WTB Vigilante – tons of grip, but a bit draggy.

As unklehomered said, set up right, you won’t notice the Slides are there, which is surely the sign of a good fork?

Hope Enduro here, on an Inbred. I’ve given the thing some death and they’re still straight and true after 5 months. Can’t read anything about their wheels though. Would have thought the hype would have been massive, but quite the opposite.

Lazy me, should have Googled it. Bluetooth radio seems like the only way you can ensure service won’t cut out due to signal dropout.

How do streamers play their music in the car?

Yes, they’re good, I have a pair, they help you grip the handlebars. They cost next to nothing. Is there any need to seek verification from others? Go buy them.

I get that ads are necessary and Singletrack’s survival has got to be subs-driven. But I think most critics of the non-subs version would just like one with slightly fewer ads. It’s the recent creep of ads in every spare space that’s turning the site into a naff looking, inaccessible place to visit.

If Singletrack value new visitors and want to grow new subs from strangers, I would have thought they should be looking at sorting this out ASAP. If they just rely on word of mouth and people that already know and accept the site, then I can understand why they wouldn’t really see this as an issue.

Their site, their strategy, ultimately their success or failure.

Orange Segment? [/url] Currently doing it for me. Not XC light, but good compromise on weight over travel and geometry. Reckon it would be a very quick and stable bike.

Planned a dry ride up Eastridge Friday night, but it lashed it down. It’s left it damp, but pretty perfect, adding some grip rather than it being too loose. Expect the odd puddle but little mud. Hopton is about the same.

I think another issue here is the poster’s perception of his family’s expectations and aspirations. Never believe that you “owe” anything to your family. They decided to make you, you had no say in the matter. Yes, many of us are lucky to be given hand outs and support by family, but again, their choice, given they decided to have you. You own you.

I think my trouble stems from getting a free month from a flyer on my windscreen at the Dyfi Enduro. I’m now just consumed by jealousy but not quite consumed enough to stop being a tight arse :-)

So you’d think they’d can the idea of retail. Oh well, not trolling, just curious. £1.49 a month sub to rid the ads seems close to something I’d consider. Will have to take another look at the sub options.

I like buying a physical mag every now and then. If they are distributed to the masses in Tesco et al, surely a lower cover price makes more sense, as retail must be all about shifting units.

Great, thanks. Pricey but worth it if it’s the only option to slacken by one degree.

New Hope Enduros, very strong and faultless so far. Plus better tubeless performance than Stan’s. Oh, and they look pretty good too.

WTB Vigilante 2.3. Absolute grip, predictable in all conditions, great tubeless.

Yep, the whole car up to 2008 (and slightly beyond?) was built on the Focus estate platform, so essentially the same car.

What engine would she be looking for? I have a 2008 1.6 diesel and it’s been pretty faultless, apart from the diesel particulate filter (DPF). They’re a pain on many cars, but mine went and cost me £650. On the smaller engines, an additive for it needs topping up every 30k or so. I’d make sure that’s been maintained. Cam belt not needed until 150k on mine, so little need to worry about that. Otherwise AFAIA all good. They’re a solid, if boring a 2 b car. I plan to put interstellar mileage on mine.

Re: the tall front end versus suspension fork, I’m more than pleased with the X-Fusion Slide on my 29 Inbred. It’s set at 120mm but the stanchion length is 140 so that gets around the height issue I’d imagine.

Wheelies and skids are better than on a FS, singletrack is more fun, climbing is easier, cheaper to buy and maintain, but you’ll be a little bit slower on reeeaaalllly tech stuff (think that’s about the only downside as far as I can tell)!

Chain has got plenty of life in it (nowhere near 0.75 wear indicator yet). Suspect I’ll invest in a clutch mech at some stage soon – seems to make even more sense on a HT.

Are they proven yet? Heard one or two reliability issues with the tension wearing out quicker than the normal life of a mech.

Took the only spacer off driveside as chain was dropping all the time. Have removed one link at a time until I can’t remove any more. Dropping has reduced along the way until now it’s just once a ride at most.

Don’t have a clutch mech (bought a new XT shortly before the clutch ones started coming out). Same setup transferred over from FS and it never dropped on that bike.

Suspect ring could be wearing now. It’s about a year old (a Race Face).

Inbred? Bomb proof, good geometry, 29 can take a 140 fork. I have a Slide on mine, which is 120 travel but the stanchion length is 140 and it steers like its on rails.

I am amazed that this forum isn’t all over the new Hope rims yet. Got a pair and they are a cinch tubeless compared with Flows.

New Hope Tech Enduros feel very strong. They run tubeless better than Stan’s and have the deep wall profile of Mavics.

Kona Dawg. Whenever people would ask me what it was, I’d end up trying to pronounce Dawg but giving up and calling it a Dog.

Were they easy to set up? What tape and valves, Stan’s? Holding air ok?

    TrailriderJim

So, trouble with the hubs (unusual for Hope), but how are the rims – have you tried them tubeless?

It’s the second time I’ve posted about this, really surprised these haven’t created a buzz already. Maybe if OnOne made tubeless compatible rims?…

(Apologies for the blatant second post to get it back on the front page)

If you’re coming in from Wenlock, the main fire road climb up to the top of The Wrekin will be on your left at a three-way road junction near the cliff car park. Turn right and you can head into The Ercall for some jumps and fun. But the really good descents are off the top of The Wrekin. Once at the trig point (still facing the way you rode up), either carry straight on for a steep natural one, head left (keeping left) for a man made tight tech one, or turn around, ride a 100m or so and head left into the tee line for the tech one I think you’re referring to. Very steep.
