I’ve used black nail varnish to fill in/cover up a mark on a fork stanchion before, which worked well enough..
Cheap, too, if you pick up from asda or similar
I used a 100mm FS 26er and remember thinking how glad I was I opted for that over rigid!
It slows some of the climbing but a number of the descents are very ‘lumpy’..
From my experience, they’re not an instant fix and you’ll need to persevere with set up adjustments and training your body to like it.. That said, I did eventually get on with my demo one. And I’d buy one if they were more affordable. They hold value on eBay too.
Steerer tube extenders which clamp on to existing steerer are a standard bit of kit widely available. However, they’re not neat looking.. I have one on my hack/commute but wouldn’t think to place on a decent build. That would be a case of changing forks or even just steerer (costly) or opting for a lower stack stem and headset.
If you’ve never ridden the chaos of London, how about a Boris bike hire? A risky, adrenalin-fueled activity could be great to celebrate or offload any stress/nerves.. Go easy around those big, red buses 😉
Can’t go wrong with either Marathons or Travel Contacts.. I’ve commuted countless miles for years and remember just one puncture. They are both very durable and reliable no-nonsense tyres.
