Yup. This is such a damned big place that you end up finding your local / regional resources and existing a lot within them. I use MTBR a bit, but mostly for Clyde-related info and occasional reviews of stuff.
You can’t give STW up. The British idea of camaraderie (abuse, name-calling etc) doesn’t exist in mainstream USA.

P&P costs. It isn’t free. You pay for it somewhere.

I bought one earlier this year after holding out for an age. Since then I’ve pondered it against all of the other advancements I’ve seen since riding my 1st mountain bike (rigid Rockhopper with the U brake under the rear stays).
I would give up any other part of my bike other than hydraulic brakes rather than lose the dropper post. I’d rather ride rigid single speed than get rid of the dropper.
I’m not enduro, I’m not a downhiller. I ride along with up and down in there. I’m getting far more out of my rides and my bike now that it’s got two settings – seat up pedal machine and seat down move-it-around machine. I can drop the seat for the fun whoopy section, then whack it back up so I can pedal up that steep bit at the end.
It’s a Reverb and I’m saving up for another to put on my HT bike as well.

Did you never see the video for that song? Fantastic.

This has been expected by electronic security experts for some time and businesses have been warned. Having nice standards like SCADA are a very good thing indeed. Putting the controls for such things in non-private places is a very bad thing indeed.

Can’t think of a single thing going for it.

    It isn’t Peterborough.

Although Hull is on a par with Peterborough.

    My vote goes for Manchester,

    Not even close.

    Peterborough. Awful, awful place.

It won’t be long before you take the next step up that ladder. Krups was the shortest-lived piece of coffee-making equipment I’ve ever owned. I’ve had filter papers that lasted longer!

Vultures have been the bird that has most freaked me out since moving to the USA.
On my first road ride from our new house I turned a corner and there were TWO MASSIVE VULTURES next to the kerb, tearing their way into some unidentified roadkill. I spent the rest of the ride being more defensive and careful than ever, not wishing to end up falling off and seeing vultures heading my way :(

I would recommend guided riding out there. You’ll get so much more from a local who really knows the trails. There are a load of new trails being built out there and they do stand up to the ‘classics’.

I can’t recommend Magpie enough. Mike has been out there riding for 25 years and is now an IMBA Level 3 coach. He is the nicest guy and loves showing people the best that Moab has. I do plan to get out there and do one of their multi-day trips to see the real wild country.

The difference between an 8th of a tank and empty is fairly fundamental but there is no way of knowing with one of these VAG cars

I’d bet a pound to a shiny penny that there is a little dashboard light that will appear with an accompanying ‘DING’ to tell you when a certain volume / range is reached.

There is nothing wrong with a digital fuel gauge.

Some random website reference that can’t even make up it’s own mind? You may as well give me a Wiki reference!

    Debrett’s. British. Correct.

wing collar used to be black tie too

    Never, ever.

what is ‘proper’ and what is acceptable both evolve.

    Nope.

Get yourself a copy of Debrett’s from any era and you’ll see wing collar is for white tie only. It always has been. I suppose you think it’s OK to wear your honours and awards anywhere you so desire!

I prefer a wing collar but

No buts. Your advice has just been negated by this quite unacceptable personal crossing of a line.

Wing collar has always been white tie and gits only.

Depends on the functions and you really. If they are high social then it might be frowned upon, but most people are accepting that not everyone has eveningwear.

Why a waistcoat? Never worn one myself. For the love of all things please wear a ‘normal’ collar. Wing collars are for white tie and gits.

For male eveningwear, the question should always be ‘What would James Bond wear’? Black, proper collar.

Shoes need to be black and well polished. Crap shoes will always drag a man down.

    Logitech Ultimate Ears Mini Boom.

I did the research, this came out very well rated and I’ve been very impressed. I’d recommend it to anyone for a portable Bluetooth speaker.

Nearly forgot. It also works VERY well as a speakerphone when you pair it with your mobile.

    Me either.

Not obsessed at all. Just more normal to ride a bike.

It speaks volumes about UK culture that the equivalent picture here is:

Well no it isn’t. That appears to be a port waiting area or something else that isn’t a city centre parking facility, so it isn’t the equivalent picture.

I recently read in two seperate british newspapers, that “the average/most frequent car journey in the UK, is less than 1 mile, and involves carrying children”.

Average UK car journey is about 7 miles. 22% of all car journeys are less than a mile.

I spent an age on my commuter swapping between panniers and a rucsack and ended up with the weight on my back. I just noticed it less there – probably because it is a lower percentage of my body weight than it is of the bike. I sweat like a paratrooper in a spelling test anyway so having the bag on makes no difference on that front.

Listen to what the coaches have told you….

Different coaches have different views on this.

‘Level with the ground’ is another way of looking with it for the level pedals side of things. As the bike goes over the inside foot would raise and the outside foot lower to keep your feet level with the ground.

It depends on how well you know the subject and whether you intend to talk at the audience and kill them with boredom or invite some level of participation as you go. Also, if you are script-bound for the entire presentation you will destroy their will to live.

Don’t get any qualifications then move to a country where they are not recognized. $500 to get an IMBA qualification now I live in the USA (plus insurance etc) when I’d had a Brit tick for years.

It’s going nowhere for at least a year

I’d not leave it longer than 6 months.

I’ve tried cheap and I could tell it wasn’t great

You’re not leaving it long enough. If you can tell the differences between gins there isn’t enough sloe flavour!

I live in Virginia and open carry is legal here, be it pistol or long barrel. You don’t even register a gun here and a concealed carry permit takes a day of training. I don’t see much of it.
Wise men have told me that if you carry it and you intend to pull it, you don’t shoot to maim. That stuff doesn’t work. So you’re planning to kill. So you’d better be damned sure of the situation. Something most of those carrying haven’t really thought through before the impending court case they will feature in.

Freeze them flat on a tray and bag them up. You can then take them out and make the sloe gin at your leisure. I’ve tried lots of different methods and pricking them is soul-destroying. I just let them defrost a bit, bash them with a potato masher or something and sling them in the bottle with half a wine goblet of sugar to start them off. Shake every day until the sugar has dissolved.
Use the cheapest gin you can find. Waitrose was the cheapest for a couple of years – even lower than Aldi & Lidl.

If anyone lives near the Emersons Green area of Bristol I can tell you where there will still be sloes on the bushes!

Now, I can open this, but Mrs North has no chance.

Do you WANT her in the garage? Don’t tell me it isn’t full of MAN stuff and there is room to park cars in there!

Not planning for your own future is either daft, ignorant or arrogant. You know that you will some day stop working. You know how much you earn to keep you to the lifestyle you are currently leading. You know that money someone gives you will stop.
    What then?
Are you currently being paid the same as the state pension? Then you might just about break even. If your current pay is more than the state pension, what provision have you made to make up that shortfall?
    Nothing?
    Oh well.

Are there others in the building who would also benefit from this? Get together with them and see about making a case to management that it would be a good thing and used by lots of people / good PR / green transport etc. Also, have a word with building maintenance / management and ask them what the art of the possible would be. Get the people who might help on board before you try and solve it for yourself.

Is the bench secured to the wall in some way? It’s quite tall compared to depth. Mine is like that but designed it that way (max floor space) and have fastened it to the wall.

It is great to build your own bench.

We decided to wait until the 4k thing settles down. We don’t watch that much TV but wanted better than the cheap LED we had.
Bought one of the last Samsung plasma screens. They will honour the warranty despite not making them any more. The screen is as good as a top end LED but less than half the price. We’re about 10ft from the screen so we can’t see the pixels at 720p. It’ll last a couple of years easily and that should be time to see if 4k takes off.

The USA is seeing a real boom in cider.

Unfortunately they REALLY like to mess about with it. The mainstream brands nearly all have additives and even flavouring in them.

The niche ones do strange things too. A local cidery HOPPED some of their cider. EEK!
