Stuck the old chain on for today’s ride and was fine, have always changed chains fairly regularly in some sort of hope it would reduce cassette/chainring wear but guess the cassettes on the way out now. Ah well it’ll make it til end of year and then I’ll switch to 10 speed.

In a word -Yes! I too made the switch to flats after about 15 years on spds whilst working and riding in the Scottish Highlands on some real technical stuff. Started off on the cheap using a pair of skate shoes and V8’s which weren’t much use really but wanted to be sure I liked the flats before spending more cash. Eventually upgraded to dmr vaults and 5ten Sam Hills – the difference was incredible – seriously sticky, so much so that sometimes it can be harder getting my feet off the pedals than if they were clipped in. Go for it – you won’t regret it!

Agree with the Cavemen – love my spray baggys and wear them most of the year round. Have a pair of humvees that are around 8 years old and still going strong but they are definitely on the loose side of things.

This thread seems to of turned into a speed limit discussion but by Christ the op (and bails story) makes my piss boil. I drive cars, I ride bikes but I swear if that had been me I would hunt these **** down. I’m sure I’m in the minority here on stw, and by most measures I’m a reasonable and mild mannered bloke but stuff like this reminds me why I have a selection of “tools” because I’m **** if I’ll let people like this continue to get away with “writing letters of apology”.

10 min spin and I’m bang in the middle of some of N Wales most stunning scenery. 15 min of up to the top of the Llangollen DH tracks and the option of endless natural trails in every direction!
15min in van or 3/4 hr pedal to Llandegla, Marin, Penmachno,Antur Steinog & CYB all well under an hrs drive – not to bad I don’t reckon.

Hah was just watching it thinking that looks a nice forest 4a spin through!

Why can’t I get out on the bike? Second beautiful weekend in a row, spent the last 1 in the pub and although had a wedding on Friday and was a bit tender yesterday, thought I might get a few miles in today, but no – even got the bike out the shed but just didnt feel like it. Starting to wind myself up now, anyone else been like this?

That is 1 darn fine looking bike Iain! Wish I hadn’t started reading this thread ( and the other linked soul one!) as I was quite happy with the contents of my shed when I woke this morning, I shall now be mostly spending the evening doing some soul (geddit?!) searching 🙄

Dunno about as few pumps as a track pumps but my lyzene alloy drive has never failed 2 reinflate my 2.2 rubber queens ust out on the trail. Might of actually broke a sweat doing it but got there in the end!
