Sorry, I was struggling to describe the issue. So the post works fine with the lever – it stays up when you want it up and down when you want it down. But when it’s down, you can manually lift it back up and push it down again (without actuating it with the lever). This means on rough descents, it’s free to move, which causes it to knock against its lowest position. It’s annoying but I can live with it. I was just curious to know the cause of the issue and if there’s a fix.

I would suggest fip – radio France. Good choice of music, very little chat, which isn’t distracting as it’s in French

    There’s always one.

Does anyone need more than what a Brand X offers? Been running mine for 5 years so far and all good.

Yes I remember the original thread but it’s closed so I couldn’t post this to it.

Six thousand and six hundred pounds for a single pivot bike. Just… wow… What percentage of the country can think, yes, I’m having that. I’ve got that spare as it happens. I’m off to the bike shop tomorrow to order one. And are Hope cranks now not shit? Just curious. Sorry, I’ve had a drink, it’s Friday.

“Keracote” or “Seracote”? Bumping my Invisiframe question again too 👍⬆️

Would you recommend invisiframing after this paint job, or is it tough enough so you wouldn’t need to add any extra protection?

Wow, that takes guts to face his nemesis again. Is he planning to ride the whole length of trail? That would be nuts. A true icon that mon.

Green Hope pads = green Galfer pads?

Have spare valve inserts so that when they clog, you just swap the insert out and keep the old valve stem.

PSA, get a pack of spare Joe’s No Flats inserts instead. Much cheaper 😀

The best “value” tyres IMO are WTB. Tough Fast on the back for bombproof tubelessness.

It’s hardly respectful but listening to The Smiths’ Queen Is Dead album. Seems to suit the mood.

Unless you have access to proper vintage cider apple varieties it’s a lot of work and trial and error which will result in an acidic bland drink. The type of apple really is key. We had various dessert varieties and two Bramley trees and for ten years I couldn’t get a decent drink out of them. I planted two Dabinett trees and they just started to mature before we moved house and I’m sat here drinking last year’s cider from them and it’s a pretty nice drink. Best advice if you really want to have a go is buy Andrew Lea’s book. He’s a legend in cider making circles. I rescued one of the younger Dabinetts and planted it in our new place. It’ll produce enough to get 20 bottles a year in about 5 years time and that will do me. Cider apples are either bittersweets or bittersharps and there are a handful you can still get on modest sized rootstock. Dabinett (a bittersweet) is one of the classic apples that self pollinates annually and you can get a decent drink out of it as a single variety.

I’ve found a method. Use a small, thin flat head (like an electrical screwdriver) and get it between the cap and bearing looking at the cup from the inside. You can then gently work it off applying a little force until it starts moving. But go steady, they’re very easy to break.

Oh, and to answer the question of the thread title, because without them, the fur-shaped hole is just too big to fill in our lives with anything else.

my dog is now 12y/o and probably doesn’t have too long left. Also that his brother didn’t make it to that age

We had two sisters from the same litter. We lost the one aged 11 (just) the other week and I’m still struggling with it. Just trying to keep the other one occupied now. Just as well the one we still have was the dominant one. They seem to handle the loss better. Sorry for your loss, you won’t get over it but I’m sure you gave him the best life he could have had.

Fiddling while Rome burns? Forum link from main burger menu far too low on list, given it’s the main traffic generator and arguably Singletrack’s reason for existence.

We put our 11 year old border collie to sleep on Sunday. She was suffering from extreme anoemia. Vet said blood transfusion would buy her some time but it would have been a long tough road to sourcing and trying to fix the root cause. Guilt trip was massive thinking what if, and leaving her sister alone, but I’m coming to terms with it being the best thing for her. Still, too young to be an old dog. 11 years is just not enough for a dear, unconditional friend to be in our lives and then gone. Sweet dreams pup.

Why don’t you want ones with cartridge bearings?

IME, the bearings don’t last. I tried Superstar ones a couple of years ago and they didn’t address the Eagle chain jamming problem. Maybe they’ve improved them since?

Be at peace with whatever decision you make (or what life gives you). Life is too short and inconsequential to get hung up about this.

I put a post up a while back and mentioned the dreaded “spirited driving”. Got absolutely slated for being an irresponsible oik suggesting enjoying a fun drive was outrageous antisocial behaviour. Good to know STW aren’t completely against driving enjoyment, just accepting it under another slightly less obvious narrative.

the Code caliper idea is a great one to be honest.

That or swap the pistons out for Code aluminium ones.

What is a B-corp? Think their awful outsourced build quality has forced their hand on this. A couple of mates ride Sonders and I’ve had to help keep keep their wheels running while they sort out warranty replacements.

Has Omologato been covered yet? Just bought a Le Mans 59 and it’s beautiful in the flesh. I’m hoping the quality is not just skin deep with this brand. Not too familiar with them but I just loved the look of the watch and I’m a bit of a motorsport fan.

I’ve had the XM3s for over and year and the quality is superb but the only irritation is you can only sync to one device at a time. So when you want to switch from say, phone to tablet you have to sync every time. Do the XM4s avoid this problem?

Choose a thick dual ply tyre for the rear, get your tyre pressures right and you should avoid the problem. The wheels are rarely the issue.

Thanks for the PSA, my current DNDs are just starting to go at the thumbs. £17 incl free postage with newsletter discount. Not saving a fortune compared with online prices but still slightly betterer than the best.

Agree with the n+1 rule. We use wooden horse bedding pellets. Cheap as, and pretty effective. What an absorbing thread.

I was a big fan of Fibrax until the last couple of batches I used separated from the backing plate and rusted badly. Now trying Galfer, who I believe make Hope’s pads.

Don’t worry too much about the front wheel but for the rear, don’t be afraid to go well over the typical rim recommendations, especially if you’re fitting chunky tyres.

I’d put a 15 quid steely NX ring on that crankset cos it would last longer.
