BOS suspension is awesome when it works. I used to do warranty for Surf Sales before Jungle took over. I still do service Deville forks but not rear shocks. I fixed a friends Deville other day on their capra, it was loosing air on stripping the fork discovered one of the parts in the air assembly had been badly machined causing the fork to loose air, i got a replacement from Jungle but they had been waiting over 9weeks for parts, speaking from 1st hand experience I know BOS customer service sucks between August-September you will get nothing from them! French holidays in Aug then Sept they concentrating on next years products, I had countless emails to them asking for parts, seals & oil. I do still service Devilles but with SKF seals & aftermarket high performance suspension oil. We also didn’t want to deal with YT etc when we did BOS due to back then NO instructions came with the forks & NO body was equalzing the air chambers causing forks to cavitate we were in undated with forks going wrong!!

Pikes are good. I have a set of 160mm, I also have Devilles 140mm on my HT running a 27.5 tyre & 180mm Idylle SC on my NS Soda. I love BOS forks & service my own as i used to do all the warranty before Jungle.

having worked on the other end doing warranties for a frame manufacturer, i never had the shocks back only ever the frame. I had some go from 26″ to be replaced with 650b however for them the shock was same eye to eye on 650b frame, did swap a DH frame for Enduro frame once & frame didn’t come with shock but then old frame wasn’t sent back with shock.

Praxis now do a 11-40 cassette, it is more expensive but no expander cog or swapping out cogs.
    11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-34-40 so a good range

How old are your old BOS Idylle SC forks? Older versions are a coil fork. Still the best 180mm fork out there.

    Thered, good write up there.
I am curious who mentioned to you about not screwing damping cartridge cap back in at end of service until you have fully extended the forks with air. I have never done this although if forks ever cavitated when re inflating had to change o rings on air side. Usually if forks equalised correctly forks extend to full travel as increase the air.

    Hi Niall
I was running 180 front & rear with SLX brakes
have just swapped the rear to160mm but not looked closely at the gap or ridden it since the change.
The DH bike had 203 front & rear now got the 180 that came off the Switchback on the rear.
had a 160 lying around, which is now on the switchback. Rode it at BPW other day was great fun although feet did bounce around through rock gardens on rim dinger with flats….

I have a Switchback. Running it with 26″ BOS 140mm Devilles with 27.5 wheels
Great bike, have only ridden round Swinley a couple times & local woods with it. Having not ridden a HT for a little while realise you get lazy on a FS.

    Was That the blue one?
Top is 44mm bottom would be 49.6mm head tube diameters.
Cane Creek or Hope be good for which headset to use.
Lower headset would be external for tapered.

sorry to dig up an oldish thread but what length travel forks are people running on their Sherpa’s?

    thanks

The reason they explode or sink through their travel is because they are being serviced by people who don’t know what they are doing!
Jungle took over with BOS in Jan 2014 & by June had not sorted anything, don’t call this better.

The Reason they don’t work is because they forks will have cavitated. J Tech might have put in too thick oil old AMX3 oil was Thin oil about 3wt
You don’t pull up on the brace you actually push down on the forks to equalise them. About an inch & hold for About 3 secs as you pump up the fork every 15-20psi
And yes I know as I used to service for Surf Sales
Jungle took over from us in Jan 2014

The BHF ride is well sign posted have been a mechanic for them on both the L2B off road & SDW last 2 years.
SDW more challenging & the Eastbourne end is the tougher end with bigger hills.

Good frames have had a 2010, 2012 & now 2013 carbon Covert as sold my 2014 one.
    2012 went to 12×142 rear.
2013 increased to 160mm rear travel.

    My sauce –
From doing my Cytech wheel building course.
If running a DH bike with 203mm rotors they will use big forces on the wheel when applied, so YES it is important to lace the wheel a certain way due to these forces, a road bike does not have discs so does not apply!!

    transition1
    Free Member

If you put the correct 3 spokes in first it then sets you up to build the rest of the wheel.
There are also different lacing methods depending if a front or rear wheel & road or mountain bike wheel.
Asymmetric, reverse symmetric & symmetric lacing. This relates to load factors from Disc rotors & on the rear wheel the drive side.
