6’2″) and have a 20″ – so i’m guessing that 19″ should be just right for you
