Went out for a spin on the hard tail earlier (I think I had the right tyres for snow)… glad no one saw me slithering along the local bridelway singing “Let it go, let it go…’ at the top of me voice.

But my heart sank when I saw it coming down this morning because I knew faceberk would be awash with crap photos of snowy driveways, garage roofs, back gardens etc etc etc… why?

I was looking forward to my annual trip to Donnington for the usual value-for-money action packed Sunday. Not sure I can be bothered/miss out on my weekend MTB ride/have permission from HID to go for both Saturday and Sunday. I really don’t know what they were thinking with this format … I guess the fans will vote with their feet.

Getting to work on a Monday morning having spent most of the weekend balls deep in your line manager daughter. After taking her home from the departmental Christmas party.

Now THAT was really would be embarrassing.

Last car I sold, the advert went into no detail – just ‘good condition for age and mileage’ kind of thing. When people turned up I showed them the small scratches & dents and bulbs gone on the dash etc. But once they were on the drive – they were already interested – that was the time to be honest. We haggled and settled on a fair price and my conscience was intact

We have, in many Western countries (esp US and UK), allowed a car-dependency culture to develop and dominate our lives and landscapes. As Morpheus puts it: “You have to understand that most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so injured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.”
Places like Holland and Denmark resisted the ‘addiction’ back in the 60’s and 70’s. I fear that we’ll never get this particular genie back in the bottle.
    We’re all doomed…

I bought a 45650b almost a year ago and it’s been great. It’s been my go-to bike for just about everything. It suits my riding – love it!

I hate that new one – that bypass near you that they are working on at the moment with its false promise of faster journey times and less traffic through village x but in reality will within a few months just be a rolling road block and make f-all difference to village x anyway. But we have to keep building as we need somewhere for the ever increasing number of cars to go …. we’re all doomed I tell you!

Decade’s fastest growth sees almost 32 million cars on the road

I’m 6 ft and tried the medium and my knees were hitting the bars too easily when turning. Went for a large and have fitted a 50mm stem and riser bars and it feels spot on now.

When we lived in France, it was a condition of the house insurance that we had a certificate to show it had been done every 12 months. We’ve sort of kept up that habit … and the log burner draws better with a clean flue in any case!

I bought a complete bike in September. Its the one with the SRAM hydraulic brakes. I bought it as a commute/tourer for all weathers (as opposed to the Evo super6). I replaced the OE wheels with Kinesis cross lights and fitted 28mm Michelin Pro4 Endurance tyres, 35mm SKS mudguards and a rack. Took a bit of fettling to get the position just right (shorter stem etc) and now I’m dead pleased with it. Quick but solid enough for the crappy roads, carries all my stuff to work and a few weeks I did a 200km audax without problem.

CARS CARS CARS CARS CARS CARS … nowt but trouble – poluting, noisy, when they move. Knocking over cyclists and pedestrians, running red lights, mobile phone use when driving etc etc. When they aren’t moving they’re a dammed nuiscance too… then there’s maintenance costs, depreciation, hassles with insurance, unidentified drivers, hit and runs and on and on and on.

When I rule (what’s left of) the world they will all be scrapped and everyone will cycle everywhere!

    Rant over

    Sorry

I was using my road bike for commuting but sold it and got a cannondale CAADX 10 with the SRAM guide hydro disc brakes. 28 mm tyres, full SKS guards and a rack for the work bag. Used for commute and club runs – the hydro discs are great, no problems and so much better than the rim brakes on my old road bike.

I had that issue on my ROAM 30s – drive side was loose after a few months. Took it out and ordered a replacement from Wych bearings using the size/code stamped on the dirt seal… having checked it in the online manual. When it arrived it was the wrong size (smaller diameter as I remember). Rang the nice man at Whych and explained – they changed it FOC and his thinking was that the people at the factory in China labelled it wrong and the person writing the manual just looked at what was mis-stamped on the bearing. The man from Whych said the replacement bearing I’d selected just on measured size would be fine – they’re nowt special. So far its been fine.
Key learnings – measure oe bearings and order based on size rather than stamped code & can’t recommend Wych enough – good range of stuff well priced, very quick delivery and great customer support.
    Hope that helps!

According to many we’re now in the Anthropocene … defined as the point where man’s activities are having a lasting effect on earth systems – atmosphere, oceans, ecosystems, etc etc. Looks pretty convincing to me ..

Whilst out on a road ride yesterday, I was pondering this: If a MAMIL is a middle-aged-man-in-lycra… what is a MILF in lycra? Only because there were a fair few out and about yesterday.

Is it MAMILF or MILFIL … or something else?

    (it was a long ride)

I’ve played guitar using TABS for years with no lessons and I’m still rubbish. A few years back I started with the piano (after kids left for Uni). I started from scratch with a teacher and it’s coming along nicely including an understanding of how the different signature keys work, what the various minims dotted crotchets quavers etc mean, timing and other why’s and wherefores. I’m not doing grades but my teacher is helping me with the music reading, pushing me through adult learining programmes and getting the fingering and all those other things right.
I’ve a mate who is doing the self taught route and he’s reaching the limits… and it looks crap – hands all over the place and doesn’t use his pinkies…etc!!

My auntie knew him and when I were a nipper I was taken often to see him recording his radio show at the BBC radio theatre somewhere in Manchester. He seemed old then – amazed he’s still going! I remember him going on and on not just in the show but in the warm up and after in the bar too. Nice bloke as I remember. He still sounds need dead sharp on t’radio this pm.
