How many bikes have you designed and sold..?

    ?

are we only allowed to comment on design and manufacturing if we are in the trade?

who in their right minds builds a 6″ travel bike with only the provision for a 27.2 post

i’d not even noticed that. why build a bolt on tower in a smaller diameter than FS/Alu standard? that’s completely illogical…

for the record i have a 26″ wheeled 5 inch traveled FS bike from a very major brand.

i am not on the niche 29er bandwaggon.

whether anyone else spends 4k on a ti niche 29er frame or not… that empire is fookin daft.

    it’s cast isn’t it?

think bits of it are, then machine finished. – still not exactly an efficient concept.

and (as they boast) the back end is proper machined from solid…

bosh. good stuff adam. there’s a man that talks sense.

CNC milling and casting have a place, and could be used to make a really exciting structure that you couldn’t do with tubes….

but they haven’t. they’ve made a very basic frame structure. and therefore tubes and hollow structures are far and away a better solution.

The choice of material to keep everything in the right place plus how the material is formed is secondary, isn’t it?

not if they are chosen for the sake of being chosen and different, and at the expense of sense and function.

weight of mud aside… how much of it is going on the shock?

but, in it’s defense (and whilst it is staggeringly overpriced) the orange is built using reasonably efficient and sensible manufacturing methods.

and since the orange is the butt of SO many jokes, why remake it?

hmmm. a cutting edge solution there then…

only prob with mine is that it is HEAVY.

works fine though… does your bike twist around when mounted on turbo?

    tracknicko

hmm ok. but that’s another question.

meanwhile, high single pivot, bolt on interrupted seat tube, short headtube, ugly as sin.

    Hi guys.

I’m on the other thread (gundog owner currently)

The mrs and I are considering a second pup when we move (not particularly soon i might add)

We love whippets. Can anyone tell me their daily routine? I appreciate the run/sleep thing. But are they highly strung when they are awake?

We walk the lab for an hour at 7am and an hour at about 6pm. he gets thrashed in this time, and basically sleeps for the rest of the the day and night (plus a little evening play time)

we mix it up a bit of course, he rides with me when i’m mtbing for example…

reckon a whippet would fit in at the household?

    subjective i know…

I turned to tell him we’d missed our turning, he looked behind him and crashed into me; I didn’t brake but no doubt I had slowed down in the process of telling him we had gone the wrong way. I didn’t expect him to be that close to me, we were just spinning along.

    you caused the crash.

cooling rather than heating would be the issue imo.
who wants to live in a greenhouse/warehouse? and then where do you hide from the heat? in a cardboard box propped up in the corner.

    shite.

What are you doing here exactly?

thats a question with a depressing answer. not sure really. just my 2p for an interesting debate and lively conversation.

    your spending priorities seem sensible.

£550 for wheels is mid-range these days let’s be honest!

what they ask for, and thus define as THE range is very, very different from what i’d pay and thus consider MY range.

£550 is a staggering amount of money for something i/we are going to drag through slop and land sideways on like a bag of spanners.

I guess you either embrace winter or you nancy around in the trees.

    ha ha!

i typically road ride rather than mtb at night so that is sans trees, but you get off the top of the climbs quicker.

riding mtb over stanage, hope cross etc. and thus nibbling round on the most exposed bits in deepest darkest winter at 5mph just aint that fun to me.

We also took loads of time off and worked from home most of the week while he was a little pup.

i think this is key. once they settle they will sleep all day, but when very young they can be a bit of a handful, and you’ll really see the benefit if they got a lot of decent interaction with you and your family.

10 years or very wet basements and no excessive corroding.

you do get mould on saddles and grips if left for a while mind…

They do quite clearly state on the Merlin website they are the euro way round, and by implication in the listings of pre-cut lengths of hoses they were originally OEM for bike building, hence wont come with hose-shortening bits.

Nowt Merlin have done wrong really.

didnt know this. furry muff i say.

I bought a Pitch, and it’s brilliant at what it does best. Unfortunately, that means it’s rubbish at XC.

that is a scary thought as i regularly ride xc with folks who are on pitchs… and they dont seem remotely slower.

maybe i’m less fit than i had hoped!

i had a look at the mtr in 18 bikes. pucka racefit rain stopper.

doens’t look like a warm one though, just a proper active shell.

think 18 were doing it for a good price too, give then a shout.

hmm i’ not sure. i have all P’s certificates which show his lineage if you want to compare!

breeders are near matlock. Barney (the dad) is something of a show poney with associated awards, stats and certificates. mother also certificated and what not, but sleeker working lines.

nice small breeders for those that are interested, would definitely recommend.

P’s father was HUGE. he is growing at a fantastic rate and currently is about 32kg at 10mo

Indy is 22.5kg at 9 months! Then again – he is from full working stock and his mum was quite slight, so I’m not expecting him to be a monster of a dog even when he’s full grown.

i know! i don’t have a good picture of his father (nothing in the pic for scale) but on his hind legs while propped up in his run he could quite easily look me in the eye (im 6,3)…

    edit:

as i said. no scale. but his head is the size of a football.

be better to have a big stack of hand warmers in the boot than all this fannying around for a cuppa.

Interesting discussion, especially how lights are so bright it defeats the point of night riding.

that’s an interesting perspective. i consider night riding to be a necessity rather than a vocational activity.

if i want to ride in winter during the week, it will be dark. and by winter i mean october to april ish…

Ever? Got your own private trail centre or something?

hmm no not really – just never really see anyone out… i once bumped into three lads that were riding dh, but that’s about it.

we’re talking about a nationally-known woodland as well. famed for bicycle usage.

seen quite a few doggers in my time mind!

what Nicko means, is that the footpaths around his end of sheffield are even quiet in the daytime, in summer, at the weekend, when it’s national ‘go for a walk’ day…

yeh i think that’s what i mean. ride somewhere quieter? less infuriating lights in face that way!

    tracknicko

Er, so you only have to show some courtesy if there are lots of other people around? Hmmm

no i mean if i go for a night ride i wont see anyone else out…

, our Lab comes from show stock (we met the breeder at Crufts), her half brother (same father) is a super stocky and quite tall and has arthritis quite badly now at only 6 or 7 years.

that’s sad. P’s dad is show stock, mum is working lines.

hopefully end up somewhere in the middle. think his dad is the biggest lab i have ever seen in the flesh. absolute bear-faced monster of a dog.
