Why not get in touch with Jamie and see what he has to say?

Apart from the basics of exercise and rules the rest is garbage.

No it isn't. Have seen used and have used a couple of his techniques myself to superb effect. Different dogs need different things – same as people.

It will all pale into insignificance next to the screaming bundle of joy that the birth will bring. If she doesn't know you love her and you don't feel closer at that moment than at any time before, then a trinket is never going to make anything different anyway.

anagallis – who said the dog was scared? It was howling, which doesn't link straight to scared. I agree with your puppy being a different case, but I disagree with your outright dismissal of Millan's methods. No matter how they are packaged, some of what he does works very well.

When you say 'not satisfied' with contacts, what do you mean? As a long-term speccy type who has worn contacts in the worst conditions possible, I am curious as to your reasons.

If you are older than 10 years old, you should be taught to be responsible for your own actions. If you are less than 10 years old, mummy and daddy need to suspend your Ebay account before you get into any more trouble.

There is no fixed time period for which cycles and cyclists’ safety equipment must be loaned under a Cycle to Work scheme. Similarly, there is no fixed time period for which a salary sacrifice scheme must run where one is used to offset the cost of loaning the cycle and cyclists’ safety equipment.

Why not go for 2 years then? A bike should be expected to last that long so the contribution could be less. A year isn't mandatory – that's your company making that limit.

I am concerned about the erosion of this scheme – so we have to try every way to make it work regardless.

hora – your concise analysis of the situation on the ground out there and the risks to possible contractors is most enlightening. You are not the sort of chap to undertake such employment – others are.

I can personally recommend the Hotel Cacciani in Frascati – a 30 min train ride out of Rome. You can see Rome from the balcony (the '40s' rooms are the best) and it is a beautiful small town on a hillside – lovely to wander around:

Elfinsafety – you appear to have no understanding of the Armed Forces as a whole, the people who serve, their motivation, the relationship of the UK defence industry (which exists, employs thousands and brings billions to the economy whether you personally like it or not) with the UK as a whole and the importance of inherited values and traditions.
As usual, you see the cost of everything and the value of nothing. As with any large organization, if you look at something as big as the Navy, Army and Air Force and view each penny packet in isolation without knowledge of capability, relationship to other elements or origins, things are simple. Take several steps back, see it in context and suddenly things become much clearer – more complex but clearer.

Are we talking about the contact patch on a perfectly flat conveyor belt (where theory reigns supreme), or are we talking about out in the real world, where the world is rarely perfectly flat?

You could get rid of a few hundred horses for the Cavalry and save the money that way. At least the Hawk aircraft has a role in training and could be used in anger. Horses not really cutting it this century.

Hora – it does hurt long term if you concentrate solely on what is under your nose. The Forces are in severe danger of getting over-focused on a long term land-based counter-insurgency – something we don't want to get into in the future. The old adage of being able to 'fight A war rather than THE war' holds true now more than ever.

If all you know of it is 'they do swooshy flying and colours and stuff and it costs £Xm' then you might see it that way. If you see it in context and look at all the other facets, then you might see it another way.

Given the role the RA play in UK PLC as ambassadors, goodwill, shopfront for UK defence industry, PR, recruiting, tourism support etc then it is very different. If you can see beyond the headlines and do your own 'so what' analysis things are more complex. I am always dismayed when supposedly intelligent people read headlines and then not think even one step further.

Wickes cheapest white worktop is £25 for a 2m length. Screw a couple of bits of timber lengthways to stiffen it. Stand that on a couple of cheap adjustable metal supports/sawhorses that you can raise/lower to fit you best. Mine is solid and has loads of useable storage space underneath.

TJ – you are being contrary as usual.

'Normal' implies a certain regionality. 'Normal' is what happens 'round here' and 'round here' isn't a flat country that has a largely cycle-sensitive or specific infrastructure. Culture plays a part in all of this as well as the physiical limitations of the human body.

OP – get a bike trailer and, if you REALLY MUST drag the bairn around at such an early age, put them in their car seat secured into the trailer. Given they won't remember a damn thing, I hope your personal urges are sated by this activity. Personally, I've been waiting and TT Jr had her first trailer ride secured this way at 6 months.

The mentalness goes up and down throughout the pregnancy. She will be more nuts than you have ever experienced – and then some. Once the baby arrives, her baby brain gets worse for a bit as the hormones are still rushing around.

Then you have the baby and that will beat the lunacy of the wife no matter what she does – in a good way. Be the consistent bloke you are being – it isn't her speaking – IT IS THE MONSTER INSIDE HER!!!

No compressor required. Having has the tube in overnight should work. I then hang the wheel up, deflate and remove the tube, re-seat 2/3 of the bead and put the goop in the bottom of the tyre. Remove and inflate to max pressure, slosh goop about, sorted.

it was just odd to get a lecture from an old hippy telling us to behave.

I like that – I might just have to cultivate that persona – which might be hard to do. You said it might be nice to record the moment – I said that was ruining gigs. Do you go to gigs with the intention of hearing and seeing an act live, or are you there with the intent of capturing a few piccies / video minutes instead?

GO SURFING – you go to Afan to ride bikes, the Alps in winter to ski/snowboard and Newquay to surf!

Why else would you go there? Other than to join the lagered-up crowds slobbering around Newquay of an evening.

when you're right at the front of a gig watching a beautiful singer that gigs once in a blue moon, it would be nice to record the moment.

No – no it wouldn't. Live music is live music and is only belittled and squashed by ignorant muppets who spend half the gig with their stupid phones held above their head taking pictures and recording video to e-mail before they leave the gig to prove they were there. Portable recording media has ruined live gigs and the general belief that just because someone can record things they have to record things justifies their behaviour.

I have no pictures or recordings of the gigs I worked or attended. It doesn't change my memory and, for example, trying to compress Nirvana playing Teen Spirit live into an iphone would be trite and miss the point of a live gig.

Find a decent LBS that has demo saddles and ride a few of them. Make a decision on what fits you. Or just get the Spec BG saddle for £20.

Hope seem to be replacing the split hubs FOC and no questions.

companies tend to do that when there are intrinsic failures in products. For all the Shimano-bashing, I've never seen a thread on here showing their hubs splitting.
