We had the same with my little one a couple of years ago, wouldn’t sleep, massive temperature blotchy skin! took her to our local drop in centre and they rushed us by ambulance to the infirmary, she was treated for meningitis with antibiotics on a drip and did 4-5 days in hospital (wasn’t easy with my wife heavily pregnant with our second) but doctors were pretty sure it is a virus that mimics meningitis and scares them half to death aswel as us.

I used to work at a coach garage that took in a stray jack Russell and called it Bolllocks, which was more amusing when one of the fitters decided to take him home one weekend, he got into next doors garden and his wife had to go out and shout for bollocks.

When you say on the street I presume you mean you went for just a quick ride and in that case you may feel jittery, you need to get some speed up on the open road, but you will need proper clothing in this weather on a road bike, as said before, everything needs to be windproof. If your on a budget I’d try the stuff aldi sell I don’t particularly get on with it but plenty do, plenty I ride with do. Oh and yes you’ll need guards.

As far as hand position goes, general riding on the hoods (top of levers), climbing hoods or flat of bar and descending on the drops.

I use craft Siberian gloves and put a thin pair of roubaix gloves underneath when it gets around freezing especially on the road bike

As long as you stick with a hand biuld you can’t really go wrong, if you run shimano the 105 open pro combo seems prefect, I’ve had centuar hubs with opens pro rims for years and years and they weren’t new when I bought them, mine are heavy but in winter I’d trade realibility for weight and speed anyday, especially if you like me you ride at night on unlit roads.

I’d just steer clear of factory built wheels as if you ding a rim they can be hard to find straight away and can be a fortune to replace.

A lot of the lads I ride with seem to like ambrosio hubs with open pro rims, I think they’re be my next wheels for my winter bike

Just get the best framset you can and replace the other bits gradually over time, there will loads of sales on roadie bits soon anyway
