I think GPS owners who don't use a map and compass should be tasered for being lazy navigators.

Thats just as stupid a comment as most of the haters in this thread. There are some mighty tall bikes ridden around here just so people can peer down their noses at 'lesser mortals'.

but having Ian yell abuse at me whenever I screwed it up soon got me correcting it.

Thats the cure right there. People of Edinburgh! You ARE to shout abuse at TJ until he can corner better. :D

I've got something like a 120mm stem to keep some weight over the front. Just put anything on there and ride it, then work out what you need.

longest lasting pedals I have are Wellgo – still great after regular then occasional use over 11 years.

You mean there isn't a concierge service for P members? What sort of service is that?

So we're all agreed it's a parental skill compensator?

Is there anythign you lot don't get wound up about

Just technology giving another answer to a problem faced. I see no issue with it at all. Perhaps it adds to the parental arsenal rather than being lazy etc. A bit like a map and compass being quite excellent but using a GPS instead?

I know far more mountain bikers who should have a frikkin alarm sound the minute they leave the end of their street!

    Curtis by Curtis Mayfield

His first solo album – and it has an 8 minute version of Move On Up on there – worth buying for that alone.

If you are close, take it to the Bristol Bike Jumble on the 1st Saturday of the month and get it sold.

Dead good – ridden mine for 3 years (with a Reba fork) and it has been great – light, responsive, compliant but strong.

I blame Chipps. STW have divided the posters into the Haves and Have Nots and seem to think a 'P' is aspirational or something worthy to the Have Nots. Why people need to know who has a subscription etc is beyond me.

    Chipps is Son of Thatcher.

No – they got to be the biggest independent bike shop in the UK because nobody shops with them

Whatever your arms and shoulders feel comfortable with. Don't try to work out how it rides before you've ridden it.

Having them chopped will make no difference to the behaviour

Oh yes it does. Quite a lot. However, this does not detract from proper training and control of the dogs. It does help with the desired effect.

Ventana do a big bike. I have a XXL Turner Sultan which is great for me and I'm 2" shorter than you.

If you are down Bristol way at all you'd be welcome to try it for size. Zinncycles.com in the USA REALLY understands tall people.

The F1 cars use re-generative braking and then use the stored energy to propel the car forwards. Slightly different with skis…

Still KERS tho. The commentators aren't going to say 'a bit like they use in some tram and train systems' are they? F1 is the most glam application so far, so they will refer to it.

You think with the winter olympics coming up that companies are not throwing everything at the slopes?

    TooTall

Best-known for its use in Formula 1, KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) is heading for the slopes as Head incorporate it as a performance-enhancer into their skis next season.

So how does it work? Piezoelectric fibres positioned behind the binding transform mechanical impulses into electrical energy, which is stored in a microchip. The chip releases this stored energy to the ski right when it’s needed, controlled by a special sensor which is pre-programmed according to the particular flex patterns of the ski model.

Influenced by the length of the ski, weight of the skier and speed of travel, a ski is in maximum flex towards the end of the turn. In the area where the ski flexes the most, the microchip sensor is activated, releasing the energy to the piezoelectric fibres. This in turn stiffens the tail, leading to a rebound that gives maximum acceleration at the end of the turn, accelerating the racer from one turn to the next.

Read any review of any product in the world (except in Germany) – they are all subjective and full of bull. It is the wy of the world. Why should bikes be any different?

Probably not good to do the fire thing any more. Especially if you get it as dry as you want it to be.

Don't use them then. If you are fretting that much about proven technology, then use something else. I'd not want you lying awake all night all concerned.

mine has gears, full suspension and a frame too big for anyone else. Thats pretty niche for 29ers around here.

My wife had one in the USA – she loved it, but I thought it was average. Drives like a car, handles like a high car, interior is lower than European standards, seats are barely OK, is fair in the snow with 4WD, not a lot of driver room for a tall person, good rear leg room, steering wheel tilt adjust only. Space is OK and what there is can be used.

We compared prices – pretty much $ for £, so you get more in the USA.

I think having a 'do it all' bike that you change the wheels depending on what of the all you are doing is a bit strange. You can build up some pretty light but strong wheels these days.

    Throw everything away.
    Start again.
    Except kettle & brew kit.

If you don't do that, you WILL have boxes of utter rubbish that you will never open, but move every time.

This is just scientific fact. I am living with this right now.

threads have often moved on while i tap away slowly with one finger

I believe the forum pros have secretaries they dictate their diatribe too.

That would assume the 'forum pros' don't spend solitary lives in dingy bedsits where they vent their frustrations with the world upon us through the medium of STW.
Compared to the more prolific attention-mongers on here, we're all lurkers.

I love threads like this. The small, malnourished labrats who actually fit into Italian-made cycling clothing get all angry and clench their bony little fists. I can hear their squeaky little voices as they rise up (not very far) against the system that is so unfair where 'they subsidise fatties for travel'. Their high metabolisms must be burning the few calories they consume at such a high rate, driven by a desire for retribution.
Keep up the good work – your whining amuses me every time. :D

Be honest, be sincere, think what it really is about them that you like. Don't bother with the trite tales and tired jokes – this is their day and think what you can do to make it a bit more special. Use good jokes! I said that I was flattered to be part of their day and that they trusted me to do that best man stuff. Some say the best man derives from ancient customs of marriage by kidnapping, or from defending the bride from would-be kidnappers. If you can't get some mileage from that then you need slapping!

Baby Jogger do the proper running push chairs – up to 20" wheels. Not recommended for the very young (shaking and all that). As above – not cheap.
