SLX cranks, 40g lighter, about 40% stiffer than XTs.

Eh, you sure, not according to this, SLX are heavier than XT:

The general rule of thumb i seem to remember is spend 10-20% of the value of your kit but no more on cables, sounds fine to me. Spend £100 on an amp and £100 on a CD player and spend a max of £40 on cables.

Have you ever stopped to think how many deliveries there are a day and the failure rate as a percentage, i will bet its small.

I think the best thing to do is just do it, and don't tell anyone.

Thats exactly the way most jobbing builders are doing it, i.e. if you are happy to accept it then they will do it.

IMO of course, not suggesting everybody is bent and ignoring part P !!

You will struggle to buy a bad set at that price range from a big name, they are all pretty much the same in terms of performance, it comes down to what you like the look of and what features you require.

I suspect you will need to use Vodafones SMTP server for outgoing on the mobile connection, it might let you use this at home on Wi-Fi, otherwise you will need to look at getting an authenticated SMTP service….i think.

A TT setup is a slightly different matter though really isnt it, not one we are talking about here…..

The OP was talking about racing and sportives, anything over 50mm in an amateur bunch in windy conditions would be asking for a crash, i wouldnt use a deep secition in these circumstances myself.

Btw, 30mm is not very deep section. Its 50mm+ you have to worry about cross winds.

Its not very deep, but add in the area if you are using bladed spokes and you can easily get blown around with a 30-50mm rim, i have.

How many spokes have you ever broken ? I think this tends to be a bit of a non issue, unless you know what you are doing you will still need a bike shop to replace a standard spoke.

I can think i have probably broken less than 5 spokes in 20 years of riding\racing, most of them on standard Hub\Rim combos for that matter, i have only ever broken one spoke on a set of factoy wheels, and that was an old pair of Campag Eurus.

I would steer well clear of deep section aero (i.e above 30mm) for sportives, you dont want to be caught in side winds on the top of a moor somewhere, they can get affected pretty badly.

I can't believe anyone would spend £500 on a set of racing wheels and use clinchers. Would you put re-moulds on a ferrari?

Strange outlook, are you 65 and own a wool jersey by any chance ?

Quite a few pro teams and certainly a load more lower division teams on clinchers now, tubs are an utter arse ache unless you have a mechanic to do it for you of course.

I have one, not used it much, from the few shots i have taken it looks good, the mode dial is a constant annoyance though as it gets moved too easily, also factor in a spare battery, they appear to be pretty power hungry.

Never heard of crazy cameras, personally i would go for amazon, too many dodgy cheap camera sites around to save a tenner.

Bike is unrideable as the rotor jams in the caliper every rotation

Am i been fick here, if the rotor jams every rotaion then the rotor is bent ?

If its was the frame that was bent it would not turn at all and the rim would be nearer the chain\seat stay when static ?
