I have about 4 helmets and swap them around regularly. Never ever washed one though…

before an oil spill on a damp day saw me slide into a lamppost on a dual carriageway and need cutting out of the car

And why would you not buy one after that endorsement …😂😬😳

I remember the first time I drove my boxster in the wet. The garage selling it had cheaped out on tyres and I almost ended up in a hedge accelerating off a round about. I replaced the very next day with something a bit more suitable..

The IMS bearing issue can be solved by drilling the bearing case so it is no longer starved of oil.   There are a few places that can do it – but it is possible 2.5k upwards to be done

the usual fix is an aftermarket ceramic bearing which costs north of 650 quid. That’s for the part. It’s a clutch out job to fix (or it is for a 986), so you may as well replace that at the same time. If I was spending any sort of money on that vintage of 911 I’d be factoring in the ims replacement which on a boxster cost me over 3 k 8 years ago (I replaced the clutch at same time)

it’s not actually the parts that will ruin you if you have a Porsche, after market parts can be had for a decent price. It’s the labour costs. Main dealers are extortionate. If you can find a good Indy then that’s definitely the way to go.

i can also confirm the best part of Porsche ownership is the first week of ownership. The novelty of accelerating fast soon wears off, you can’t (and shouldn’t) be driving it fast on the roads, and then the bills start rolling in..

How TF are you only getting 15mpg out of a Boxster?

Yeah I’m actually talking crap. A quarter of a tank gets me around 80 miles of b road driving, and looking at the car specs thats around 23 mpg

it does feel I’m constantly filling it up however!

Another cheap skate boxster owner here

270 bhp is more than enough for road use. One thing that always strikes me is how much ‘faster’ it feels to drive than my big saloon mazda 6, even when you are going slower. On a country road 60 in the boxster feels much much faster.

its surprisingly practical as well with two boots. And you can pick them up for peanuts.

downsides are it gets through petrol at the rate of about 15/ gallon, and maintenance is a pain due to it being mid engined. Cost me well north of 3 k to replace the clutch, and that involved replacing the ims (700 quid for a bearing😳) which can be an issue on old 986 and 911 cars. And if that goes it’s basically going to write off your car.

am aware how utterly ridiculous this sounds from someone who used to smoke 20 B&H a day

If I was considering 300 quid on that stem I’d probably look at going the whole hog and buying a suspension fork if one will fit your bike. I just picked up a fox tc for 500 quid and it is brilliant, no unwanted bobbing, really smooths out the front end. bit heavy though and doesn’t look as good as a normal fork

i had a redshift before hand, it was brilliant, so much so that I decided to give the fox a go to see if it was even better. It is..

stealth ad, I have a mint condition 90mm redshift for sale if anyone wants it.

    Without seeing the T&Cs

I have a copy in front of me!

it would seem that there must be some protection otherwise an astute insurer would just monitor social media for companies that go into consultation and drop the policies of those insured during the consultation period

I suspect they’d be on a sticky wicket if they cancelled individual policies after any announcement of restructuring in the news tbf. But regardless, there was no way I was going to be made redundant at that point anyway given I’m critical to a project until early next year. I would have happily kept paying the premium if they hadn’t cancelled however, as who knows what will potentially happen after that.

    not just posted it

they aren’t even trying to pretend I received it and fully acknowledge they cocked up.

I’m also surprised if the policy only covers redundancy.  What about injury or illness?

Specifically only covered redundancy on my policy. Work covers me for the others so it wasn’t required. Nowadays you can’t get redundancy only, it’s packaged with injury and illness, hence why it’s far more expensive to find a new policy

edit..the ts and c’s also specifically calls out the fact you need to continue to make payment during the period of redundancy to continue to receive payment from the insurance if you claim. Which would clearly be impossible if they’ve shut down the product!

In one sentence you say you kept paying because it would cost you more to replace it, and then you say if you’d known that if the policy was going to stop then you’d have cancelled earlier – this makes no sense at

If they told me in May they are cancelling the product, and I can no longer claim after 30th June, then it would have been clear to me that it was no longer worth paying for. For a starter my consultation and notice period would mean I’d still have been employed on 30th June and therefore couldn’t have benefited from it (even if I’d been informed of any impending redundancy the day I received the letter)

So by not telling me, I paid for at least 2 months protection that I couldn’t possibly benefit from.

    What is your loss?

well at least 150 quid straight off the bat from 2 months premiums I wouldnt otherwise have paid

I’m not disputing the fact they can withdraw a product. I’m disputing the fact they cocked up and didn’t inform me as they are obliged to do in their own t’s and c’s.

Ford don’t make the Escort anymore, they must owe me, surely?

great analogy, thanks for your input 👍

It’s the banks product, they were involved in making the decision to cancel it

I’m not entirely sure what you’re expecting?

well at the very least, by not notifying me I spent an extra 2 months on premiums that I want back. I also don’t think it’s remotely fair that they only need to give 2 months notice (even the lady I spoke to thought it was 6). So I will be asking for at least that amount of month’s premiums back as I would have canceled as soon as i became aware.

the other point is they are in breach of the contract as they did not notify me of the termination. They are so useless they wrote to me 2 months after the termination date informing me that my address has been updated so I can now receive statements!

I’m certainly not expecting 7k back, but I am expecting a bare min of 2 months premiums!

So I got a response. Apparently they sent a cancellation letter on the 9th May, telling me they were withdrawing cover on the 30th June. They withdrew cover as they decided they no longer wanted to offer this kind of cover as a product . I never got the letter as they had not changed the address on the system (they have admitted this error) I have several issues with this.

    1. firstly, how on earth are they allowed to withdraw a product that I have been paying into for 12 years at less than 2 months notice? That would not give me time to arrange any kind of replacement cover as there is usually at least a 3 month exclusion on these products

2 . they claim they have not offered this product to new customers for over 10 years. As such it’s pretty clear that they knew fairly well in advance of may they were planning to withdraw this cover. If I’d know that I would have cancelled immediately as my role is was fairly secure for time being, the likelyhood of me losing my role in the period between them making the decision to withdraw and the end of my policy would be minimal. He only reason I kept paying is that I knew further down the line it may be hard to find such an insurance product at a comparable price. They even admitted on the phone that they would usually give 6 months notice of withdrawal

    3. they claim that in the ts&cs they can terminate the insurance by notifying me. They didn’t notify me, hence they are in breach of their own conditions I’m not usually one to claim compensation from a company, however given I’ve worked out I’ve put 7k into the policy, I don’t t feel they’ve followed due process, and more importantly it’s an insurance company (so screw them), I’ve submitted a complaint

300 quid seems about right if I’m honest, not that that will make you feel better when you are having to fork out on something that has broken through no real fault of your own..

speaking of fault, that pothole is ridiculous.. hitting that in a car would do serious damage. Hitting it on a bike you are lucky you only broke your rim..

I use to subscribe purely for the forum (never read the mag or any articles) but got fed up of paying for something that didn’t work so now am a free member

as I no longer pay I don’t really feel I have any right to complain when it doesn’t work. Which is fairly often tbh.

I’d probably resubscribe if the experience was better though…

yes I did, as to take out similar to what I had on a new policy will cost double what I was paying.

no idea what the T&Cs of your policy are.

I remember what it paid out, what it covered and the exclusions. I don’t remember. I can’t remember any small print about them being able to cancel without telling me..

Have you changed your postal address, email address or phone number in the last 12 years? Any chance they have told you but using old contact details?

Hmm actually this is relevant and I omitted perhaps important info in op. In august Barclays (who I took the policy out with but aren’t the policy provider apparently) contacted me saying they had failed to update my address on the system and we’re going to give me 50 quid as ‘compensation for inconvenience’. the inconvenience quoted being that I wouldn’t have received statements. Apparently the issue was rectified. They certainly never mentioned anything about my policy being canceled

if their cock up has meant I’ve had my policy cancelled then I’d be expecting far more than 50 quid compensation tbh

I’ve tried mailing them, they don’t accept calls! I took it out 12  years ago so no idea what the contract says tbh.

I saw an interview with him with Piers Morgan. I’m fairness to piers he didn’t agree with anything he said.

Barton is an idiot. His whole defense was it should be best person for the job rather than tokenism (something I kind of agree with), yet was utterly stumped when it was pointed out that Alex Scott, a woman capped over 100 times by England, with a degree in journalism, wasn’t a suitable candidate

he then ran himself in circles proclaiming in one breath that he wasn’t against woman as long as they were qualified, in the next that the men’s game was fundamentally different to the woman’s. All the time claiming he wasn’t sexist, whilst refusing to acknowledge the point about Ms scott

came across as not particularly bright (putting it kindly)

I try to buy as much as I can that’s made in the UK.

each to their own but my experience has been somewhat different. 2 sets of Hope brakes were distinctly average, my exposure strada is horrifically overpriced and the run time is crap, and the orange 5 I had was significantly worse that the specialized that quickly replaced it

chinese products are every bit as good as uk manufactured ones ime, and significantly cheaper. That said I wouldn’t be buying these brakes at that price..

Ffs..I have lived in Kirkcaldy on and off for nearly 47 years, and when we finally get a mention in the national news, it’s to cover some plump oddball who should have had any notion of carrying on like that beaten out of him in the park on the walk home from school..

I can’t see a ‘real life’ pic of the stem in that colour on their site. I must say I’d be a bit miffed if I thought I was getting the stem pictured on the website, only for it to turn up in a cat sick shade of brown. Is there a pic on the site that does accurately depict the colour?

    if not..

if a company is selling something as not as described and refusing a refund then they deserve to be flamed. If that sinks them then that’s on them for being a bit shit. It’s not the Op’s concern.

Whilst using my libre sensor I was very conscious of what I ate. The blood sugar numbers were good, but I really struggled to maintain weight. I eat a lot of pasta, and in 3 weeks I lost about 3kg. Which would be good if I was overweight, but not so good when I felt I was at the ideal weight already. And I was constantly hungry

    diabetic is 45+)

    in the uk it’s 48..

    Watching with interest

my hba1c has shot up from 33 to 39 in a year so I’m right on borderline. Need to make some changes in the The new year. Definitely feel ready meals for 20 years has been a factor

invested in one of those libre things earlier in year for a month and it was shocking seeing how high my numbers went, although they did come down within the expected time

Didn’t think there was such a thing as a 11 speed axs road shifter? The only etap road shifter that sram made in 11 speed was old red 11 speed. The shifters don’t work with axs mechs (although the axs shifters work with the 11 speed mechs)

    Pump and anchovies

Use to carry the Stan’s dart thing. In principle a convenient solution, but only time I used it it didn’t seal (I’d damaged the tape as well, so not the plugs issue) and then had a hell of a time removing it so I could subsequently fit a tube (for those that aren’t aware the plug is a very pointy dart like object. ). I’d also question what it would do if you bottomed it out against a carbon rim.

I thought about that but I’d need to permanently remove one of the springs. Also, I’m not convinced  of the robustness of removing 33% of the pawls!
