I too was diagnosed with prostate cancer in March 2021 aged 56, Gleeson 7. Very similar story to Philby, thereafter. My dear old Dad died of it 14 years ago so I opted for surgery which was done in May 2021 at The (Wonderful) Christie, Manchester. I consider myself to be extremely fortunate to get diagnosed (mri then template biopsy) and then to have the nasty walnut removed. Yes, side effects of no more stiffys but hey ho – I’m here! No incontinence either – but I did work hard at this, exercising etc…
I had no symptoms as such – just an achy left bollock. Cannot stress enough – if you’ve any doubts, at the very least, get a PSA test. You never know, it might just save your life!

Dont often post but had to – what a great thread this is! I’m 56 and been inspired by the the posts. Got a decent job but boy, is it getting harder… was planning on retiring at 60, to be “fairly comfortable. ” Realising money isn’t at all everything – life, family and friends certainly are. This has kicked me to do something. I’ve sent off for statements and planning to see a financial advisor. Cheers,

Zippy and timbur – I’m right with you, too, fellas. Can’t stand ’em. Same issue here – 4 raised beds trying to grow fresh veggies – only for them to attract what seems like all the local cats to “Their” own private latrine. I have given up growing stuff now as its too much of a risk…
I have a dog and she hates ’em too but they are sneeky feckers & I (nor the dog) can’t seem to catch them in the “act.”
Similar issues with my bird table too – I have had to make that area as cat proof as possible…
    SCUM. I hate them.

Been going in the Scythe myself since early ’80s…. Gutted.

Anyway, that pub just can’t stay shut. Its a Jewel….
My sister worked there for years too – when “Strawberry Nose” ran the bar… What an utter **** he was! I saw him bar some young chap on the spot once for asking:

“Can I have a pint of cider please?
Strawberry Nose says – “what cider?”
    Young lad – “Er, er….”
    Strawberry Nose – “Come on!”
Young Lad – “Er, Orange Cider.”
Strawberry Nose – “ORANGE CIDER?!!!! ORANGE CIDER!!!!!!! WHATS ORANGE CIDER!!!!!! GET OUT! YOUR BARRED!”

    And that was that!

11.5 miles each way with a few hills, (Bolton to Heywood) twice a week on my Badboy. Its got to be panniers too – just got some cheapo Lidl ones and they work fine for me. Bike has marathon tyres with slime tubes, a big lock, comfy grips, spds, plenty lights, reflective spoke covers Plus got one of them air-horn things too for when needed! It weighs a ton But I Love it coz it keeps my fitness on the good side and saves me money! When I get to work, just have a change of clothes ready and wipe down with wet-wipes, then redo the old deoderant. Start work fully refreshed!
    You Go for it!
