How did geometry begin so wrong without someone suggesting “let’s try the complete opposite”? That 1980 MTB, horrendous. Hindsight is truly annoying.

Another vote for r3pro, used mine just the other week.

It looks like you can only free one piston at a time. So if you have two stuck pistons, is the best way to do each one separately?

High 5 sir! Love it, ordered. What would I ever do without STW?

They started appearing in our kitchen earlier this month. I put down a bait pod and within two days they’d gone. So far, no return. I think bait poison is much more effective than powder, as the ants take it back to the nest and they all die out. Not nice, but when you’re infested you end up resorting to wipe out tactics.

I can’t recommend BearingPro tools highly enough

I’ve just checked out their website. They look like a great solution for getting hub-specific, cheap, functional removal and fitting tools. Thanks for the shout!

Can I go first with “how much???” please? Twelve hundred and forty pounds for a Fox 36 fork that we’ll no doubt see on every other gnarpoon soon enough, wow. Ker-ching, Mr. Fox.

steel ones last and last and last – value for money they’re excellent. It just depends if the weight is an issue

The old “pick two” conundrum. I went cheap & steel and the weight gain isn’t noticeable. SRAM steel chainring, Sunrace all steel cassette, Hope Pro 4 steel freehub. I run GX Eagle chains and they’re the only component in the drivetrain that needs regularly replacing.

Fitted one new wall light. Started on the second, drilled one hole for the hanging bracket, drilled the second perfectly centred through a central heating pipe. Water fountain erupts, almost break the dog jumping over her to get to the stop tap. Dirty central heating water stains and 340 notes later having paid an emergency plumber to hack the plaster back and fix a pipe joint and I’m spending tomorrow refixing the cut out plaster board and attempting to skim over it.

Is 2018 only a few bike modern be Geo?

Sorry, no comprende, but my large 2018 909 has 65 HA, 73 SA and 1207mm wheelbase, so pretty good by today’s numbers I think. Certainly rides confidently.

In answer to OP, no but it’s forced me to adapt. Luckily got a good trade deal on a Whyte 909 in 2018 and it was an early modern geometry bike. So I’ve decided to run the frame until it dies (which is likely never), swap the fork out every five years and I’ve switched from GX Eagle cassette and freehub to a steel Hope 11 speed hyperglide freehub and Sunrace cassette. Plus I’ve learnt to build wheels, which makes life a lot cheaper as you can keep re-using expensive components like Hope hubs.

I would note that NX jockey wheels don’t fit GX

On a 12-speed GX cassette cage, you just have to grind down the top wheel mount and they work fine. Did this to my cage over a year ago and have had no problems with my NX wheels.

The Geoff? I bought one and found it hard going. Heavy and I couldn’t find a comfortable position. Switched back to narrowish flat bars with ends.

Those who acquire and grow market assets asap accumulate wealth. Whether it’s property, shares, collectibles, not all routes are unaffordable, but not beginning asap and then sticking at it is the blocker.

Another Nilfisk fan here. Bit like the Miele of vacuum cleaners or Bissell of carpet cleaners – the understated superior alternative to the heavily marketed leader. Bought the patio fitment and an upgraded snow foam thingy so I can cover my car in even thicker cherry smelling foam 😋

a good bike shop can build you a really good set of wheels.

A good wheel builder (rather than a good bike shop) can, but there’s no guarantee your LBS will have one. I learnt how to build my own last year and haven’t looked back. Provided you start off with the right understanding and you have patience, you can’t go wrong. I can now transfer old hubs onto new rims with minimum expense and faff. Plus the process is genuinely a joy. So much of the issues come down to poor attention to tension in the build process and then poor tyre and pressure choice by the rider, especially on the rear and double especially if on a hardtail.

You won’t have the light that’s on the mains charger unit indicating when the trickle charge has finished. Not sure how important this is though?

This Night Has Opened My Eyes, I would add to the thread. For me, The Smiths were one of those bands that had a few really great songs but not up there with the greatest. Whatever you think of Morrissey, without him, the band wouldn’t have got as far as they got on the songs alone.

The big gains are hard to predict over 20 years. If you’re happy for a stable but less than 5% annual return, UK property or US stocks would be the best bets I would think. Both are likely to continue to be driven by demand.

Get a humidity reader and dehumidifier off Amazon. At least you can measure the problem, but as said above, fix the cause of condensation (easier said than done though).

Getting rubber grommets back in on any frame with internal routing that uses grommet in place of something better

Whyte have a tool for this if you email them (it’s not on their site).

I’d check the tension of the spokes. Pinned joints tend to close up once the tension gets high enough.

The achilles heel of rear mechs being in the line of fire often comes up but if they were vulnerable we’d have ditched them years ago. It’s a problem that doesn’t exist.

How about a boycott of the firms who payed his fees? They must have known it was wrong and I would think they could be considered equally guilty under bribery and corruption legislation.

^This, but legal action not just boycotting. Unless the firms paying the MPs are punished, the sleaze won’t stop. Not defending the bloke, but he won’t be the last individual to accept a nice easy wodge of cash if they think they can get away with it.

I quite like the fact the thread has degenerated into a discussion on global cheese consumption. More interesting than the OP.

What sort of riding are you planning to do with a sub-£200 wheelset. Can’t imagine they’d be good for anything other than light road use in decent weather.
