it seems that you get paid by the amount of time you’ve served here

Im the same, in a private sector place. Im the 3rd line support guy, earning less than the 2nd lady because she has been here 20 years and Ive been here 5. Part of my job is to manage her day to day activities, ensure that what she does is accurate and correct, and generally mentor her to ensure she stays in touch with the new technologies that I implement. All while she sits on a good 8K more than me. This also means her annual bonus is larger than mine as they are percentage based, as are the payrises. 👿

Another vote for Tissot. Got a PRC200 (cheap in the watch world) and its lovely. Nice big face, doesnt weigh ten tons and looks more expensive than it is.

Had my TomTom app about 2 years now and its great. Bought the TomTom cradle in a sale for cheap and the GPS fix is almost instant and very strong. Wouldnt be without it now, its often been handy when travelling with others for finding the way for the last couple of miles of a journey too.

Always had Pirelli or Michelin on my Leon FR and found them good, if a little quick to wear. Always put it down to it being FWD diesel so a heavy front end. Got some Hankook Ventus’ on at the moment, bottom end of the pricey tyres I would normally get and they are excellent. Grip like puppy excrement to a mattress when cornering hard in wet or dry. They were about £40 a corner cheaper than the top notch stuff and potentially, better performing. Quieter too.

Great support, slow to do stuff. Also in my experience they are let down by the courier they use too, took three weeks for them to pick up my return and over a week to deliver.

Local council has done just this on a few local roads, none of which have signs to warn you so my commute was interesting as I went sailing onto a road akin to a pebble beach a couple of times. It was flanked by signs saying ‘Improving local cycling routes’ Not sure whats improved though… just seem to get showered with stones everytime a car overtakes me.

Good luck to all riding and hope the weather holds out.

I also have a Sony. Much as I presume titusrider did, I wanted something capable for me to ‘grow’ into but with fairly easy use out the box. Also I have quite big hands and found the Nikon’s and Canons a bit small in my hand with the buttons quite close together. The Sony has been more than enough for me and has the added bonus of being able to run old Minolta lenses which are often cheap on eBay.

Wheelies are the ‘chosen’ supplier of replacement kit with most insurers from what I can gather. Dealt with them for a replacement Stumpjumper and found it very difficult to claim for anything other than a bike. They didnt sell the pedals I had so couldnt replace them etc. Lost about £300 in total extras. Found them awkward and fairly unhelpful. Their attitude seemed to be ‘there’s the offer, take it or leave it’

How have you found the PCX? The GF has just ordered one and it looks lovely. Hoping its as reliable as Honda’s should be as she will be clocking up circa 1000 miles a month on it.

I use the Gourdon for commuting, means I can shove everything in it and know its waterproof. Tested it in the bath and all was good. Nothing fancy and cheap. Its not uncomfortable providing you pack it sensibly.

Usually just rinsed out with water and then the inside of the cap starts to look a bit black with mould spores it gets a wash and milton. About every 3 months or so.

As above, sad news. Recognise him from a few endurance events although never had a chance to say hi. Sounds like I missed out. Read parts of the LEJOG blog and will now go back and read it start to finish. Least I can do. Really puts things in perspective, my dull job aint so bad today.

RIP Nick, enjoy those always dry and dusty trails on the otherside.

Conwy Falls cafe was amazing two weeks ago, had breakfast and lunch in there on different occasions and although a little expensive was excellent and good friendly service. Toilets arent all that but who really cares?

Llandegla was ok, average coffee, average cake but decent size slices. Captive audience will always command a higher price but it didnt seem outrageously expensive.

Afan I always go self catering…

Didnt really go as planned, got home at 6:30, in curry house by 7:30, back at work by 8:30 until 3am this morning. She was fairly understanding given that dinner turned into a takeaway for one.

That said, after reading some of the above, especially Willard, I feel mine was a dramatic success…

Id be interested in this. Most of the insurers dont seem to cover bikes as standard or have a limit of £1K… 🙄

Richard Hammond would probably host seeing as he is an avid driver and cyclist. Plus his teeth would attract the right broadcasters.

Ive got a 2010 Remedy 8 and dont find the alu any kind of problem. In fact a friend had a Fuel Ex 9.9 and a Welsh rock went right throught the downtube whereas mine just has a chip… Read that as you will.

Logitech Harmony stuff. Ive got the cheap 555 and its great. If you can afford the touch screen stuff I believe you can record some pretty advanced macros to do stuff.
