Had a bit of trouble seating a WTB Raddler (700 x 40C) the other week, i’d previously set up a WTB Nano (700 x 40c) using a borrowed Topeak Booster pump, with about 100psi discharged from the tank.
Raddler wasn’t having none of it, had to charge about 160psi into the tank, right at the pumps limit before it would seat the rim. Got there in the end. think it depends on the tyre tbh, I’ve never had any problems with MTB tyres either.
I’ve just bought a Giant Control Tank for future endeavours, looks like a rocket launcher…..hope it works like one.

Looks like The Pilgrims way just up from Snodland @ta11pau1?

I have a Revolt 0 which will accept 650b wheels, i’ve just bought some WTB Nano’s but i’m seriously considering getting some 650b’s with 12mm axles and sticking on some fatter tyres to see how different it is.

Hi, I had a 2014 Trance 27.5 2, very identical service life, out twice a week on it, all seasons, 4 tours of Wales and 1 tour of The Lakes, decided last year to replace it with……… another Trance.
This time spent a bit more than last time but got a great deal on an ex demo 2019 Trance 1.
Trance 27.5 2 was a good bike for me, no major part failures just wear and tear, so much i sold it to a work colleague who’s more than chuffed with it.
This persuaded me to press the button on another ( i did look at other brands, for a little bit) with no regrets whatsoever.

Hi, after some info really, currently riding a 2016 revolt and have been looking to upgrade for a while. The Arkose X that is currently being offered by Evans at just over £1000 has caught my eye at such a good discount.
However unsure about the 650b wheels on a drop bar ride . My mtb is 650b my revolt is 700c is there anything noticeable with the dirlfferent wheel size. I quite like the idea that you can interchange to 700c if you require. Also my revolt is 3 x 9 how does a 1 x 11 compare when commuting etc etc. Thank you for your time.

I had a Revolt frame crack on the rear upper chain stay where the 2 meet with a brace.
Had a complete replacement bike rather than just a frame as it was less costly for the dealer to supply a new bike than spend time stripping it down and rebuilding.
So in terms of Giant’s warranty, no problems here.

Not left a wheel in the car park but have left a Garmin in the middle of a car space in Afan.
Realised 20 minutes later after returning to our campsite, got a lift back to the car park expecting it to be gone but yep it was still there also with people still milling around too.
    Lucky really.

1st ride out this year in the Lakes on the Loughrigg Loop i noticed an annoying squeal/squeak coming from the rear wheel.
Got back that night and decided to try and sort the problem with GT85.
Thought it might be the jockey wheels so gave them a bit of a squirt.
Then thought maybe it was the hub, so tipped the bike upside down on it’s saddle and bars and sprayed in between the hubs and qr’s and left it hoping it might do the trick.
Wasn’t till the morning when i had a little lap in Glenridding car park that i realised that the GT85 had dripped down onto my brake pads and contaminated them resulting in zero stopping power.
The problem was we were due to climb up to the top of Helvellyn that day and come back down again.
not a problem going up but definitely an issue on the descent.
So at the top of Helvellyn I had to try and remove the oil with a combination of sand paper from a puncture repair kit and alcohol wipes from the first aid kit, much to my riding buddies amusement.

    Never again……..possibly……

    Hi

I’ve converted a Giant Revolt and a Defy with the conduct hydraulic converter kit.
Both bikes originally came with TRP Spyre mechanical disk brakes which were ok but on wet days weren’t very confidence inspiring.
Upgrading for me has given me more confidence in stopping quicker, not quite MTB standard but very close.
Tenfoot is right about the reduction of space on the handlebars for accessories but i can get an Exposure Joystick bracket on under the cables and my Garmin goes on the stem so i don’t need any more space.
I don’t mind how they look either as i spend more time looking where i’m going rather than at my bars…. ;-)
Mine work well with the discs that came with the bikes and the pads are Giant branded but can be swapped for Shimano B01S pads, although i haven’t bothered as mine are fine.

So all in all i’m very happy with them, hope this helps.

Not noticed it when i descend but i always find if i’m wearing spd’s ill always click out with the left foot first.

might be something to do with kerb location, although i’ll do this even when i’m on the trail.

I’ve had one for over a year now, stopped using my Garmin 510 Edge when i bought it.

As it was a new product at the time, there were a few teething issues with the software but that has now all been ironed out and i love mine.

I bought mine from Germany and the blue strap model wasn’t available at the time.

So i bought a blue strap separate through my local bike shop who in turn went through their Lezyne dealer (Upgrade Bikes).

So  I now have a choice of blue or black strap when i fancy a change.

    Rarely use the Garmin now.

Hi, used to live along the D739, 11 km’s from Mansle.

Lovely part of the world, very rural and as paulx says, lots of undulating countryside which is usually full of road cyclists as the roads are very quiet.

Lots of road cycling clubs too but also plenty of woodland of which i used to ride with the local school teacher, however we were always aware of the presence of members of the Chasse and their dogs and rifles, so always wore bright clothes and made lots of noise.

Just to the north of Angouleme is a place called Champniers, there’s a couple of good bike shops and also a decathlon if you were to need parts or spares.

It’s true, i use a Mojito on the road and i really rate it.
I also use a Mojito off road when i’m on my gravel bike and still really rate it.
However when I’m on my MTB on or off road, i don’t wear a Mojito, as for this genre, i wouldn’t rate it…….

i’m currently using a see sense ICON for the rear and i have a Lezyne Micro 500 xl set to flash on the bars.
On my lid i run an Exposure Link which flashes front and rear.
The see sense isn’t a cheap light but it reacts to your environment through sensors and changes it’s flash pattern when you are approached by road users.
See sense are at the moment designing an new light front and back ( The Ace ) on kick starter, which they say will be cheaper, so might be worth checking that out.

Visited BPW last year whilst we stayed at Cwmcarn, had a great day up there, didn’t book any bike lifts for the visit, pedaled up the hills to get to the required trails.
As said above, it made us appreciate what was at the end of the climb more but next time would probably try and book and uplift possibly just so we can spend more time there.

    Hi,

I bought one of these before Christmas, got it from Bike.Discount.com for £96 including free delivery, only took 4 days to arrive via DPD.
price has gone up but still cheapest on line.

    https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/lezyne-gps-watch-micro-multisport-572348/wg_id-19158

Love the feel of the watch, use it for biking and hiking (walking the dog). At first i had trouble uploading to my phone as it would always ask me to re-connect via blue tooth and enter a pass code. I inquired to Lezyne why this was and they said they hadn’t tested it with Android Version 7.0 yet which my phone runs. This was happening very soon.It might have been something i was doing wrong possibly.
I bought it to replace a sometimes unpredictable Garmin 510 Edge.
it’s nice being able to wear as a watch and step tracker too.
if they can sort out my connection issue, which i think they will, i’ll have no complaints.

I was the other way, I sold all my vinyl record collection to fund my first “proper” mountain bike, now that is something I do regret doing. :(

Bought a Giant dropper after having 2 Reverb failures of exactly the same fault, lost it’s compression.
Being a fan of Giant products, i opted for the contact switch dropper instead and love it.
However i have had to strip it down once already as the cable seized after not using it for 2 weeks.
Also now when i use the switch to raise the seat back up i have to give it a second or so when the post reaches full stroke or it will drop if i sit on it straight away.
This i would imagine again is a cable lubrication issue.
Over Xmas it will need another strip down possibly.

Depending on your lid, we use those rubber wrist bands to hook over one end of the torch, through the skeleton of the helmet, back over the other end of the torch.
Not forgetting to use a bit of old inner tube as a sleeve to go over the torch so it doesn’t scratch your lid.
This also helps to prevent the torch from slipping about.

Works well for me, keeps the torch flat to the lid and no bracket required.

Just sent a replacement reverb back to CRC after only having it for 18 months.
My original post lasted the same amount of time before it was replaced under warranty due to lack of pressure. The 2nd one has suffered the same fate and after bleeding and recharging it to 250 PSI i decided not to faff around and send it back to CRC to see what can be done.
It may not be covered under warranty as although it was manufactured in summer of 2014 the warranty only covers the time form the original purchase date which was December 2012.
So as i write i am awaiting an outcome after investigation.
If they do replace it with a new post (which i doubt very much) i will be tempted to sell on and buy another brand of dropper.

I’ve had a Revolt for over a year now and think it’s a great commuter.
great if you like a little bit of road, gravel and trail all chucked into 1 on your daily ride.
great with mudguards too for the all year commute.
i’d leave the drops on it though.

PS, ditched the white bar tape for black and replaced the white saddle with a black charge spoon as both were getting grubby real quick.

I own a 2015 Defy Advanced 3, which has been my first “proper” road bike after years of only riding MTB.
Love the bike, nicely designed, i have found though that the disc brakes judder quite a bit so i have just ordered new pads and will tweek around with it for a bit and hopefully get that sorted.
I also use SPD’s on the Defy, as i ride and MTB, a Gravel and Road bike with the same set up.
My commute is only 12 miles each way so i use the Defy for this on dry days and never tend to do more than 30 miles if i’m out after work in the week or at the weekend so wouldn’t be able to comment on aching feet.
Haven’t noticed any internal cable knocking.
Bought mine from Giant Bromley, great service from those guys.

Went to Gran canaria last year and did a 1 day ride with the Free Motion guys.
really good day out and great value.
Was picked up from my hotel, driven to the shop and allocated a Cannondale rush 29er, back pack, helmet, water and ham roll.
jumped into a bus with loads of other riders and shipped up to the top of a mountain range where we descended down to the seafront (41km). throughout the day.
great terrain to ride in, really hot day though so a welcome beer stop on the beach was taken by all.
had a great day but bear in mind this is run by a German company so the tour guide up the mountains in the coach was only speaking in German and the majority of riders were also German. Not speaking the language wasn’t an issue for me as i was there for the ride and the guide kindly filled me in on what was being said after he’d said it in German.
To get away and do something you love in a foreign climate was a welcome change from just sitting by the pool frying. :-).
    Go for it.

I’ve just put a pair of Landcruisers on my Giant Revolt, use it mainly for commuting but do enjoy a long jaunt if in not on the MTB and try to combine road, gravel and dirt when we do the miles.
2 trips out so far and no complaints.
I went for the 700 x 35c but I do think they do a 40c for extra chunkiness.
A pair from Halfords cost £25 although other retail outlets are available…… :D

Try to get in about 40 miles a week at night time off road.
This month hoping to get a final 2 rides in up until Monday, which will give me about 170 miles, of which I’m happy with.

I wanted a pair of AM45’s and wasn’t sure of the sizing as they looked quite a wide shoe. I went to my local Evans Cycles, tried on a 44 and realised they were too tight so I tried a 45, perfect fit…..then went home and ordered them from CRC for a cheaper price… :D
