al – I’m not touching him. He appears to be some sort of common guttersnipe and beneath us both. Perhaps we could pay another manual labourer to rough him up a little?

    Ah

The ‘other’ tactic. Run away with the ball claiming you won anyway. Just as valid as the other tactic of ‘last man standing’ eh Fred?

And what ‘type’ is that, pray tell? Have you ever met me? I find it interesting and amusing that you seem to think you can categorise me into a ‘type’. You have no idea who I am, mate. No idea. So, don’t be so quick to judge, eh?

There we are, folks. Right there. Thanks, Fred – you really can’t help yourself and you really can’t see it. If you had a grasp of the English language, you’d understand the phrase ‘revert to type’:

if someone reverts to type, they return to their usual behaviour after a period of behaving in a different, usually better, way.

After several weeks without saying a rude word to anyone, he seems to have reverted to type.

Crack on. The ability to effectively communicate is going to grow in importance as more and more people are unable to do just that. Seeing the school and college-leavers enter the workplace is shocking. They are often used to communicating (other than in assessed work for college) in txt spk and slang and are stunned when their colleagues expect sentences and basic grammar. Seeing them suddenly outside their peer group and trying to match adult expectations is something to behold. Slang and regional variation can be healthy – when they obscure meaning and hinder understanding they become dangerous.

elf – you claim to be well versed in fitting in and adapting your language to suit. However, you always revert to type on here and can’t help yourself. You are only kidding yourself.

Stans Flow rims here and they are great so far. Bolt thru front is the best – QR isn’t really an option having ridden both. I’d not want to ride a 24 hole 29er wheel hard over anything.

Run tubeless tyres thus bringing the advantages of a slime tube without the tube. Clever eh? Making your 29er wheel heavier at that point is not a good idea.

How would you be using the output? A bespoke charge for yourself or one of the ‘standard’ packages to buy into? The technology isn’t great with the best PV panels only at about 37% efficiency at the moment. Have you looked at the water heating aspect? Depends how far from your house it is and how long you are going to be there I guess. I personally want my own micro hydro in the future, but I’ll need the new house and a watercourse for that!

If we had a local club/trail building I would be more than happy to help out with trail building and maintenance etc, but we dont, so I cant

As above – if the up and over is the only access, then either replace with roller shutter or strengthen the door and put a garage defender on it – and get an alarm linking to your house – the wireless stuff is getting much better. If you don't use the garage for a car, how about putting something else inside the door to restrict access / egress? Is it not possible to park your car right up against the garage door overnight as well?

Arm warmers – makes any top long-sleeved regardless of how big you are

I justified the Turner Sultan in Sasquatch size because it is the biggest off-the-peg mountain bike frame I could get. The X9 drivechain, CK hubs and Fox forks would be a bit OTT if they didn't go soooooooooo well with the frame!

Go Outdoors stuff relies very heavily on processed fat for it's calorific value

The military rat packs aren't exactly full of organic tofu and fairtrade cocoa either.

but the centres do keep other trails quieter and I am grateful for that.

I don't think they do. I think they reduce the number of 30-somethings damaging themselves on the local jump spots tho!

just to recommend bulkpowders.co.uk as a whey protein source. Their flavouring drops are pretty good as well and prices often cheaper than myprotein. They do great carbs as well, so you can make a good 3:1 protein/carb drink.

Shoes with rubber soles make you look like a chemistry teacher an IT support technician.

Corrected – hence why so many of the stw collective are baffled by someone wanting to dress well. Given the advances in technology, they all wear drip dry fabrics and polycotton is a step too far towards nature.

Walk around outside in the damp and make sure you walk on fine gravel / coarse tarmac. It will take the sheen off the soles and you'll be reet. Got to be wet underfoot for it to work properly.

I doubt it was anyone who recognised Hora. I doubt anyone could resist the temptation to push a stick into his spokes rather than just call him a name.

I reckon he's acting the way he is because he thinks nobody will stand up to him. I will though.

Just so you know – walking isn't standing up to him. Talking would be, but you seem to want to avoid communication as much as he does.

You need to manage your boss. If you have differing views on things, then you need to tell him your views. You obviously have different understandings of things and the onus is on you if you don't agree.

Write down things you want / need to stay there. Try not to make it a 'list of demands' but you need to get him to understand your side. If he can't / won't, then things are different. Lack of communication at the moment.

As part of the Bristol Cycle Festival, this film is being shown at Mangotsfield Station tonight at 8:45. Get on your bike and ride out on the Bath-Bristol Cycleway and enjoy the film and other shenannigans there tonight.

As mentioned, the occurrences of cutting through frames to nick bikes makes locking them up secondary to securing the building they are in and preventing access in the first place.

It seems putting bikes in the same building as a 'hora' also renders them thiefproof.

    TooTall

If only we were all as smart as you eh hora?

If a thief wants to steal a car, the 'street' is probably best. Do you keep your car in the spare bedroom? If someone wants something bad enough, they will take it, regardless of where it is. Not everyone is as lucky/perfect/clever as you and doesn't have the space or sees no problem in having bikes out of the way.

What, one where everyone is treated equally?

They are, providing they comply with the same minimum levels of behaviour. Kind of like a microcosm of society if you will. Some people can get along yet some seem to make it their mission to rub up others the wrong way.

warton – commenting that your view on the houses was fine – but you've not mentioned the absence of good drinking dens in Whitley Bay. My brother lives in one of those Victorian terraced houses – I know they are nice – but he travels for a pint.

    whitely bay

Grew up there and my mum and sister still live there. Great beach, nice houses, dodgy nightlife but there are some good pubs

You are joking, right? Beach is a bit rubbish (no surf to speak of, almost no beach at high tide), houses OK and good pubs? Perhaps 1 or 2 between Monkseaton and Cullercoats!

Get a bigger bike so you have more bike / less of a single tube to absorb the forces.

Loathe to say it, but North Shields is getting better. You're a quick walk from the coast and I'd say Tynemouth if it were any cheaper to live there! I really miss bits of growing up there – the beach, 20 min on the Metro to Newcastle, the fish quay, Tynemouth for the food and drink. South Gosforth is pretty nice for being closer to Newcastle. The Tyne Valley villages are great. What else do you want? Night life? Pubs? Rent or buy?
