Pick the back wheel up of a steel framed bike by the saddle and drop it and the frame will spring as the wheel hits the ground. An alloy frame won’t do this to the same degree. A steel frame seems to dampen the trail chatter for me, which makes them more stable at speed, than an alloy frame. Sorry for going off topic.

Would Chipps in Lycra cost less than £13,000?

Oneup posts are similar to Brand X but their levers are better. If Oneup price matched Brand X I’d be tempted. For now, Brand X post with a Oneup lever is my setup.

I wonder if the manufacturer they were using ever got to the bottom of the cracking issue. Seems like a problem specific to them, unless it’s more widespread throughout the DH teams.

I thought the camera work captured the speed well. It’s as though they’re shape shifting around trees, top drawer.

I run a MaxxD mk12 and find Reflex never worked predictably so I’ve kept it in program 4. I find it much safer that way.

Have you pressed the ‘keep me logged in’ button before you’ve entered your login details?

This fixed it for me and I felt a complete twerp for not trying it but the UI is counter intuitive (or that’s what I tell myself anyway).

Another 👍 for Zoe’s hair. Chipps has a touch of the Yondu Udontas about him, no?

Thanks everyone. I’m going to look stupid now, but yes, entering my login details after ticking the box works, doh! In my defence though, it’s the only login UX I know that automatically generates a login after clicking in the username box which auto-fills. I.e. there isn’t the usual login button press despite auto-fill. Not much of a defence though, but glad I posted as I’d still be stuck in my frustrating login loop (un)blissfully unaware!

Take my money, fix the forum.

Pleeeeeeeease fix the login issues. Still having to double log in every time I visit. Totally agree with concept of forum only. The STW hive mind is a special thing that no amount of freelance commsissioned travelogue articles in a glossy mag can beat. Sorry ed team, it’s just the way it is. The forum started at the right time, right place and it drives the interest in the site.

I’m curious what you think of the size of the Longer

So I sat on a Longer yesterday (thanks again Sam) and it definitely felt like an XL bike to me. Just that little bit too long in the cockpit to make me think it would be tough to live with day in day out. So I’ve decided to go long. What would I do without STW. Despite the login pita the subs fee is worth its weight in gold to get input like this thread. Thanks all!

@chiefgrooveguru, taking exactly the same points mine measures 675mm. That inch difference doesn’t surprise me as the Whyte’s quoted ETT is 2 inches longer than the Moxie Long’s. I think the Moxie Long will therefore help with my lower back pain but with a longer reach and wheelbase, still feel like a bigger bike out of the saddle. I’ve had a kind offer to sit on a Longer Moxie this w/e so will see how that feels.

Is that top centre of seat tube, just below the saddle?

Sorry @chiefgrooveguru, mis-read that in my earlier post. 640mm is centre of the top of my seat tube (where it meets the seatpost) to centre of head tube.

Is that top centre of seat tube, just below the saddle?

I measured centre of BB shell to top of saddle (in-line with post) and centre of seat tube to centre of head tube.

I run my saddle level and fairly central on the rails (perhaps a touch forward).

@chiefgrooveguru, my saddle height is 750mm and my Whyte’s seat tube centre to head tube centre is 640mm. Sitting on the bike this morning it struck me that moving any further back from my normal seated position starts to put strain on my lower back and moving more forward helps it. I’ve suffered from lower back muscle pain for years and years, so this might be something I need to bear in mind. I’ll be running a 35mm stem and mid-rise Renthal bars.

Which size 909 are you on? What fork and wheels and are they going on the Moxie?

I’m on a large with 27.5+ wheels and a 130mm Fox 34. The wheels will be going on the Moxie but I’ll be fitting a 150mm Pike with 42mm offset. I will build up a set of 29ers in the future too, to try mullet and full-29 on it. I think the other thing to consider is I’ve just turned 50 and the riding I do now – and will continue to do – is steady 2-3 hour winch and plummet rides. So I won’t be using it for fast racing. @chiefgrooveguru, do you ever think a Longer might suit you more in certain riding situations?

My jeans length is 34″ so not too short-legged. Compared with my 2018 Whyte 909, unsurprisingly the Long is a bit bigger but with shorter effective top tube, given it’s got a steeper seat tube. So I would assume I’d be closer to the bars seated (which is fine as long as my knees aren’t too close to the bars) and it would feel similar to the Whyte downhill but just a bit more stable. In comparison, the Longer would feel about the same as the Whyte climbing but downhill I’d be a couple more inches stretched out and my position would be a bit more centred on the bike. The quandary of being between frame sizes! I’m guessing I probably wouldn’t regret either size from coming off a 2018 frame.

Ours is terrible. Built in 1902 and then pumped full of inappropriate cavity wall insulation in the 2000’s

We moved out of ours with a similar past. Dread to think how bad the next wave of government-grant-driven schister door-knocking contractors will mess up perfectly good homes with the promise of better insulation.

Thanks all. So, looking at the v3 Oneup, the naked version with three screw threads. Will that fit to the Sram version of the Mixmaster clamp?

Bought a 68 plate manual mk3.5 Octi vRS 245 this summer and I love it. On Skodas of this age you can permanently switch off lane assist. Very fun to drive and the perfect all round daily driver. Top vfm for the spec and performance.

Definitely think there’s room for an uber cheese biscuit to launch. Never really been blown away by the incumbents. You can select from an infinite range of cheeses and then there’s that deflation when you know you’ll only be pairing pure cheese heaven with a tepid strip of card. Cheese crackers have definitely been punching under their weight for a long time.

I’m 75kg and I ride dragging the brakes (especially the rear). Not the best method I know, but I feel more confident covering the brakes (I’m not an on-off braker).

The new Hope lever design with their larger piston two-pot caliper sounds like a good choice. I run 180 rotors back and front. For relatively short UK trails (I don’t ride abroad), is it worth sizing up rotors beyond 180 or sticking with this size to maintain more consistent heat?

Cheers, Formula Cura it is then. Seem to be popular enough for the aftermarket pad suppliers to keep supplying for them.

Premium, heavy EVs sold on lease deals so the consumer changes for a new one every three years doesn’t sound environmentally friendly. Have we all slept walked into this profit-driven model the VMs are pushing on us? The transition to EVs purely for environmental reasons would mean we’d need to adapt to motoring on a very different scale than the choice, luxury and freedom we’ve grown accustomed to. Has the world been sold a pup? (apologies if this has been argued previously)

For future reference: If the age of the OS is an issue, you might find that a different browser from the inbuilt one is better supported.

I always download Chrome to all my devices.

flathead screws look nice all aligned in the same direction

It’s called clocking. Flathead screws if you want a retro / cleaner / simpler look. Otherwise, can’t see much point.

Cheers Jimmy. I remember fitting the two screws and the actuator being fixed on the rod but I’ll double check
