He didn't if he'd blacked out he'd not of been able to tell us how long it went on for.

Thanks for that helpful remark. I really hope I never have need of a sarcastic medic in the near future. I take it you'd tell a patient with such symptoms to drive home and MTFU or something? 🙄

Crack on then Phil – denial can lead to some interesting situations. Not that I'm saying that such a blackout could be indicative of something else – like a former colleague who was 'always tired' and had a toe amputated due to his ignored diabetes.

considered getting checked out, but the sensations and prgression from eyes blacking out etc was almost exactly the same as when i blacked out as a kid (again due to not eating and lots of exercise).. lesson learnt, remember to fuel up first and fall in a slightly more inconvenient place haha

Excellent diagnosis there Dr Phil. 🙄

FFS – go get yourself checked out! 'Bonking' is one thing – blacking out for 15 minutes is most certainly something far worse!

You're not getting the hint about travel across the Bristol area. There are over 40,000 people employed by just 7 companies around that stretch of the ring road. There are far more than that, but I know about the 40,000 with the big 7 employers in this area. Bristol had (has?) some of the worst congestion outside London – the northern area of the ring road combined with the stretches of the M4/M5 either side of their intersection probably the worst of all – with Filton in the middle. Clifton is only just lower than Leigh Woods for affordability. It would be, however, within cycle commute distance – about a 30 min ride.
I would not be making a planned move to a job in N Bristol and planning to commute by car. I've been working just down the road from Filton for a year so I've seen a complete cycle now.

Would a move to 2 years instead of 1 year bring much to the user? Further depreciation whilst using the bike – 20% or could it be more?

I've just had a look at the link and it makes sense to go out to 18 months / 2 years for the return – the table makes sense to me.

We got a Little Life Cross Country from E-Bay – great condition for about £30. I can recommend it – sturdy, loads of adjustment, easy to carry and the little one loves it.

I'd suggest trying to tie in with the local council's cycling policy / ride to work / green transport schemes. That might give you an angle. Also – check details on street trading with them – they probably license those as well.

Peterborough – not a place I'd think about really. Hard to expand from if it hasn't got enough business to support you. You'd really need secure premises for your van as you would be a really obvious target for thieves.

I had mine done, what, couple of month's ago now, after much deliberation and a thread on here.

Oh well that's fine then – you've shown gravitas and given due deference to the thought process. 🙄

I'm 32. You can call me a chav if you want, but as I own my own morning suit and read New Statesman you may be stretching a point just a little.

I've seen plenty grasping wannabe middle class with tattoos, so owning a certain item of clothing has nothing to do with anything. Do you drive a BMW as well? That is more of a mark than ink.

Firstly it's a 20mm front hub, a Rocky Mountain Carbon to be precise.

Precise about what? Is the hub a Rocky Mountain Carbon cos there isn't a bike just called a Carbon in their range.

Do you have the replacement bearings to go in?

filton can be quick dep on traffic.

Can be dead stop too. Getting close enough to cycle makes far more sense than driving the M4/M5.

Bristol is great. Don't knock it until you've given it a chance. Just rent somewhere cheap within a few miles of Filton and explore for yourself.

    That's nice of them.

Now the Armed Forces, already overstretched and very often paid less than firemen will have to step in to provide cover and put themselves at enhanced risk by using clapped out kit because they're not trained to use the lovely shiny Fire Service gear.

I can't believe striking isn't illegal for the emergency services, it should be.

Corrected for accuracy. It was a Joint effort – not just the Army – when the idle, change-resistant inefficient firemen last went out, put lives at risk and had to be covered by more capable people who got on with the job in hand with surprisingly effective results.
The police aren't allowed to strike – how the back-sliding firemen get away with it is beyond me.

Prob do need to get him walking to heel first as at the moment we just let him off and play so he really gets to do his own thing, other than getting him to wait when we see cyclists/runners etc.

You need to get that dog properly trained. Something that size with the reputation the breed has will get you in trouble if not properly controlled. Once he is trained, the running thing is just an extension of that and won't be a problem. Invest the time now – and get his knackers cut off ASAP!

Willard – measure your sleeve length from the middle of your shoulders to the cuff. Most shirt makers will go up to 36" sleeves but Lewins do 38" OTP – which I need. If you are 36" or shorter sleeved, you have a massive choice.

I was there once – was 6'4" and 12.5 stone age 16 – filled out a bit since then!

For suits, get to somewhere like Suits You or another of the big places. He will probably be fine for suits as he isn't 'that' tall – the German brands have a habit of being longer or even Racing Green if they are still about in cheap places. I am a bespoke man now, but I've stopped growing (up).

Lewins have the widest range of fits and he might be lucky enough to get into their slim fit and get the sleeves long enough. As I said, a relationship with a good alterations business will ensure he gets adjustments to fit him. Oh – get the shirt (and shoes) before you take him for the suit and ensure he wears them – and suits that are tight are not fitting properly.

Forget normal retailers and forget getting anything off the peg to fit. If he is that tall and slim, he isn't catered for (give us height and collar size for steerage).
I can only get shirts with a long enough sleeve OTP from Lewins. Nobody else does a 38" sleeve without going custom. Get their shirts and get them taken in by a local alterations specialist. The M&S custom shirt option only works if you are 'average' or fairly average.

I'm 6'7" with an 18" collar, 48" chest and 38" sleeves and all shirts in that collar size are wide on me – so a slim tall chap needs full bespoke or altered.

Aero Press – buy an Aero Press. Best one-cup-at-a-time solution by far. Cheap, robust, easy to use. We have most methods of coffee-making and this is the best for solo / travel use.

Where are you going to uni? Lots of places have local roasters – Bristol has Twoday Coffee for example – coffee roasted every 48hrs and they will grind it to your requirement.

    So what are your experiences?

men that have Dachshunds let their wife / kids decide what sort of dog to have.
men that walk Dachshunds wish they had a different dog.

    Sorry – that didn't help.

Put the dogs together when supervised to decide what to do when unsupervised. If you perpetuate with each having their own fenced off territory, you increase the chances of them being territorial. You want them to share the space, not reinforce each having their own.

there is also some feeling that the bill should just be paid. If you are presented with a bill though, and you don't feel as though you had value for money, do you pay it and learn that lesson, or contest it?

She burned up £2k using a service that you contracted for at a cost that is clearly laid down on the company website. FFS – it hasn't got anything to do with VFM – they provided the contracted services at a pre-determined rate. Accept responsibility for the actions of your daughter – and your own if we're at it. You could have (should have?) prevented this very easily, yet you appear to be trying to weasel out of it after the fact. You gave a 19 year old girl an unrestricted method of communication without limits – would you give her a debit / credit card linked to your account with the same freedoms?

Funny how many people jump to the conclusion that my daughter is a spoilt princess, and her parents are soft and lack parenting skills. If you knew her or us you probably (hopefully) wouldn't jump to that conclusion.

All evidence thus far points to that. FFS – a mobile phone roaming in Africa?!? There has been enough publicity over the years over roaming costs in Europe never mind Africa!

    Orange Roaming Charges SA
Just so you know – that page was a couple of clicks away from 'orange roaming charges' on a Google search. Not difficult to find at all – not hidden.

The Jamie Oliver experience has even reached mobile catering – there was a 'Jamie Oliver's Fabulous Feasts' tent thingy at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta this weekend – it was a catering tent with some kitsch tat at the doorway and an air of authentic mock-authenticity about the whole thing. Have a business empire but please stop before kicking the backside out of it.

Will be OK once its is bedded in but tubeless will help to bed it in and also determine where the energy is in the trail.

Cynic-al to the thread please! Complete rubbish alert!
