He broke the engine mount bolts (iirc) on his Passat the day before going on holiday, so urgently needed a car with a tow bar

This thread is all a bit harsh on molgrips. He bought a car as a distressed purchase (ignoring why it was a distressed purchase…..!), it turned out that there is a fault. He couldn’t fix that immediately without ruining a family holiday, so as soon as his holiday was over he has tried to understand the issue so he can dispute it with the dealer. Now it is booked in with the dealer – the whole process seems reasonable to me.

…. Or the trader realises that there is a risk of buying cars at auction with issues, and builds this probability into the price that he sells the car at. Dealers have a duty to make sure the cars are free of faults, or rectify them. If they didn’t, joe public may as well just buy direct from the auctions

Yes you are right, I stand corrected. Not quite a dual mass flywheel, but it uses the same type of dual mass system that’s dmf has within the AT.

    Good luck getting it sorted.

Centrifugal pendulum damper = dual mass flywheel.

I’m happy to stand corrected, but torque converter automatics don’t require a dmf. Are you sure you aren’t confusing the torque converter with the dmf in the diagram you have seen?

Don’t blame yourself, it wasn’t your fault. Please look after yourself and consider seeking help too.

For what it’s worth you come across as a really good guy on here, you are a good person who has had to witness something terrible. That’s not your fault

I bought some rapanui ones and they very quickly lost their shape.

    You could try carhartt

On many cars the mileage is stored on many ecus across the car so it is possible to detect just the engine ecu being updated

Nilfisk is the blue one you had in your mind. I believe that they have metal pump bodies, as opposed to plastic ones in karchers which can crack

£1/2 million in assets, plus pensions on top, and you want to “get around” paying CGT? With all the needy people in the world, that doesn’t seem very ethical to me….

Sockpuppet +1. House price inflation has outstripped wage inflation for many years now. Ultra low interest rates, increasing lending multiples from historic x 3 main earner wage, increase in mortgage terms to 30+ years; these are all just tools to try and keep the monthly payments affordable. Logically at some point these measures will run out of steam, but there have been people saying that for a long time, it hasn’t happened yet.

TR – accusing CZ of being authoritative is a bit rich coming from you. Also, if you read around the rest of the forum, you might realise that trying to pick an argument with CZ right now is not a nice thing to do.

    Give it a rest.

No pics, but mine is very similar to somafunk’s, with pre cut oak worktop from one of the online worktop places. I got the table frame custom made to size from stoaked.co.uk – arrived within a couple of weeks and fits the space perfectly.

I also made a monitor stand from some left over wooden worktop, so i have 2 monitors on the stand, and the laptop lives underneath the stand. There is also space for workbook/notes, freeing up more space on the desk

To the ofo users – how good are they for tall people (6’4)?

Yes, they do have massive wealth, but some context is required. I find it hard to understand how people can’t have some compassion for a guy who lost his mother at a young age, in terrible circumstances, whilst being watched by the world. Ignoring the debate about how much the actions of the palace may have led to his mother’s death, he then grows up, gets married and then sees his wife being hung out to dry by the very people who should be looking out for him and his family. This is his chance to put the record straight, bypassing the media who make his life so difficult. He was born into the royal family, he didn’t choose that life. I’m not a royalist at all, I just have compassion for the guy (and his new family)

Would you feel comfortable explaining to a doctor or nurse who has spent the last year dealing with covid in ITU that it’s ok to have a party, because the guy is normally polite?

Numbers might be coming down, but thousand of people are still catching this deadly disease every day, and hundreds are dying every day. We may have become insensitive to it, but behaviour like that is causing people to die. If you saw somebody drink driving, would you just ignore it?

It’s not about being outraged. It’s about people realising that the latest fashion of having a wood burner, isn’t the best idea for the environment, and encouraging others to reconsider their choices.

Before you get defensive, it’s clear that some people don’t have many other options, and if you use them properly, they can burn relatively cleanly. The key point is that many people don’t use them properly, and don’t need to rely on them.

Have a similar decision to make myself, at the same price you are looking at you can also get an e class.

Not really, we want it to be wider than the one we currently have, and it’s pretty old fashioned. The newer ones look a lot neater, but are coming out in the region of £4-5k!

To those of you who have shade sails, have you mounted them off the walls of your house? I could mount off 3 walls, and put in one post, but I’m concerned about the loading on the walls if we get unexpected high winds when the sail is up.

Why don’t you wait until it opens, pop your head around the door, and see what it is like?

Rotor – the nice thing about the awning is that it can be removed. When I’m looking out the window in the winter, I’d prefer not to be looking at a structure or some sort, and having light into the hose reducedx

We currently have a tatty old awning that was there when we bought the house, it’s actually really good, a more modern one would do the job. Prices seem to be coming out at 4-5k, that’s too steep. Perhaps I need to look at shade sails more seriously – any recommendations for decent ones? Lots of cheap ones on eBay etc, but I imagine they won’t last much more than a year

I’ve thought about it, the two things that are putting me off are

    1. I would need an extra post (or two – it could be supported on 3 sides)
    2. I’ve not been able to find anything about loading on the walls in higher winds. The nice thing about the awning is that you can retract it quickly if the winds pick up, so the worry about loading on the walls is less of an issue.

Sounds like he is motivated to buy the house for whatever reason, seemingly to make money if he has bought other houses, so why would you sell it under value, albeit slightly. Using an agent may introduce competition (if the house is good) so may well cover its own costs. Failing that, get a valuation from an agent and offer it to him at price + £x

If you have excel, resize all rows and columns to be the same height as width, then use the grid to plan it out, with each cell representing a 10x10cm square. Easy to make standard size cabinets and copy and paste into place. Only 2d though obviously
