You should be able to figure out if the female part is too long by seeing if it comes through to the front side of the rings too much, if it is file it down, simples !!

The length of the male one is less critical, just makes it harder to get the tool on properly to tighten the last bit down.

what rings are you fitting to what spider, sounds like the bolts are too long to me if they wont nip up.

We just swapped over, you can get a quote online pretty quickly, premium was around £300, was paying that with our mortgage provider, its a bit of a no brainer for the level of cover they provide.

Didn't Shedon Brown used to work at a bike shop?

How the hell do i know that !!

Anyways, i would personally get it done for the sake of a tenner !!

And if you are can you show me some evidence that is from an impartial source and not a manufacturer of parts that 'require' facing or a manufacturer of tools that 'face'.

Well that might be difficult really dont you think ? But is Sheldon Brown good enough ?

    Facing
The process of finishing the flat surfaces of the frame and fork to which bearing assemblies attach. Correct facing of the head tube, fork crown, and bottom bracket shell ensures correct alignment of the headset and bottom bracket bearings. This is necessary to ensure good bearing performance and reliability.

Oh and this is a load of crap because if the threads arnt parallel then no matter what you do the cups wont be concentric to one another. Just closer.

I hope to hell you are not an engineer, if you are we are all ****.

So as i said all facing does is move the bb cups closer together.

I am afraid you are off the mark with that comment, its all to do with getting the bearings in line as best you can

This is what park have to say on the matter:

Additionally, some bearing system benefit from having the faces of the shell square to improve bearing adjustment and bearing longevity. If the shell faces are deformed, and are not parallel to one another, the left and right bearing may not be concentric to one another. Machining the shell face improves concentricity.

It doesnt matter on little bit

i think you are missing the point ?

Its not about BB shell width, its about getting both faces square so the axle is in line with the bearings is it not ?

i think the gap is closing quickly on the handbuilt crew, i run Fulcrum Red Metal 5's and cant fault them, yet to try and find a spoke in a hurry thought which seems to be the main problem with factory wheels

the "Honda" bike looks awful with that stickers set on ot, i'd take the spesh

I second that, apart from it looks fuggin awful, i hate frames with bulbus head tubes and then 1/8" steerers sticking through like a matchstick.

    Go for the Spesh

If you want shimano you can fit either SLX but they are only Center Lock, otherwise its LX\XT if you want 6 Bolt, i cant comment if anything else would be suitable, i just used the XT ones.

At the price point they are at they are fine, however i dont think they are as good as a Thermarest, the blurb says they are as light as a Thermarest but i dont think they are (i have a slim airic and 2 Thermarests) and to me they dont seem to pack as small as Thermarests either.

If you do more than 20-30 nights a year under canvas then personally i would go for Thermarest.

On my work bike i took the cable and shifter off and screwed the stops in until its in the right position chainline wise, the shorten the chain so the rear mech is under tension all the time

It depends where you are riding really ?

If you pop over to Charliethebikemonger.co.uk you can get an A2Z kit with a 16 and 18 tooth sprocket, my plan is to see what suits and swap the sprocket to a surly one which look a bit more robust

By the way Charlie helped me loads with getting the right chainring sorted, well worth visiting and buying stuff off IMHO, his service was superb.
