My westie is 9 and has already had his cruciate ligament done at a cost of £1400 and suffers terribly from eczema, keep a very carefull eye on his skin especially on and around the change in seasons, spring and autumn.

Here is a few years ago

I have a piece of rubber hose that fits the bleed nipple on caliper, bought from my local car shop at pound a metre, a plastic evain bottle with a hole cut in the screw cap so I can put the hose through and catch the fluid, I also wrap a wire coat hanger round the top of the bottle to hang on the bike, syringes is a little tougher, baby syringes are good but only small unless your local chemist has larger like 10-20mm you may have to buy online.

I don’t wash them every time I go out if they do not have a pad, its only the pad that needs washing

I go out three times a week in winter so I can’t afford to buy three pairs of nalini tights at £70 a pop

If your buying 3/4 or tights, Don’t buy them with a pad so you can wear Lycra bibs or shorts under them…….or they’ll be forever in the wash

Get some toe covers I use the pearl Izumi ones and they fit perfect….I use nearly all year round
Try not put thick socks on as it will stop good circulation,
In winter I leave the toe on under overshoes, something neoprene to cut out the wind

When they start getting stiff, use a new or bike with new cables as a yardstick

I just don’t trust bike shops and my bikes spend more time in bits than together……I also fix and repair all my mates bikes…..I even bought a Vespa last year that run fine, took it to bits, rebuilt it, rode it 3-4 times and then sold it.

You’ll live the 2006 five……I loved mine especially the brake jack, low bottom bracket, the 5″ head tube on a small size frame, oh and the out of line rear wheel.

If they are new your pads won’t be bedded in properly that’s why your wheel won’ t lockout, or maybe if they’ve been stood for a while or of course they could he contaminated.

Try the old elastic band on the lever trick and leave overnight

Not sure were you are but fastline powdercoaters in Preston were fantastic, dipped the frame, blasted with grinding dust, powdercoated then baked, all for £50 and the job is superb.

Got a set of mt4 and I love them really nice lever feel and loads of modulation, they’re a lot like the old Shimano but look a lot better.

Oh and bleeding is a pleasure, unlike my mates avids, they are a nightmare

The last Santa cruz I bought came with a shock pump, but it had a 5th element shock on it, not sure if that matters but….

You do have to pick your line a lot better on a hard tail not just grit your teeth and ride over it knowing full well your 5″ of rear travel will deal with it, and you (or I) ,tend to ride a hard tail on the fork, which when I had both and went from a hard tail back to my full susser felt really weird hanging over the front.

I rode full sussers for years and have just gone back to hard tails can’t really tell you why…….but there is something sexy about hard tails!!!!
