Look up your local shot blasting place. I recently did similar and got mine shot blasted and powder coated for around £60.

Yes, seriously, because many of these ‘aids’ are nothing of the sort, they’re just manufacturers getting carried away with all the whizzy new electronics and fancy selling points to try to flog new cars. All of the really important safety aids are already built into pretty much every modern car, everything else is just sparkly glitz.

Just because you drove some cars to Cornwall for your job (I think you might have mentioned it once or twice), doesn’t qualify you as an expert in vehicle and system design.  The newer aids might not provide the step change in safety that existing aids such as ABS, ESP, airbags, etc did, but they make incremental improvements to safety which all add up. Existing systems such as ABS and ESP are also improving all the time, partly aided by the better system integration – aka whizzy electronics.  There is a lot more to making a car function than a touchscreen

I’d happily pay £5 more to get the same thing without branding on it. I really dislike my bike looking like a shopping list of bike brands

Comrie croft? Cheap camping or lodge type accommodation, trails literally on your doorstep, great cafe on site. Nice area of the world to explore too

Go to lockwoods in Leamington, they will be able to help and you can buy in person

I’m not sure anybody thinks death is a suitable punishment (well certainly not me anyhow), but there is an inevitability to kids thrashing these things around.

Overall, it is tragic for all involved.

Personally I think the police need greater powers/to do more/better resourcing to do so

I’m not sure the kids rioting in Cardiff are that up to speed with the politics of the Met police over the past few weeks.

That’s not to say that what happened isn’t a tragedy, but two things can be true at once – the police force are a shambles with their communication following this event, and these kids shouldn’t have been messing about and the police are within their rights to prevent antisocial behaviour.

    A mix of stuff.

Decent cycle provision, decent public transport and driving. Also social measures like using the planning system to stop “out of town” food shopping – so every town and village retains its local shops.

Driving will always have to remain a part of the mix but experience from other countries shows it can be a much smaller part and also less damaging –

    Exactly

Is ACC really worth the 10-15 grand mission creep? I have it on my car and it is good, but it’s not the end of the world (to me at least). I don’t know your personal situation; maybe you are swimming in cash with mortgage paid off etc, in which case perhaps 10-15k is no big deal to you, but that’s a serious chunk of money. Especially when you have a really nice car sat there with a towbar rack already.

For the prices you are looking at now, you could keep the skoda for when you have accommodation sorted, and buy an older van for when you want to sleep in it. You are well and truly into mission creep – especially if you are spending so much money that you won’t be able to do the trips you wanted to do.

@mert it sounds like you work for Volvo… any recommendations for diagnostics tools for a 2020 V90?

You can set the heated seats to automatically turn on when you get into the car if it is less than 10degC outside. As a result, I rarely touch the heated seat controls. There is a separate button for front and rear screen heating, so it’s only really the ambient temperature you need to use the screen for day to day. Buttons would be better, but I think the Volvo interface is a lot better than some other manufacturers

Less practice? They should bring back unlimited in season testing as long as it is within the cost cap. Give the fans something extra to follow

Other than the imperative to minimise fuel consumption, which is the point here.

The two main factors that determine the drag of a car are weight for lower speeds, and aerodynamic efficiency (frontal area x drag coefficient) for higher speeds.

So taxing based predominantly on these two factors because they are easily measured (unlike other factors such as engine efficiency/emissions – see diesel gate) makes sense. But the car manufacturers will resist that because it doesn’t work in their favour by creating loopholes that can be exploited
