90mm down to 60mm on my inbred, love it; able to move around the bike more and handles a bit better.

Best way to tell visually is the Seat stay & Toptube intersect at the same point on the Seat tube on the 456, Seat stay is higher than the TT on the standard Inbred.

Wow that bend outside my house is dangerous I should:-

    1. Grit it before anyone gets hurt
    2. Film people getting hurt

Sutton Park, ultra gnar to the radcore extreme evelope pushing max. But seriously its 300 yards from my front door and pretty big so you can do 8-10 miles without backtracking. TBH boring by day pretty good by night if you weave the singletrack bits together and go singlespeed and push your fitness. Its not about picking the smooth line more about picking the worst to make it fun 😀

Why would you need antiseize on a stainless steel bolt, is it really going to corrode before the chain ring needs replacing anyway

Why not just buy some thermal long sleeved tops and leggins from BHS or something, why does everyone have to spend so much money on clothing when its for sitting on a bike?

A friend of mine with no bike knowledge brought a bike from Halfords, they had set up the bike with the stem pointing backwards, towards the rider! He then rode it around like this for a couple of weeks wondering why his knees kept hitting the bars 😆

Are you sure the battery cap is screwed on tight, if its a little loose your symptoms can occur.

Otherwise loose connections or just the battery is a loose fit in the torch and you may need to shim it out a bit.

Most likely the first reason though

The real justification for single speed is that it just feels so good…

And that’s my opinion on the matter

Same here, I went SS origianlly cos my local trails are a bit dull and I never pushed myself hard enough with gears, but IMO SS has a great feel; and that now is the sole reason why I don’t want to put gears back on my bike.

I don’t think I ever “flowed” along with gears, more experienced geared riders probably do, but I used to be very slow-fast-slow-fast when I rode gears.

Plus night riding SS alone is great, the bike makes no noise so its like you are gliding along in the darkness.

That penis is too big for this troll, what a stupid ****.

Of course every single person who favours riding singlespeed must act the same and be an opinionate git, your OP isn’t opinionated at all.

All brummies are stupid and everyone in liverpool is constantly fighting a nicking stuff too I suppose.

I personally ride singlespeed intentionally so that I go at a different pace and avoid daft ****ts like you.

Just recieved one of these for my helmet

    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15335

I found it bright and complemented the Magicshine on the bars well. Battery lasted for a least one hour on full

I’d say the bright spot is 1/2 to 2/3 as bright as the magicshine’s and about 1/2 of the size which is fine for me as its just to see around the corners a bit earlier.

It did however turn itself off once when I hit a large bump but I’m not complaining for £10. You could go more powerful but I liked the idea of the low weight.

Picked up this frame for £170 at the start of the year including seatpost, BB and chainset.

Could be an option if you can find one. Reviewed very well and I’m very pleased…

Wow good bargain, Boardman frame added to list.

Ok after some of the comments I may start thinking about buying frame separately.

    thanks

I’m 6’1″ so that any frame would have to be a Large(Prophet & Scott in the classifieds are out)

    Ok so current potentials

    Kona Dawg
    Cannondale Prophet
    Marin ???
    Spesh ???
    GT I-drive

I suppose I could go the frame only route and just spend time looking for the right deals, I have spare brakes, gears, contact points. Its just 2nd hand wheels & LT forks are harder to find cheaply.

Anyway back on topic, I’m not going to be buying this any time this year as I have to get the budget approved and have spent too much already this year.

    Name some bikes people…

Not fussy really, only listed a Kona as first choice as these seem to go cheap 2nd hand and seem to be a pretty bombproof design. A Giant would be great but I’m not sure I could find an ok one for £400 complete.

Not thought about Marin, I’ll have a look.

I do like the look of Prophets though…

Had one of these for 10 years, needed to replace the bungy cord after 5 years and just contacted the supplier, very hard wearing for the money. Handles a 15 stone bloke doing 40+ strokes a minute no problem.

Handle like a dream and the easiest car to park at speed I’ve ever driven, however is a twenty year old car going to start up ok on a cold february morning day in day out. Its not garaged so personally I wouldn’t.

Plenty of front brake when you are in the apex 😛

I’d just be a bit wussy and go in slower and as wide as I could, neutral like.

Hose it off after the ride if I can, mud is still wet so gets it 95% clean in a couple of mins, let it dry & lube chain. If I let it dry muddy its usually 20+ minutes mostly down to the drivetrain being covered in hard greasy lubemud

racy frame angles are generally found on light builds/ cruisier angles on more robust builds- and I think that’s why a lot of people expect light weight to equal a faster bike, when in fact it’s that the design males it a more efficient pedalling machine.

Think you’re wrong! Take 2 identical 4X hardtails. use the exact same same light weight (4.5lb) Alu frame, build one with XO/Reba/ProII/717 and light dependable finishing kit the other with old Saint/Argyle/721 and average DH worthy kit and you’d have one 25lb bike and one 30lb one. both as efficient pedalling as each other but with the same rider on board the light one would make up a bike length out a start gate, change direction faster and be more manouverable. take them both on a proper DH track and although less manouverable the heavier one will be easier to control.

How about take 2 different frames of the same weight, one racy and one slack and put the same kit on each, would they feel the same? No.

The answer is weight and geo both make a difference, why do all these threads just turn into black or white disagreements when the world is grey 🙄

Lets not demonise the mother of your child/ren as in the long run you have to stay in contact with each other. Yes she may be manipulating you but most likely its probably not in a concious vindictive way, like you her self esteem is probably low, she feels alone so being able to control you and your libido makes her feel better about herself, however it will also ultimately make her respect you less and less. Why else would she be chatting to men on the internet if not to boost her self esteem?

You have to start making things more on your terms but not in an agressive way. She will probably go mad at you at first, just be the bigger man and be calm and assertive. After a while she will get her respect for you back and at that point you can seriously discuss how your relationship should continue. From experience you should either be together or apart as the situation you are in now just eventually leads to more pain and resentment. It is tough when you are lonely, something good always comes along eventually.

If you can’t get away in the evenings is there club/activity you can rope your son into at the weekends so you can meet mums?

Can’t wait until the next ride, I too had galloping horse noise (the park has wild ponies in it), didn’t know if they were coming at me or running away.

Need to get a lid light now as only have bar mounted one which caused a couple of dicy turns.

The only problem I found was that its hard to tell muddy areas from hardpack and sprinting into 6 inches of gloopy mud in the dark isn’t the best 😛

    TrentSteel
    Free Member

Actually rode the route faster in the dark, no excuse to stop and take in the view (when you actually want a breather).

I only made the point that I was SS as up until now I never noticed the complete lack of drivetrain rattle it was eerie.

TBH solo night riding is what I would prefer at the mo, yes I do miss not sharing the experience and having a laugh and a joke, but when I’m riding that about the only “me time” I get (pretty sad but true).

however on the last ride I did tape it to the stem…

Don’t bother packing a camelback as some shipmates might accuse you of being overpacked for the 120 trillion mile journey 🙂

An inner tube taped to the saddle, a multitool and 500ml waterbottle should do it

This is the MTB Bike I ride (on any off road scenario, be it the Transalp Challenge/local MTB race/Trail centre or a potter round the local trails) Santa Cruz Blur, 100 mm rear travel, front SID’s 100 mm ish travel.(SID’s have lockout incase of a sprint finish to the line)

Flat carbon bars slammed down on the headtube, no spacers. No ghey bar ends either. Stans ZTR tubeless, rest is XT. XTR is a waste of money for the weight saving and only for PRO’s or people sucked into the “lifestyle”.

This is what equipment i take on all rides, spare tube (with a square piece of tyre sidewall taped to it) This tube is taped to the underside of my 100 mm carbon stem (Bonti xxx no degree rise).

Under my Flite transalp titanium (height difference from saddle to stem, frickin major)is a small bag (size of a typical singletrack brain, large orange)containing 2 CO2 cartridges and valve adapter, cable ties,2 tyre levers and chain spliter)

In my jersey pocket, mobile phone and smack gel (for emergencies).

Dependant on duration of ride (always non stopping, warp factor 8,no dabbing on tech bits and downhill like Mammouth Mountain)

I take one bidon or two mounted on carbon cages, one in my rear jersey pocket if ride is expected to be longer than 4 hrs.

Is this a joke or did you really feel the need to describe in detail the components of your bike that you have things strapped to? You failed to mention what brand jersey you wear, pray tell; I must know.
