Because by the time you have bought the SLX chainset and a decent SS chainring you are within £20 of the price of a SS specific Middleburn, i like the look of SLX though so thats what i have.

Just join a local club\team that offers subsidised\free kit (if free kit turns you on that is), enter the races and enjoy the racing, if you are good enough you will get picked up sooner or later.
I am 5"10" (11" at a push) and after speaking to Cy have gone for a medium too, going for a 90mm stem with straight seatpost and going to see what happens, they are quite long looking at the dimensions so the large would be a bit reach i think even for me, waiting for mine too…..
I went through all this last year and after doing a bit of research was inclined to think that ski boot fitting for the mere mortal is a bit of very clever sales and marketing to get you to spend even more money than you need to.
